In 1985 when I was 16, I travelled from my home here in Australia for a 3 week trip to the US. L.A first, San Francisco then Hawaii. I was sooo addicted to The Residents and anything on Ralph Records! I wouldn't listen to anything else for almost 5 years. I had a plan to go to Ralph. I arrived and checked in at the hotel with my parents and immediately called the number listed in the phone book. No answer! I tried again the next morning and spoke to a gentleman who, when I explained my origin and desire to visit they said " Usually we'd tell most folks to go to Tower Records, but since you're from Australia, come on down!" I freaked! Told my folks where I was going, and bolted out the hotel door. I ran down Market St and a few back streets to arrive at 109 Minna St. Knocked on a large roller door and was greeted by the most beautiful Asian/ American woman who invited me inside. I was astounded! Stage props from Villness Fats and piles of vinyl records surrounded me. I was dizzy to the point of collapse! Out of nowhere, a ginger haired gentleman appeared and was introduced to me as Hardy Fox, the head of Ralph Records. I had no idea who he was. They both allowed me to rifle through anything I took interest in. I found over a dozen or more 12 and 7" rare pieces to add to my collection, along with a couple of shirts. I paid them, thanked them for the opportunity and bid them farewell. 18 months later, back in Australia, they came to perform. As I waited in the audience for their arrival on stage, on the side of stage a door to the band dressing room was opened by a stage hand. As I watched, I could see Hardy dressed in black robes placing his skull head upon his shoulders. I had come full circle in a journey to the most pivotal experience of my life! Thank you Hardy, Homer and Phillip Lithman for all you have given me and the world.💀👀👁🐍

@@augustusbetucius1572 I was there and have photos that clearly show skull at emulator keyboards and Homer in alternating guises out front on mic. Snakefinger was on guitar with two female dancers/ performers in eyeball masks completing a compliment of four Residents. Trust me, I saw both shows here in Brisbane and one on the Gold Coast. Remember this was 1987 format of the Residents, so at that point only Homer and Hardy remained. Hope that clears your confusion.👍✌

I am fortunate to have seen the "first" Resident's live performance in San Francisco, The Mole Show, MC'd by Penn. What a great show. We snuck a camera in, have to find the film.

Longtime RESIDENTS fan, since 1980 when I worked for Wax Trax in Denver. Heard the music for the first time in the store and loved it. COMMERCIAL album was the first one I heard. Wow. I immediately went back and bought the first few, wore out the grooves at home. Been listening ever since. Thank you, Hardy and Homer, for the absolutely individual thing you created. This world is better because of you.

I had the Residents' single of SATISFACTION. I didn't know it was so rare. I ended up donating it (along with many more cds and 45" records) to an indie record store in NYC when I moved out of there last year.

I spoke to Penn briefly a few times at the intermission of some shows they did in SF in the late 80s. We mostly talked about The Residents. I never asked him who they were, it wasn't important. As time went by it became obvious who they were, it still didn't matter to me. The fights people get into over their identities are just ridiculous. I'm glad Hardy was able to leave in his own way and get the credit he deserves.

No. Fuck . He was the main guy! Black Skull.oh my god I watched them perform many many times in SF. This is crushing me . I spoke to him and Maggie on the phone and wormwood has a song about the head that came after a Halloween show in sf were we gave skull a decapitated head from our horror movie that nite. They cradled it for the rest of the show like a baby! It was a night to remember. They are a band of gods to me. Peace Christo They are gods they always will be and Hardy will never be forgotten by his crew still in Mr. Gino’s heart !

Some people just don’t like penn so they will dislike what he says regardless of what it’s about. Of the alleged members of the residents I’ve only met Homer a few times through shows and working at art galleries, and if H hung around homer for so many years he had to be a cool guy. RIP H
