Your wife looks so pretty when she smiles . Thanks for all the great information Pete. I am glad I found your channel .
Thank you, I'll try to get her to smile more often 🙂
Thanks Pete for sharing. God bless TEXAS and long live the Republic!
I usually make guacamole and then freeze dry it. I use about 30 avocados per 5 large trays. When the crave hits, I just add water.
This is one of my favorite things to freeze dry!
TY! Avocados have come down in price again. $4.99 for 6 at Costco so picked up (5) bundles the other day. TY for showing alllll the steps. And explaining so many things for us newbies to it all. God Bless
Awesome, glad the video was helpful 👍
Great video! Thanks!
As usual, very interesting. I was watching another channel the other day and they didn't put the little "cover" on before they closed the door. They said that Harvest Right doesn't recommend it anymore, but I can't remember the reason why. I thought I would tell you so you can look into it. You and the Mrs. have a great Sunday. Love you guys.
Thanks, Harvest right figured that there was little to no difference in using the insulated pillow door cover plus it will help keep their cost down. I still like using it and I feel that it does make a difference in keeping the cold in the vacuum chamber.
Pete is correct, Harvest Right stopped including the pillows a little over a year ago as they concluded the pillows were not needed and caused more problems than they were worth. I purchased my Harvest Right 16 months ago and there was a card in with the machine that said the same. I use my freeze dryer very frequently and have not had any problems w/o the pillow to include any extended dry times out of the norm. Hope this helps. Cheers!
@@petebeasttexashomesteading Thanks. I would want to use one, too, but I couldn't remember if it was detrimental in any way. 👍🏼
Bummer. I just bought one. My HR didn’t come with one but directions in it say to use it. I thought it weird they don’t sell them in accessories.
Excellent video Pete, I use an old Mexican recipe with cilantro, rotel, fresh red onion, lime juice, diced jalapeno, and a smidgen of milk...👍👍💚🌮
Sounds good I'm hungry ☺️
Thank you Pete! I've never freeze dried avocados before in my Harvest Right. Looked really good, but I would add a little salt 🙂. Avocados are just so expensive these days and may try it if I see them on sale (not likely these days). I frequently debone rotisserie chicken and freeze dry it. In fact, I'm doing that as I'm writing this with another load ready to go in the freezer once this batch is done. I've been purchasing four rotisserie chickens at a time from Costco when we go into town every few weeks or so, take the skin off (too oily to keep on), and freeze dry the meat. You can't beat the price ($5 per chicken) or raise them and process them for that much! We do have our own chickens on our little 5.5 acre plot, but they are egg layers. I freeze dry a lot of eggs. Cheers!
Awesome 👍 and smart move on the chicken. The way things are bring run around this world, there might be some shortages coming soon to a grocery store near you.
I never even thought of trying to freeze dry avocados. I still have about 6-8 more weeks until ours comes in bit this will be on the list if avocado prices don't go through the roof before then.
6-8 weeks? Is yours lay away? Or is it back order?
@@TheNewTestament27 Back ordered. We placed the order about a month ago and was surprised it wasn't longer.
@@sandmanxo i just bought one and was told it would ship 5 days from purchase, but we opted for the white one, or it would take much longer for other colors.
You can get the avocado now, cut it in chunks, freeze it on a cookie sheet, then put in a Ziploc. Then when your machine comes in put the frozen chunks in. When they are done you can put it up in chunks or you can powder and put up. Then just rehydrate when ready to eat.
@@dink4evr A good idea but all 3 freezers we have are jammed full right now. Maybe in a couple of weeks I can do that.
Scored some medium size Haas for .50c each, bought 40. Some were very ripe so may look dark when coming out, but illl have 3 trays slices and 1 tray smooshed chunks.
Very cool. Happy Fathers Day!!
Moved to East Texas this month. 100's this week. Really exciting to see what can be done.
The heat started about a month early here. We don't normally get upper 90s and 100+ until July August.
Thank you!
Did you save the avocado skin and seeds? They make wonderful fabric and yarn dye.
All these years I didn't think you can freeze dry avocado because of their high fat content. Thank you.
Have you ever thought of doing an aquaponics system and homegrown tilapia? It's something I am considering but it will be a year before I am back in The States, hope it's not too late then. Might order seeds now and store them.
Hello I'm new, I enjoyed your video
Thank you. 💖🌺🦋
Hi Yvonne, thank you 😊
You can have a spray bottle of lemon to sprits the tops and store the bottle in the fridge.
On what do you have the tray temperature for the avacado to not get bitter cuz they get from heat?
Pete, have you try growing avocados?, Here, west Houston, so far only one tree is surviving the winters and already 3 years old. Some people say they need to grafted to produce fruits but we'll see.
Thanks for the videos. Does your freeze dryer give you a "pre frozen" option?
It use to with the older software but not with the new software. It's always better and faster if you freeze the food before freeze drying.
@@petebeasttexashomesteading Got it , thanks!
Wow thank you so much for sharing,
Can I use the oven to dry after freezing?
No, putting it in an oven is dehydrating food. This is a freeze dryer that freezes the food in a vacuum chamber, then warms the trays, and the water vapor from the food sticks to the sides of the chamber until the food is completely void of moisture.
@@petebeasttexashomesteading thank you 🙏 I want to make avocado powder for porridge..
It is possible?
I'm curious how many Guac's you used to fill up the 5 trays? They are on sale tomorrow. :)
I think it was 7 or 8 bags of avocados to fill the 5 trays in the freeze dryer. Of course it's going to depend on the size of avocados. We bought them at Costco so they were probably medium sized.
Nice
I have an older freeze drier than yours, and mine never has condensation around the seal. Could yours have a leak? Where did you get your mylar bags?
Hey Pete, I usually add the usual suspects to my guacamole... diced Roma tomatoes, onion, etc. Do you think there's enough moisture in those fresh ingredients, if added to the freeze dried avocado, to reconstitute the avocado? Or would it still require some water? Also, have you tried this with the other ingredients added prior to the freeze dry process? This is all very interesting.
You have to reconstitute the avocados first just like you were making fresh guacamole then add your ingredients. There's just not enough water in the fresh ingredients to reconstitute the freeze dried avocados.
Looks like she's doing all the work! lol!
Fan on the coils helps . Does your machine leak water from the cabinet when thawing ? Asked this question on retired at 40 but haven’t seen a reply. Have a great evening
I think i read in his group that you can put little blocks under the front to tilt it back just a bit and the water will flow out the drain. someone else mentioned it.
i watched someone make avacado powder from the pits not the flesh and add it to food and smoothies for the vitamins?
Wow 😋🙌
My door seal gets s layer of thick frost.
Yep that's because the door seal gets really cold and all the humidity in the room sticks to it.
reason for not vacuum sealing them?
You can vacuum seal them but we didn't want to crush it into a hard clump.
Done some guacamole but not the avocado. Machine is acting up again , going to call tomorrow. Gotten spoiled on running it pretty much non stop
Can avocados be dehydrated?
Probably not because they would become very discolored and dark and not look very appetizing 🙁
@@petebeasttexashomesteading thank, makes very much sense
I can't help myself, do you have a mouse in your pocket because you keep saying "WE" and I see the little woman doing ALL the work.
Plant them seeds
That is NOT guacamole!
