    I just bought this Google Nest Protect and installed it today. Per the back panel it should be good until January 16, 2032! Setup and installation was seamless. It's helpful if you have a Gmail account. My router requires the device's MAC address for connection which can be found under settings in the app (I use Android). Looks like a nice piece of hi-tech gadgetry hanging on my hallway wall. 😉 I couldn't install it on my ceiling due to they are cement, but the wall should be fine. I ran it through a test. It is LOUD! The pleasant speaking voice and cool colored ring and night light are a bonus. 😃

    I've just purchased a Nest Protect directly from Google because they had them on offer. Like you, I was assuming they would be newer as they would be shifting more stock than anyone else. However, when it arrived 3 days ago, it was new and sealed, yet it was manufactured in July 2019, so over 3 years old. Not very good as a third of its lifespan has expired already. I have emailed Google to complain, but no answer yet.

      Thats a shame to hear. I wonder if the ones on offer were they trying to move older ones.

    I have an original Nest and Protect from Nest. After one year I was asked to move to Google nest app. I have changed my batteries but I have never been able to check in on the app. On a monthly basis I get an email saying my Nest did not check in ‘OFF LINE on hallway’. I followed the set up instructions again last week when I was installing new batteries. I was setting it up on my iPad. My Nest is working fine testing and I hope it continues working until it expires in 2028. I would still recommend Nest as all tests are functioning correctly and it does glow at night in the hallway if leaving the bedroom to use the bathroom.

    Silence might be useful in S. Calif where we seem to get bad smoke from brush fires every couple of years. Also increased levels of smoke so we can run around sealing the house.

    I keep getting false alarms. The white pages says it may be because of steam or moisture. I don't understand since you are supposed to be able to put it in a kitchen where there is moisture from cooking and cleaning.

    • @Wanderer001_Reviews

      Yes, but there is an option in the app that you need to turn on in order to have that be active.

    My Nest detector says it's detecting smoke but there isn't any smoke. It won't stop flashing yellow, what can I do?

    • @Wanderer001_Reviews
      @Wanderer001_Reviews  8 месяцев назад +1

      When it flashes yellow that is a connection issue not detecting smoke. You may want to try setting it up again to make sure it has a strong connection to your wifi.

  • @kingtut6401
    @kingtut6401 Год назад

    BONK....the APP did not notify you of the smoke...when you pushed to silence the detector your phone was still black. The APP claims it will alert you to a fire with a POP up...all it does is show you a little bitty circle with a house in it. If this was a good APP is should alert you like those AMBER alerts do in the middle of the night. This nest APP does not. Oh and it will only allow you to add to one phone. We tried to add the same smoke detectors to other cell phones in the house and it does not allow you too. It will only work if you have the goggle assistant.

    • @Wanderer001_Reviews
      @Wanderer001_Reviews  Год назад +1

      The app does a push notification to your phone, depending on the phone you have is what this would look like. As for my phone when you see it in the video I had already tapped the notification to open it up. So you see the screen it brings you to after tapping the push notification. As for getting something like you would for an AMBER alert Google would never allow something like that from an app. It would be consider a screen take over and people and companies don't like that.

    1. Compare the effectiveness of it vs First Alert Photoelectric-based devices.
    2. Compare the dB volume levels each device in such comparison have.

      Being in the fire service industry, I’m not a fan of first alert, even their photoelectric alarms. However, first alert IS a fire protection company vs GOOGLE is not. Both are made in china, among other quality issues. We recommend Omnishield, huge quality difference and life saving record difference.

      It was a lot of money up front. But for me it also gives me peace of mind while I am out of the house. Fire and water damage are the things I worry about the most. I had an electrical heater in my condo catch fire early in the morning while I was still up to catch it. But I always worry now what if I was not up or out of the house when that happen. Then I can justify the price a little better. Also some home insurance companies will give you a discount for having smart smoke detectors.

      @@sephiroth4543 That is very true, there are a few other options out there that are a little cheaper depending. Roost makes a smart battery that can be used in old smoke detectors to make them "smart". X-Sense makes pretty reasonable priced smart smoke detectors. If you have a security camera like wyze they have a feature that if the camera heras a smoke alarm going off it will send you a notification. Depends on what you are looking for it to do.

      The military services control what can and cannot ship to an APO address, rarely it’s the companies. Companies lose money by not being allowed to ship to military addresses so they would if they could. Nothing to do about companies not liking the military. I’m a Veteran of 28 years so I have looked into these things.
