Yvonne Elliman was also in Jesus Christ Superstar. She has a great voice and IMO was under appreciated.
Totally agree. I don't know how to Love Him is incredible!
She played Mary Magdalene, and that song was/is incredible.
i like her work with eric clapton.
@@Mark-iv7np so sad that it didn't start getting the recognition it deserved until Helen Reddy did her cover.
I sat in the third row at JS Superstar debut in Broadway.
I was 15.
I still have a crush on her.
Disco needs a HUGE comeback... such wonderful music... the joy of dancing to these great beats. WOW. Friday and Saturday Night's in the late '70's right to the discos. My goodness what a great time... WHEW!
Written by the Bee Gees, Yvonne Elliman is Mary Magdalene from Jesus Christ Superstar.
She’s well underrated
Another #1 hit off of the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. Yvonne sang back up for Eric Clapton in the early '70s.
Mid 70s....but she was great with Clapton and solo as well.
@@davidhutchinson5233 First sang background on Clapton's "I Shot the Sheriff" in 1973. Sang on subsequent albums through 1977. (And was romantically involved as well.)
I love the Bee Gees version just as much....written by the Bee Gees in 1977!!! The song initially appeared on the "Saturday Night Fever" soundtrack as Yvonne Elliman's version, released in November 1977. The Bee Gees' own version appeared a month later as the B-side of "Stayin' Alive".
Saw her third row center as Mary Magdalene in J C Superstar on Broadway in ‘72.
I was 14.
Still have a crush on her.
ICONIC IN DISCO ERA!
Yvonne played Mary Magdalene in the stage and movie productions of Jesus Christ Superstar. The song " I Don't Know How to Love Him" from the movie was her first hit, reaching the American top 40 in 1971 (peaked at 28). You must listen to "Love Me" from her 1977 album, the song was written by Barry and Robin Gibb (the Bee Gees would later record the song); it reached #14 on the Hot 100 and # 5 on the AC chart. Her cover of the Barbara Lewis song "Hello Stranger" from the same album reached #15 on the pop charts and #1 on the AC. Yvonne was suppose to sing "How Deep Is Your Love", for the SNF soundtrack. The Bee Gees manager heard the demo, and told them to keep the song. Instead she got this song "If I Can't Have You", which was #1 pop & #9 AC. Her final hit was Love Pains which was top 40 on both Pop and AC charts at #34 & #33 respectively.
and sang with Eric Clapton
Yvonne actually played the part, not ONLY in the stage and movie production, but also sang her parts on the album. In fact, she was 1 of the only 2 actors involved that did all 3. Barry Dennen (Pontius Pilate) was the other actor who did this (stage, screen and album). I only know this because, not only have I seen the 1st 2 when they came out ... the movie while in boarding school in Indiana and the play when I moved to Oakland, shortly thereafter ... but I've had the album (then CD) and movie since they were available to purchase and pretty much all these years, but I also play them both fairly often. I only saw the play that 1 time but. obviously, this "event" has made a lasting impression on me. Thought you might appreciate knowing 👍😊.
Back in 71 everybody and their dog had the Jesus Christ Superstar LP.
@@glassontherocks Definitely agree, and I don't know why. I mean, my dog didn't really seem to play it that often so, I don't think he was really into it all that much, but he DID look funny when he put on the headphones though 😜🤪🤣🤣🤣.
Seriously, it always astonished me to see my friends with that album, because a LOT of them were not really that religious back then. Of course, the songs/music was awesome and Yvonne WAS stunning (at least to me). Shit, she could sing anything to me and I'd've written her all the bad checks she wanted, just to keep her near 👀😉😊😁👍.
Cheers 👍😊😎
@@glassontherocks I had the LP, but my dog had the 8-Track. I think he deliberately got that so I'd take him on car rides.
Born and raised in Hawaii, i’ve always loved Yvonne‘s voice. She has lots of other good songs, glad you enjoyed, Angela!
Its a catchy tune...always liked it as well as Yvonne Elliman. 👍
I love Yvonne's voice. She sang the role of Mary Magdalene on the "Jesus Christ Superstar" album and for four years with the stage production.
song was so great then and still now.. hypnotically good! she had a number of hits back in the day, and all were great...
Written by the Bee Gees and they have covered it. It's one of my favorite songs from the Era.
