    You actually can get KOed by a hook because biomechanical research shows that you need almost half the force to get KO with rotational forces. The jaw is leverage for the forces. What you can do is increase your neck flexors' isometric strength (as shown in research) can reduce the chance of concussions by 50% or more. And that reduction is linearly increased with more isometric strength. More specifically every 450g of extra isometric strength decreases concussion chances by 5%. So someone with just 9kg more isometric max strength of the neck, is 2 times more difficult to get concussed

      @@someboi4903 I remember Gabriel's brother also saying hooks were more dangerous when he was in a video recently to talk about concussions in combat sports, which feels more intuitive to me from a mechanical engineering perspective (in terms of which seems likelier to impart significant impact on the brain). Can't speak for the isometric neck strength numbers, but I do some neck bridging and headstands daily and am able to breeze through the neck workout video that was linked, so it seems like isometric neck training can carry over to combat performance.

    1. Do not blink, work on better vision. Take practice shots to head and work on peripheral vision ... noodles
    2. Improve neck strength with training.. has video ((personally this was a tough workout)
    3. When hurt, dont get reckless and go for KO ... ok to jab but need to recover. Mental focus.
    4. Bite down on mouth guard
    5. Mentally do not force a KO, dont charge in
    6. Roll with punches or kicks but know the distance... pull back also so not getting hit in back of head/neck
    7. Straight punches, per study, are more likely to KO, so be prepared to defend
    8. Hone your defense, practice

    The neck training really is something man, i did the whole semester daily and my absortion to strikes improved in a way i would never believe, got clipped hard a few times and managed to dont fade anymore and keep the breathing on point, and also ive been doing jaw + trapz exercises constantly i few the way i tuck in to protect my chin improve significantly, and Gabriel if you see this could you give us a hint on how to divide the week of weight training when you have box/kick seshs everyday? Im trying to hypertrophy at the same time but i feel my body gets exhausted, having in mind i just do this as hobby and not for competition purposes.

    Hi Gabriel! First of all big thanks and respect for your channel, which I am a new fan of. I just wanted to say, the 400 USD mic did the trick a little better, maybe the lapel mic is good for crowded big spaces, where it's really just catching your voice, but for the studio appearences is the good bright mic a lot better. I mean the quality of sound, the frequencies brights are just vastly different between these two.

    Rerecording seems to have paid off, because this sounds much cleaner than the first video with the new mic did 🙂
    And great tips, as usual 😃 Interesting that you found a study saying straight punches are more dangerous for the brain than hooks, because I think your brother had said that the opposite seems to be true 🤔Well, I guess it comes down to there not being a great way of tanking punches to the face, so get that defense trained up 💪

  • @paulpelle3046
    @paulpelle3046 2 года назад

    Btw...I’m no expert at all, but I think the gain/reverb setting is up too high on your mic. Perhaps the bass too. But the improvement in sound is completely obvious...especially as it’s a lapel mic. 🙏

  • @rolandotillit2867
    @rolandotillit2867 2 года назад

    How do you develop the awareness necessary for defense. First you have to understand the movements involved in a technique. Because say a technique takes 3 weight shifts to execute, and to defend you only need 2 weight shifts, then you look for that first step and know you have an extra step on your opponent. Take the straight punch, most untrained people will wind up, take two steps then throw their haymaker. If you recognize the first step and act on it, that haymaker has almost no chance of landing dead on. When we figure out a fighter's range, we are judging the shifts in weight they take in order to throw their punches/kicks/elbows/knees/etc. No good jab exists without footwork guiding it, even if you're standing still, unbeknownst to you, you make 3 small weight shifts every time you execute any technique.

    Thanks for the tips. It’s very important to avoid getting KO not just for profe but specially to avoid head and brain injury.
    What is your opinion on the Chinese fighter Yi Long? I’ve seen videos of him taking punches to the face (without guarding at all) and not getting KO or even knockdown. I also have seen him being KO by same type of punches or kicks.
    From your video, I’m guessing he avoids KOs by bracing his neck and abounding the head being rocked back. And that the time he has being KO he wasn’t ready to brace and got the worst of the strike.
