When Chris said "gotta run out and get a diode" I immediately thought Radio Shack, then paused the video and cried quietly in the bathroom. I miss Radio Shack.
Excellent video Penny's Crew Cory :) , Chris :) also so far I know of hand GM Delco Alternator with Internal Regulartor ones made for 1968 to 1985 is Pin 1 is + Red goes To Battery post to Volt gauge 2 pin Regulartor is - ground Black to so Recharge battery and Ignition switch need red wire plus eye connector to small to engine block and wire up to + coil ! I know be pain wire up but hope whole car is ground too front to in engine to body to electriconics like gauges plus Ignition switch to trunk and frame too!
If you guys need a one wire GM alternator let me know. I sell them in the store and they're cheap! I know how you feel Chris, but I run a Delco alternator in my other brands! 😆 Go Penny's!!!
If a (b) circuit regulator is installed in the alternator instead of the (a) circuit one the alternator will charge right at start up.No need to bump engine to start it charging and it will now charge at idle speed .I'm not in my shop now so I don't have the partt # ,but WAI auto parts have them they are 5$ usd.
If memory serves me correctly wasn't the wiring diagram drawn up on a IHOP placemat? Good work guys, I hate wiring--that's the reason the Rambler was wired up twice!😆
The wire that turns the alternator on must be on the accessory side of the ignition switch as well as heater signal and other accessories .Only the coil is to be on the ing.side of switch .This way there is no connection between the two when the ignition switch is in the off position
# 2 spade of reg simply goes to bat post of alt it is the battery sense terminal # 1 spade goes to acc side of ing switch thru indicator light or resister . the reason for the resistance is if there ever is a bad connection on the battery out put to positive on battery ,alternator will not try to charge battery from the #2 lead there by over loading the wire and letting the smoke out
Couldn't see too well when you were soldering with the torch but you should make sure you heat sink the diode, especially with that amount of heat on it or it will be destroyed.

Thanks Andrew i have never been a fan of wiring.
@@pennyshotrodscustoms welcome and no problem !

@@jimc1401 Thanks for the info guys nice to have help and info.
The (R) terminal on the starter solenoid goes to the coil side of the ballast ,giving the coil full battery + at start up
And i believe we never hooked that up at first giving us problems i have never been a fan of wiring.

Haha I think you were there as well helping draw it up if memory serves me 😂😂
@@corypenny2078 No wonder it doesn't work! 😆😆😆
What would you boys do without Chris? He keeps you straight.
Got that right.
😂
I had run on condition in my Camaro. The electric fan was the culprit.
Funny thing i have one as well in my car least we figured it out.
On my 57 Chev I added a diode in line with the feed wire from the key. Did this almost 20 years ago and no issues, same diode.
Thank you for the info was wondering about that.

Sounds like you have wired and done this many many times.😁😁

Thank you for the info we have never had this problem before its getting there thanks for watching.
That a 12si alt?
1 ign,other is indicator bulb.
I believe so frank .
