Russ, I MARVEL at your musicianship, your singing, your production, and especially your song choices! Just another incredibly well done song that I've always loved! LOVED it!!!!
Hello Russ....just stumbled to your site. First things first, you have great taste in revisiting the rock and roll music. Reminds me of ........me (lol). You running on all 8 cylinders there with the vocals - harmonies - guitar - keyboard - bass - and drums. Truly a one man band. Don't know your background but assume you were - are a performer. What a talent - much thanks - its inspirational
You've hit another one of my favorites from the 60's! Great job as usual. Another great song that came out in 1969 is Crystal Blue Persuasion (Hint, hint) Thanks and keep them coming! All the best!
Yes!!!!!! Absolutely love this feel good song!! You knocked our if the park Russ! Was worth waiting the extra week! Ha! Great liner notes too. Did you ever see the spiral staircase video? The bass players dance moves are legendary. And he looks just like larry czonka! Thanks again!!!
Okay, I thought this one might be too tough to tame for a guy with such a dominant middle range...but you tore it up. I have loved this song since it's release. Not only did you not disappoint, this is one of the best covers of this song that I have heard.
I am SO happy to have come across your work. As a disenfranchised musician, I admire your skill and tenacity to re-create these treasures. Music is a time machine, and you just took me back to a happy place. Thanks!
Outstanding & flawless. I really enjoyed it Sir. If not bothering could you please do "Lyin' Eyes" from EAGLES? I'd love hearing that one from you...thank you!!!!!
Hey Russ, I just ran across your channel when looking for covers of this great song. Needless to say, I was very impressed with your cool voice and your instrumental versatility.... absolutely stellar!!! You now have a fellow cover RUclipsr "pfillyjohn," (pf, not ph) and a new subscriber. I look forward to checking out more of your videos! Love your song choices and keep 'em coming!
Outstanding - vocals, instrumentation and performance are all top-notch!!! And thanks for the note about the spelling of "Starecase." I never noticed that! But I did notice that later in the same paragraph you spelled it Staircase ("supposedly swiped by Spiral Staircase.") In any case, I totally enjoyed your vid and the very interesting notes about this song and band.
Thanks, Jim. I actually record the audio on a Yamaha AW1600 stand alone DAW, not on the computer. Then I upload the stereo mix down and each video into Movavi video software. So glad you like it!
Thanks so much! As for the kit, it took a lot of tweaking to get it where I want it, and it's still a work in progress. Overall, for the price (about $700) I'm pretty pleased with it. I did have two pads and a cymbal crap out on me, but Alesis sent replacements.
Great music as always, Russ. May I ask what brand of electric drums you use? And how do you like them compared to regular drums? Been debating to buy a set, since my regular ones are annoying the neighbors.. lol
Thanks so much. I'm using an Alesis Command Mesh set. I really like the sounds I get out of them, but because I use them so much I've gone through and have had to replace most of the cymbal pads and a few of the mesh heads. Of course I've heard that no matter what brand it is they do wear out. In a live situation I always use one of my acoustic sets, but when recording or practicing I really like being able to turn on the Alesis' and they sound the exactly the same each time. Besides, they only take up two tracks, whereas an acoustic kit takes up eight or nine.
I'm new to the Russ Willoughby trail of great song covers, and am really impressed! I found his "Love Grows..." first, because I had a hand in that song's production long ago and always want to see what others made of it. Russ does a great job of researching history, composers, etc about every song -- really makes them come to life! And what a great talent Russ has/is! Russ can play everything and sing everything! And record it all! I dream of such abilities for myself but it never happens. This one... what a voice for an old guy! Pat Upton was still singing those high notes late in life, here he sings this song on a Rock n Roll Graffiti TV show (what year?) ruclips.net/video/hiG0ZvcZscI/видео.html I stumbled across Spiral Starecase one summer afternoon in 1969 at Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ and they were missing a guitar player. I said I had a Fender Jazzmaster about a block away, and volunteered. Upton said 'go get it and we'll see if you can play tonight with us'. I did, they did, and I played two gigs in Phoenix area with them. They were from Sacramento at that time. Never saw them again after that weekend!
Hi Dan. I actually used to video you linked to when I was working on my version. The reason I went with that version is because it's in a lower key than the original, which made it easier to sing (not that it was "easy"). How cool that you were able to play Upton and Spiral Starecase.....that had to be really something! As always, many thanks!
Pat Upton would be proud! Great job.
What a nice thought. Many thanks for watching!

Wow, thanks Sy...I appreciate it, as always.
Great job Russ! Thoroughly enjoyed it! Thumbs up from me as usual Brother... Stay safe... Rico
Thanks so much! You stay safe, too! I appreciate it!

Thanks so much, Chris! Yeah, I've been playing for about 51 years now (started at age 7)...so I'm a bit of a dinosaur.

Outstanding & flawless. I really enjoyed it Sir. If not bothering could you please do "Lyin' Eyes" from EAGLES? I'd love hearing that one from you...thank you!!!!!
Many thanks indeed. Sadly, can't do an Eagles tune. They actually hire people to search RUclips for their music, and then have it taken down.
@@russwilloughby501 No problem, Sir...thank you for your kindness...keep safe!
Just superb Russ. 👌
Thank you, Paul; I appreciate it!
There you go again Russ, another great song. Keep on rocking.

Great job, Russ! Agreed, excellent upbeat, feelgood song I'll never get tired of. How do you like that drum kit?

@@russwilloughby501 Thank you, I just got an Alesis Surge, very pleased so far. Thanks for sharing all your vids, keep up the great work.
I know you have done two America songs already but I would love to see you do Sister Golden Hair.
Thanks for the suggestion! It IS a great tune!
Give Hall and Oates a shot...Sara Smile!

Whats it like having a reliable drummer?
Great...but he can be a pain in the ass. Such a needy whiner.
you are awesome
Very nice.
