- There's only 6 days until im leaving Cairns what Ill be doing is I'm going to pickup my caravan and a roof topper tinny in the Sunshine Coast to keep filming this content for you guys!
The first stop will be Victoria, back where it all started, although then were straight back to Queensland. There's only one video left to land a barramundi before I leave.

For catching barra, having a big sinker and more line before the hook for the live bait to move is good for live baiting as barra dont really care about sinker size and i'd go between 4/0 and 6/0 circle hooks for live baiting. I'd also try live prawns, catching them off the Esplanade beaches. ay, you getting better good luck on the big trip 😁😁

Luke mate, we don't want you to leave either buddy. Absolutely spectacular video and it is sad, but it is ok to acknowledge that. You darn made me shed a bloody tear only 3 minutes into the video . Hey Luke try hooking live bait through the lip , less chance of being pulled off . Another thing to factor in with the boat on the caravan roof your going to be restricted with solar , you want more panels to be over rated for battery storage
I love your stuff so much do you plan on going back to Victoria I would love to see what you can catch at the places I fish
With drag make sure it’s somewhat tight before hooking the fish so u can set the hook

Hey man I catch a lot a Barra down south and we usually use 80lb or 100lb leader and you want to have a lot tighter drag to keep the line tight and it also to help set the hooks

Hey brother over here in the NT we find the Barra to be feeding the best on the out going tide, typically the last couple hours of the out going tide. And when it’s a bit cooler like now, fishing the river mouths close to the mangroves should produce the big girls. Good luck on ur new adventure and love watchin ya eps. 🍻

Luke when using circle hooks always have about 3-6kg of drag set that way the hook goes through there mouth

Safe travels mate.
You can use light drag.Especially with a small live bait. But better to use straighter hook like KS. Its just like straylining let it run and chew on it for a few seconds longer that way the hook is more likely in its mouth when you tighten up and lift the rod tip. Obviously Baitrunner typ reels make this easier. Both different, both effective. 🐟

And when you’re using your cast net slowly pull it in so the bottom closes

We catch snook here in Florida (very similar to Barramundi) with pilchards on a 2/0 to 3/0 circle hook. We hook the baits through the cartilage on their nostrils or underneath toward the tail instead of middle of their back. Maybe fish on the bottom like that guy was saying try out a carolina rig
There’s a little hut out the mouth there casted this squidjies lure and seen a fish chasing it then a 61cm barra came and smashed it. My pb barra for that period of time I was stoked. If u ever go to Townsville there are so many

Lose drag is always better as you can adjust when required, just have a bit of resistance there

Not sure if its been mentioned about your drag on reel maybe a bait runner reel could be an idea
Just so you know. If you anker up and need to be a little to the left or right, turn your engine left or right and it will move you over if the tide is moving
Deeral is a very good place to fish the problem is that it rains a lot and because of all of the fresh water sometimes they don’t wanna bite
Try fish the other side of where u are my mate hooked a 98 cm barra and there are plenty of them hanging around there

I would have the drag set a little bit tighter just so ya can set the hook faster with suicide hook but that's just what I do there heaps of different ways that catch fish just got to find what's best for you I guess

Having a good rod set-up just for bait that's a bit more flexible than your combos can help to brother so the rod bends a bit more and sets the hook I had the same combos as you than go 2 new rods that more flexible in the rod tip for live bait and has help me here in bundy with getting a better hook up rate
With ur drag have it very loose, pretty much free spooling so u know as soon as a fish takes it or bites it.

When U hook a Barra keep your rod down towards the water or the will jump out and spit the hook 👍

I think the reason that fush came off at the hook is because you take to long to reel it in maybe try and not get distracted
I seen a big croc at the mouth of that river at Russell Heads and he was easy 3m. He didn’t care we were there he just kept doing what crocs do. Watch yourself
