Dick Clark Always knew his interviewees, history and accomplishments, and then he made them feel genuinely comfortable and appreciated, never saw him treat anyone without admiration and respect for their musical talent. He was a big part of Music back then!
God bless you, Dick Clark. What a classy and well versed host of a great show. I remember watching the American Bandstand in it's first broadcasting in Canton, Ohio, many, many decades ago. What a great song and a voice! A trendsetter for many Asian singers although the opportunity is still not available for Asian-Americans to get the spot light.
Had such a crush on her, and I was only a little kid! I was like 7 or 8 years old, and I loved "If I Can't Have You", and when I first saw her on whatever program it was, I told my grandmother that the lady on the TV was my girlfriend!
To anyone thinking she was Hawaiian - Her dad was Irish and her mum Japanese. She only lived in Honolulu after her parents moved there. It's that combination of Western & Oriental blood that makes her sooooo beautiful. It would be interesting to know why over there is over 400 dislikes. It is such an iconic 70's song from Saturday Night Fever and had such a part of my life back then. More power to Yvonne Elliman, loved you then and now. Show less REPLY
400 tasteless people gave dislikes, seriously? I heard The Bee Gees perform “If I Can’t Have You.” They wrote it, but couldn’t do it anywhere as beautifully as she did. I still think she should have been a much bigger star.
After seeing J C Superstar, this gorgeous woman was my all time teenage crush, but only a few years later I switched to blondes when Agnetha from ABBA appeared on the scene. I have to confess though that after seeing this interview Yvonne was a lovely person and a beautiful singer.
In her live performances you not only get that lovely voice, but she exudes an energy that makes you wish time could stand still and that you could stay forever in that moment.
so cool! This audio recording is very clear even by today's standards. It's cool how even before I was born people were performing and giving advice that still stands today. I love it! ❤️
Not to take away anything from her talent, but I really respect how she admits she had some luck and doesn't pretend and hide behind some wall of vanity.
Funny you mentioned "jiggling action" because the brand of humor featured in that decade's biggest sitcom 'Three's Company' is called 'jiggle humor', most of which was supplied by the bouncy Chrissy Snow.
writerforlifeify we had American bandstand here in Hong Kong, and I remember seeing this and thinking( was13 when this aired) what a drop dead gorgeous woman ! Kinda felt randy too 😂
Probably because she is a Good Woman. And is so Beautiful inside and out, and has the Voice of an Angel. Because she wouldn't sell out. "Sell her Soul." The evil people in the Music Industry tried to ruin her with Drugs. I never knew until today, who She really was. But I always knew, when I heard Her Song, Her Voice, That She had to be Gorgeous. The more you look at Her, She gets even more Beautiful. I hope Her Life turns back around. She's a True American Beauty.
In what way should she turn her life around? She didn't let anybody evil get ahold of her, she gas children to raise to in which she returned to finish out her life with them raising them to be proper adults once they got old enough to be on their own. She didn't get involved in anything bad that I know of.
Mr.Clark certainly spouts a pearl of wisdom , commenting upon Talent VS Determination ... Too many times i've seen Loudmouths shove themselves down everybodys' throats, while sensitive Artists sit quietly on the sides getting ignored
Casey Kasem's American Top 40 from just before this big hit, tells of a forgotten story about how the producers or owners Jesus Christ Superstar paid her just $240, a stunner of a story of how the music industry exploited her as she saw the movie make MILLIONS of which she got just that payment. I wish Yvonne the best, we love and support you, hope you're doing much better, you deserve it! We'll always love you!
Dick, the days when the interviewees matter Corden Norton Carr read and take on board God rest Parky every other intervier who knew his/her job. As for Yvonne how's life m'dear girl
This was not the first time Ms. Elliman appeared on "Bandstand". She and, I'm sure, everyone else who appeared on the show knew his style. The idea, after all, is to keep it moving, particularly when an artist pauses to answer a question. And isn't it a little easy and unfair to trash a guy who's A) doing the heavy lifting of conducting an interview on what's HIS show, and B) who's not around now to defend himself?
Exactly, especially the fact that there's such things as a time limit since abc and other networks have to pay for commercial breaks I remember seeing her 1st appearance when VH-1 aired reruns of AB called The Best of American Bandstand and Mr. Clark even said that she has a wonderful, passionate voice and boy he couldn't have said it any better God Bless Mr. Clark-a TRUE Class Act and God Bless Miss Yvonne Elliman R.I.P. Mr. Clark, until we see ya upstairs, So Long Friend
For people who are criticizing Dick Clark's interview style must not understand television production or broadcasting in general. When interviewing, you have to be quick and able to keep it going with no dead spots and you're under time constraints.
It’s hard not to adore Yvonne Elliman. And what a voice!
I hear ya
Yeah, true, I do love how she sings, however, she kinda needs to wear a bra.
@@danbasta3677 why nobody today wears one like Jennifer Lopez she's always hanging out
Totally agree !!
Even her speaking voice is Melodically Beautiful.
Soothing voice.
Dick Clark Always knew his interviewees, history and accomplishments, and then he made them feel genuinely comfortable and appreciated, never saw him treat anyone without admiration and respect for their musical talent. He was a big part of Music back then!
Ive been in love with her since 1977 - she is special and unique
She was my favorite singer in the 70s and I still come back to listen to her. I hope Netflix makes a series about her. I'd love to see her story
God bless you, Dick Clark. What a classy and well versed host of a great show. I remember watching the American Bandstand in it's first broadcasting in Canton, Ohio, many, many decades ago.