Wow!! You were so into it back then..I wish u could recapture the energy and enjoyment u showed on these old videos!! Great reaction. I'm doing my part to try to give u great songs to react too
One of the many great songs that were from "Saturday Night Fever"- sound track in 1977. Yvonne Elliman is Irish/Japanese born in Honolulu, Hawaii and started her singing career at the age of 19 singing in 1970 on "Jesus Christ Superstar". She sang with Eric Clapton and with other songs written by the Bee Gees including "If I Can't Have You".
Classic disco song from Yvonne Elliman 👏🏽👏🏽 Angela 🥰😍your chair dance tonight and your beautiful smile made my day! 🙏🏽✌🏽🌎🌍🌏♥️
One of my favorite songs of the 70s
Another great song written by the Bee Gees. From the soundtrack album Saturday Night Fever. If I can’t have you...😍😍😍❤️
❤❤And just like THAT... we're at the skating rink, having a pure BLAST !!❤
Another tune penned by Barry, Maurice and Robin for the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack.
Yvonne Elliman's cover of another BeeGee's song "Love Me" was also a big hit for her.
Saturday Night Fever. Great version of a Bee Gees song. They wrote it but it's basically her song.
They can't do no wrong.
@@ferdinandfrancis9673 can
Of course you love this song, Angela bc it was written by the Bee Gees. Loved your reaction video. Stay healthy and safe 👍🏽 ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
Beautiful song
Her other hits were I Don't Know How to Love Him, from Jesus Christ Superstar, and Midnight at the Oasis. She also was a back up singer for Eric Clapton on a couple of his albums.
Lay Down Sally is my favorite song she sings backup on.
Loved her singing, "I don't know how to love him"
"Midnight at the Oasis" was Maria Muldaur. Yvonne had at least a couple of other minor hits, though - "Love Me" and "Hello, Stranger".
@@Pixelologist oops. You are right got con fused.
Love Me is one of my favorites
One of my favorite childhood songs, loved it !
Yvonne Elliman and this song was my favorite of the time. Written by the Bee Gees. She killed it with this song! Seriously probably one of the few disco era songs I liked. I have to say however I was happy when disco died.
It was written by the Bee Gees and it was on the Saturday night fever soundtrack speaking of disco
Yvonne is the luv of my life. Cape Town South Africa
Great dancing in the background! Loved it. I dj'ed at two discos in 77-78. She was my favorite non-disco , disco singer! She was a great singer on Broadway. Mary Magdeline. But, that song made my top 10 disco songs of all-time and only pop song on it. SNL album.
"Love Me" and "Hello, Stranger" were her other hit songs. She starred in the Broadway version of "Jesus Christ Superstar" and hada hit with a song from the play, " I Don't Know How to Love Him."
This is one of my all time favorite Disco songs, and was featured on Saturday Night Fever! A go go dancer was revealing her hidden treasures while this song was playing! Goodbye!
Another one of my favorite songs!
takes me back
Classic Disco, outstanding.
Someone needs to take you out on the dance floor that's well acquainted with disco/country dancing and show you how much fun dancing to this song REALLY is.
A girl after my own heart! Disco lover and 70's! 😇 You could be my daughter, age wise...love this channel and look forward to it every night especially ladies night!
Of course you love it. It was written by the Bee Gees.
Dug their early songs much. Tho not disco, great songwriters
Not only did they write the song, they're also the backup singers.
Yvonne Elliman performed in the film "Jesus Christ Super Star."
I think that if there was a door back to the 70's YOU would be the first in line ! ?
Angela, GET IT GIRL! Great to see you having fun, dancing in your seat to the music. That's what it's supposed to be about. As always, Love your reaction videos!
Love love love this!
Ella es unos de los rostros más hermosos y esa voz tan linda que enamora la mejor de los 70 sin duda alguna mis respetos siempre desde Puerto Rico bendiciones y gracias por subir esta joya de canción ❤
Her performance as Mary Magdalene in 'Jesus Christ Superstar' the Rock opera album is STILL the standard that all other artists are compared to in that roll. She was simply amazing!
,This is my favorite reaction of yours. Seeing you express your happiness made me smile. Thank you.
My favorites disco song! Great voice, love it, love the song.Yvonne is from Hawaii. Hard to believe it'll be 50 yrs old soon. Had a few other nice songs.
Another great Bee Gees song
Gosh I Love her!!! She's fabulous!
I had the same impression that this song was from someone else in the disco era. I just found the song on my RUclips subscription recently and can not believe I did not know this beautiful ladies name. Yvonne Eilliman!
