Great video! Love your content! Enjoy your time with Indi!! My Lab mix will turn 14 next month. I rescued him when he was a year old. He’s been my hiking companion and camping buddy until last year. Age and health issues have really slowed him down. We still camp together but I have to make it camping parks to keep the hiking at a minimum. You are so good with your dog! Just found your channel and im so excited!! Im wanting to get into this with my dog 🐕. Can i ask what track is this? Im finding it hard to find tracks in NZ (im in the Taranaki region) that will allow dogs on it.
Hi. It's pretty tricky finding tracks you can take pooches on, you are right. It's the main reason why Indi doesn't come on all of my camps, there just aren't enough spots. A good place to start is the DOC website. If you click on 'walks' and then tick the 'dogs allowed' box it will bring up a map with possible tracks. Not all walks are on there though so it pays to dig deeper. For example half the walks i do don't even register on that page as they are not 'main routes'. There are some website like andthedogcametoo.com can be most helpful, but I find I am usually wanting to do more remote stuff. Generally speaking all National Parks will be a blanket 'no', and so you need to be looking for forest parks instead. On this camp I am in the Craigeburn Forest Park, which is pretty dog friendly. A lot of DOC walks that allow dogs require that you hold a permit with them for your dog first. You can get that very easily by emailing the local office (of the area you want to walk in) and providing the details they ask for (pretty much your details, dog's licence number, microchip details, etc.) Good luck.

Quite limited Sandy. There are a reasonable number of places you can take dogs, more if you obtain a permit from our department of conservation, but the majority are a no go for dogs, including all of our national parks. There might be the odd exception for permitted hunting dogs.
It's tricky when they have the chance of being reactive to something, hey?! It is easy with Indi because she is such a cruiser. She does have one or two quirks though. I can't take her to cafe's as she gets protective and doesn't react nicely to waiters/waitresses approaching us. Eeeeek.
@@adventureot Interesting . Mine was sadly put in a cage for 5 years ,before we rescued her. She is remarkably good natured just hasn't been socialised with other dogs sadly. It's a big ask to socialise them at 7 years almost impossible in a lot of cases. Im so glad your dog has a happy home