She's such a doll!
Had such a crush on her, and I was only a little kid! I was like 7 or 8 years old, and I loved "If I Can't Have You", and when I first saw her on whatever program it was, I told my grandmother that the lady on the TV was my girlfriend!
How implausibly ironical! - because I told the lady on the TV that your grandmother was my girlfriend!
I don't have the words for how lovely she is.
I do - plenty. Sex on legs, bad bootylicious babymama, smoking hot sex kitten, ...and so forth.
I'm sure EC enjoyed her.

She looks full Japanese. I actually have a Chinese friend who looks like her.

She's got a soulful voice and she's so beautiful.
Aww... she seems so sweet. And amazing voice.
After seeing J C Superstar, this gorgeous woman was my all time teenage crush, but only a few years later I switched to blondes when Agnetha from ABBA appeared on the scene. I have to confess though that after seeing this interview Yvonne was a lovely person and a beautiful singer.
2023, and her music still brings hope to people.
In her live performances you not only get that lovely voice, but she exudes an energy that makes you wish time could stand still and that you could stay forever in that moment.

Purely amazing lady...
Yvonne is a native of Honolulu, and specifically the Manoa neighborhood, home of the University of Hawaii.
She's got much more than a little bit of talent to go with her determination.
Yvonne Elliman She's Really Beautiful And Pretty I ♥ Her
glad we have this thing called "youtube".now i can see what i missed when i was in the navy.lot of times i was on ,duty or preempted by a game,etc..
Not to take away anything from her talent, but I really respect how she admits she had some luck and doesn't pretend and hide behind some wall of vanity.
I love her speaking voice in addition to her singing talent. And that outfit...sooo 70s & sexy!!
Wonderfully husky voice. And that bra-less outfit and jiggling action is something else alright.
Funny you mentioned "jiggling action" because the brand of humor featured in that decade's biggest sitcom 'Three's Company' is called 'jiggle humor', most of which was supplied by the bouncy Chrissy Snow.

Mr.Clark certainly spouts a pearl of wisdom , commenting upon Talent VS Determination ... Too many times i've seen Loudmouths shove themselves down everybodys' throats, while sensitive Artists sit quietly on the sides getting ignored
So cute.
I loved her. So sad.

Dick Clark was at that Johnny Carson level of interviewer. Knew how to get the best out of his guests.
beautiful lovley lady nobody else ill do the way she sings!*
👍👍👍👍
Nice classic
Dick, the days when the interviewees matter Corden Norton Carr read and take on board God rest Parky every other intervier who knew his/her job. As for Yvonne how's life m'dear girl
Make sure you add blasting sound effects at the end that were much louder than the dialogue: Ugh
Clark was 100% professional.
My girl.... I'm so in live with her.

Yes we do, there are many interviewers who do it better
Huh! I'll miss dicky boy if they rpt bandstand from the start!!!!!!!!

She's pretty and he's handsome-yeah!-.
Her accent is unusual. I know her mom is Japanese but she grew up in Hawaii.
Exotic beauty.
Mr. Clark was an amazing interviewer.
............🕵️
Is it me or does Yvonne slightly sound like Jennifer Tilly
One's dead and ones a junkie. Time is a thief.
No wonder he could not talk he was looking at her shirt or lack of? I would be the same!
Shes obviously nervous about it at first.
microphone was too expensive for this programe show.
R.I.P DICK CLARK !!!!!!!!
2019
EC had a relationship with Yvonne? Any comment?
I guess they didn't have braces back then.
It's about blind love love is blind the first Priestess Princess before the Queen Lin linguist linked with Cross ✝️ Taklamakan Desert Jesus love 💘
No Dick it would be impolite to keep asking questions before she's finished answering the last one. I give him a 54 I just couldn't groove to him.
MrRivendellknight he was on a time constraint. He had to move on to the next question one after another.
Extremely saddened to see that she is on hard drugs such a great voice.
Dick Clarks interview style is cringe worthy.
He was a fucking dork.
He's rude as fuck....cuts off every single answer with another question....acts like he did a few gaggers before the interview.