I remember buying this single back in the day. Loved it.
Yvonne Elliman, so beautiful!
LOVE THE SONG TO THIS DAY
Disco at its finest!
I've heard this song so many times and I never pictured her to be so stunning. I have no idea why.
Bee Gees written epic classic!!
Love the Disco days made you want to dance especially this song when i first heard it on john Travolta Saturday nigh fever movie
One of my favorite singers,Ms.ellaman
Rock out young lady another great song
Excellent reaction. And, excellent song.
Yeah this is one of those happy chair dance songs or even driving down the highway in the summer with the windows down while you chair dance in your car seat
Starred in movies, toured with Clapton, released her own singles...a total artist indeed.
This was just a great arrangement and her tone and intonation was just perfect soulful and sexy as hell
Bee Gees song from Saturday Night Fever movie. Great Yvonne as always.
my favorite song form yvonne elliman is LOVE ME!!!
We all love this song 💃🕺🏻
Angela love the show, and keep seat dancing. You are brilliant ❤
This is the sad Yvonne version- there are videos of her singing this with a sweet smile that just will melt your heart.
I haven't commented lately, but I'm still loving your reactions. Your personality, smile, laugh, comments, and (of course) chair dancing just make me so happy. It's contagious and so entertaining 😊. -Joni
What a jam. Bee Gees signatures all over it but Yvonne put a nice touch on it with her very listener friendly vocals.
Looking back, it was quite a ride living through the 60's and 70's and all the magnificent music. Back when all this was new. Lol
Absolutely loved this song growing up!
Song is awsome then and now I was 8 years old in 77 heard it on 1 speaker am radio in a 66 chevy then
Very nice song!! Haven’t heard this in years. Thanks Angela!
Thank you Gordon Taira. I’ve been waiting forever for someone to request this song. This song is LEGENDARY. Good video. R.
this song was written by the Bee Gee's for the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, best song on the soundtrack
I love when u start dancing Day one, greetings form Mexico.
But not when she starts singing. We could have done without that.
One of my top twenty favorite songs of all time, great voice, she has other great songs, like remake of hello stranger, etc etc,: essences of Jamal of DC.
This song was written by the Bee Gees for her off the incredible Saturday Night Fever soundtrack album. Just like they wrote "Heartbreaker" for Dionne Warwick or "Emotion" for Samantha Sang (all songs te also recorded themselves but were not the ones that were hit singles).
You got some Lit disco moves girl. Great fun reaction.
i worn my Saturday Night Fever soundtrack out . wonderful time to be a teenager
1970 recording of Jesus Christ Superstar, she was Mary Magdalene and was amazing, also in that same recording was Ian Gillan (Deep Purple) played Jesus and Murray Head (One Night In Bangkok) was Judas, a magnificent piece of work, please listen to her sing I Don't Know How To Love Him.
Great dance song....she sang backup for Eric Clapton.
Angela you should do a reaction to Neil Sedaka Laughter in the rain.
She also did some fine back up singing with ERIC CLAPTON.... good song☮️🌷🎶
The Genius of the LEGENDARY Iconic Gibb Brothers aka the Bee Gees
I love this song, one of my favourites..and love her voice too x
Oh I Love your Reaction ❤❤
Great Song!
Absolutely amazing song! She's amazing! This song has night mood like crazy. I have always loved it!
From the soundtrack of "Saturday Night Fever" (1977), one of the greatest movie soundtracks of all time.
I love these old disco AM Gold songs…these are my guilty pleasure. Brings back so many memories from childhood. Keep it up!! I’ll be here for them 👍👍🤘 you’re a damn sexy dancer too 😏😘
Written by the Bee Gees of course!
Another song similar style to "i Can't Have You" is Nicolette Larson - Lotta Love (1978). Also, I don't know if you can react to these songs, but there are Mash-Up's of popular songs/styles. One was Van Halen's -Jump (music) with ABBA - Super Trooper (singing). It sounds strange to read, but that mash-up is really cool.
Home town girl from my neck of the woods. Grew up listening to her. She has a great voice. Always watch her on PBS - "My Music: Superstars of 70's Soul" reruns.
Angela, 💕 giggles, you knocked another classic hit out the park with Yvonne E from Saturday Night Fever. Thanks 👍😊.
Beautiful 👌
Props to the background voices ! They are magic !
French horns rock!! That sounds made this song.
I knew she would like this song.
