My apartment has Kidde P4010 hard-wired smoke alarms. They suck, and the network error ((chime) “Connection lost. Press button to temporarily silence”) is entirely random even when I’m sleeping peacefully.
@ Agreed. I wanted more videos of people doing these kinds of things to the detectors but there’s like barely any good ones.. so I decided to do it myself 😭
We’ve had KIDDE my whole life, only had an issue once when they went out of service (over 10 years old). Maybe we have a premium version of KIDDE? But ours also work pretty well-burned food in the oven once. It let off a nearly invisible cloud of black smoke that was incredibly tiny, and it set them off. However, they didn’t go off again once the smoke was fanned away from the alarm. The one in this video definitely seems off…
I've only had small experience with this certain smoke/co detector, but the KN-COSM-BA model, (The version without the wall power plug) I tried working with it and it just failed first try! So I used a different one and it worked as expected!
Really it’s a water detector. And does better at detecting that than fire. “Water!” Man those Kiddies are pretty durable! Now I’d love to see a First Alert get submerged!
I’m a maintenance man and we had to go replace one of these at a fire station, the very smart firemen had hidden it wrapped in a towel in an outdoor shed 😂
if the smoke detector doesn't have americium, which is why it's so cheap, then the smoke detector won't smoke detect because the americium emits alpha particles, which ionize the air inside the detector, allowing a small electric current to flow. when smoke enters the chamber, it disrupts this current, triggering the alarm. thanks, Google AI! love this video since I'm a destroyer and you're just destroying a smoke detector.
We had some USI smoke alarms until they stopped working because of the end of life. We bought Kidde smoke alarms, and omg we wish we never got them. They were the FireX branded Kidde alarms. We tried testing them, and they would not shut up even just by testing it via buttons. I hate the Kidde branded alarms. First Alert is much better.
@@mtgau2000 I wholeheartedly agree with you, that’s why Im trying to replace every firex/kidde alarm in my house with first alert units. In my most recent video it showcases the newest unit, if you wanna see it. I wouldn’t ever recommend getting any fireX branded unit.

Tap water is very bad conductor for low voltage DC I remmember PC FAN working for two month in aquarium it stop because motor was full of dirt and soil but until it work fishes like to swim towards upstream of FAN. Ionisation smoke detector is very expensive and hard to find in my country now even old used one. I had one for 15years with no false alarm but still working with smoke test not in use now but still have somewhere in box. It was 9V battery operated but national EPS company make over them for use with wired alarm system.
A properly functioning smoke detector is not considered dangerous to humans, as the amount of radiation emitted from the small amount of Americium-241 used in ionization detectors is minimal and poses no health risk when the device is used as intended; however, tampering with a smoke detector can be dangerous as it could expose you to radiation if the internal components are damaged. Key points about smoke detector safety: Minimal radiation: The amount of Americium-241 in a smoke detector is very small and emits low levels of radiation, which is considered safe for normal use. Sealed chamber: The Americium is sealed inside the ionization chamber, preventing significant exposure to radiation unless the detector is damaged. Proper handling: Always follow instructions when installing, maintaining, and disposing of smoke detectors.
@@KPfireSAFETY Due to the intelligent technology that might technically make them multi-criteria ionization units. And just for the record the KN-COSM-IBA isn't the most hated Kidde alarm, the FireX i4618AC is.
@ Haha you might be right. I looked at kidde’s website for their own detectors and it had horrid reviews. I also may be wrong but I’m pretty sure they were designed with a simple ionization sensor. I’ll definitely look into that
I had a broken smoke detector on ny ceiling, but heres the thing, my ceiling is 20 feet high and the smoke detector would be going off every hour of the day for about a week and a half straight so i decided so get a ladder to take it down, i than proceeded to fall off said ladder and ALMOST broke my arm, but hey I got the detector down 😭🤷♂️
