you should hit command + s or control + s when you've changed it from 18 to 17 in order to save the changes.
command + s or control + s means save.
command + f or control + f means find.
Woah, okay so I did not expect this to work because nobody is talking about it. I just downgraded from iOS 18 beta 4 to iOS 17.6 by following exactly what he did. The only problem was that my phone kept disconnecting from my pc. But eventually I got it to work. All my photos are here. My contacts. My accounts. And my apps are downloading as I write this. Don’t be afraid to do this like I was. Because it definitely works. Finally no more battery drain.

Does anyone know if it will work with 18.1, I would asume so but curious if anyone has tried it! Also it’s like mega frying my phone battery! So glad I found this! Also talked to apple support and was like there has to be a way to do this, and like fr so funny you literally just change the number, although has anyone seen any issues at all? Because I feel like this would cause issues…

I'm trying iOS 17 to 16 and this doesn't work, the restore fails with a vague error message (not the version one).
iOS 17 to 16 is now impossible because Apple no longer signs iOS 16. Also in my experience, iOS 16 is the worst modern OS...

somehow it prevents me from restoring and always shows me this error message(i did press Cmd + left click together) - "There was a problem downloading the software for the iPhone “Runze’s iPhone 15”. The requested resource was not found."
You have to do option + Click.

Exactly my thought, as much as I want to downgrade my phone back to iOS 17, I screwed up big time by upgrading it to iOS 18
You aren't losing data from doing this, it looks a little complicated, but all you need to change is one number. It's because some settings (like iOS 18 exclusive features) won't carry over.
It works! I got back everything, esim, many GB storage space.

It works I’m surprised it did but the only data I lost was my call logs I backed up my photos and WhatsApp to iCloud and that’s it the rest was pc backup
it says the file is corrupt
the backup or ipsw if its the backup revert the 17 string to 18 and re install iOS 18 and save ur valuable information (contacts photos, etc) then put you're phone into recovery mode then press "restore", if its the ipws re install it.
The find my IPhone is greyed out for me
You have to turn off stolen device protection first.
You may have to wait a hour after turning off device protection before you can turn it off
