Very well done!!! I just cant get over the fact, that Tolkien described Theodens charge as if Orome was there him self. Thus the king finished his brilliant arc and he could finally go to the halls of his forfathers :)
Thank you!! Though Theoden was old in years, his clearness of sight was restored to him, and all weariness fled from his body (and mind). He perished most nobly, and earned a place among the seat of his forfathers whose "..in their mighty company I shall not now be ashamed".
The most badass passage ever put to pen in the hands of men. The movie does it justice, I think: “RIDE NOW! RIDE NOW! RIDE FOR RUIN! AND THE WORLD’S ENDING!”
As Renan has correctly pointed out, in the books, this line was spoken by Eomer, not Theoden. It was uttered just after he found his sister, Eowyn on the battlefield, and mistakenly thought her dead, and thus went into a sort of a final "madness" of battle and despair, which caused him to utter that most desperate and chilling cry. In the movies, they retooled it to be spoken by Theoden instead. I would have personally much preferred to hear him shout: "Ride now, ride now, ride to Gondor!" This keeping his honoring of their ancient oath of friendship between the two peoples is spine-chilling.
@@LordVader1094 but that isn't Theoden's character. He still hopes and isn't in despair, when he yells it is to rally his knights to help his allies and long time friends, not to send themselves into meaningless slaughter. When Eomer yells that, Theoden has died and he thinks that Eowyn has died as well, his heart had sank and he gave into despair, then he rides recklessly to battle without any care for his well being. Yelling "death!" and "ride to ruin and the world's ending" only makes sense in that context. Maybe you haven't read the books or you don't remember that.
Thank you for the recommendation, I believe this style does work well for me. I like how you used the footage as well to help paint the picture of the narration, well done!
The credit for reading goes to the wonderful Audiobook made by Phil Dragash :) But as for the rest (I.e. making the video composition and everything), thank you!
@@sapphirevilya The part I remember in my head from reading the book is when the Rohirirm started riding out, and they sang. They sang in the lust for battle and lived in that exact moment. Nothing else mattered. I wish Peter Jackson could have captured that.
Option 1: random guy we don't care about screaming and wielding an axe against an orc we don't know. Option 2: army we do care about raise their voices in song as the British in the film Zulu leading up to the final battle. Shoot. Now I need to pull up that Zulu clip again.
@@AdmLysis There is much that I wish the films would have done differently. They are at their best when they stick to Tolkien. This is one of the reasons why Fellowship of the Ring is my favorite LotR film. It is the one where most respect and close adherence (comparatively) has been giving to the lore. As good as these films are, there are many places where I think they could have been even better had they stuck to the source and not strayed too far from it.
Hi Emily! Thank you! I remember you from back then! You were on and off for a few times if I remember right. Trying to find creative ways to keep me occupied during quarantine.
Sapphire Vilya Yeah, it’s been a little while since I’ve been on the app. I’m glad to hear that though! I’m doing the same. It would be nice to go out and do something, but I suppose I’ll have to settle for sitting at home 😂
The stories have disappeared from the library at minith thrith. But this is perhaps the best of the movie, with the WORDS OF JRR . the movie was lacking ,but now with the Tolkien words and some other great images inspired by the words, it is as Tolkien meant it to be. But where is the rest of it??? Is this the tease to buy something??
No, of course not! I wouldn't want to make money out of someone's else's hard work, plus I could not monetize such a video because of copyright reasons, not that I want to anyway! I'm happy working on things that I love, and if it resonates (as it seems to have done here) that just makes me even more happy! :) This is purely a fan video I always wanted to make which depicts one of my all-time favorite scenes from the books (The Ride of the Rohirrim) featuring a wonderful reading by Phil Dragash, combined with the Film's visuals and score to make one epic scene come to life from the pages. The Movie scene was great, but I feel the words of Tolkien, and the resulting matching - recompositing of the scene made to go along with it - elevate it to a whole new level.
Very well done!!!

The Orome reference about Theoden says so much about Theoden. Which is why he, In a host of great characters, is one of my top 3 favorites
I don't know if there is ever been anything written, that is so moving as this scene.
Bro ill never not tear up. Men like this were REAL at one point. Madness.
Your creative editing of the theatrical scenes, in combination with fantastic voiceover work, really made this one pop. Great job!

Because that's Eomer's line not Theoden's. It makes no sense in a different context.

@@MrRenanHappy It does make sense, because they expect to lose and for the world to end

No. “And they sang as they slew” is the most badass line ever
Just finished the audio of the tree books. Brilliant and finishing with the grey havens has made me cry.
where did you find them? I only managed to find the fellowship of the ring :( thank you very much

Just as epic as when I read it.
This is wonderful, thank you!
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it!
Sang as they slew.
In my mind: Battle hymn of the Republic.
So well done!! Wow!

This is outstanding! I wish you could do the entire trilogy in this manner
He did. Look up Phil Dragash. He did all 3 books in this style
If you speak truly windfallaj, then may you live beyond this day in years of blessedness…
So good man! You read it even better than Tolkien himself imo.
thanks to phill!!!!!!
Excellent video, made me want to grab my shield and spear!
Thank you! it's a rousing speech. One of my absolute favorite chapters from the books!

Amazing!
Thank you! :D
Amazing video!
the only thing better from the book was Sir Bernard Hills DEATH scream what a actor what a scean what a man RIP
I simply cannot get emotionally involved when the narration’s voice is so plain and not epic. Awe!
This is epic
Thank you very much!
Can anyone tell me which song was played in the background at 9:54?
Its the "Battle of the Pelennor Fields" track of the Lord of The Rings movies :)

He’s reading the actual book. Some guy put clips from the movie over Phil’s phenomenal audiobook.
No, the audio of Phil Dragash's recording is at the same speed as the original. Haven't made any alterations to it.
