Erlang doesn't attack you cos he knows you build up charge by getting hit so he just leaves you there walking around slowly, it's not a bug it's genius
@@syrobe there's some theories that Erlang wont attack Azure Dust, but i saw this one is the most correct. "Erlang wont attack you because he disregard the stone that you turn into remind him Rock Monkey - which mean Sun Wukong when he got out of the stone sealed him, that's when he's the weakest"
@@syrobe i mean he's programmed to react differently to any transformation and since all other transformations can dodge he tries to knock you out if it. But since the rock can't dodge and powers up by receiving damage it's pretty much useless if the enemy doesn't attack you that's why he doesn't attack you. I mean you can still do a little damage with the rock buy not as much as you do when he powers up and in Erlang's case it takes his shield which is pretty huge
So in the original Journey to the West novel, Erlang famously dueled with Wukong, and part of their fight involved them transforming into various things to try to gain advantages over the other. During this process the novel shows that Erlang is better at transformation magic than even Wukong, as Erlang is able to fully transform into many things when Wukong couldn't fully get rid of his monkey tail, and instead could only transform the tail into various objects (I think one instance is that when Wukong transformed into a house he hid his tail as a flag pole near the house). So, Erlang beats even full-power Wukong at transformation, so he obviously beats the young monkey at it. Whatever you decide to transform into, he can always counter by transforming into something that is especially against your transformation. This is why he has different transformations during the boss fight that cancels your transformation. For example he transforms into a tiger to cancel your horse transformation, and into a bird to cancel... a few others, I don't fully remember. He comments on this, too, during the boss fight, providing a different voice line for each individual transformation as he counters with his own transformation (I'm not sure if this is in English, but the cn voice lines definitely work). The rock transformation is the only one effectively against him for a couple of reasons (only my speculations; in the original novel, wukong never transformed into a rock anyway so this isn't really a part of the original lore): 1) Wukong IS rock. He's a rock monkey that is just born sentient from a huge boulder, so you could argue that transforming into a rock is like fighting without a transformation. He perhaps kinda respect that. He has more voice lines for the rock transformation than other transformations, and the voice lines seem rather pleased or at least humored by your attempt, saying things like "he's born from a rock, now you want to try that too?" 2) Rock is just... Rock. It's not really especially vulnerable against anything in particular. The rock transformation is immune to the four banes and likes being hit by all attacks. So, perhaps even Erlang doesn't know if anything's particularly good against rock, and the fact he couldn't find a counter to your transformation leaves him a bit dumbfounded for a moment. 3) The rock has to "kneel" when attacking (you can't normally get the jump attack against Erlang since he doesn't attack you to build your meter), and it could just be like a joke that Erlang lets you have an advantage if you decide to kneel and supplicate before him. 4) Lastly, a Doylist explanation: the devs wanted to put into some shortcuts for players who struggle especially, so they programmed him to give you a bit of a leeway if you use rock. This is absolutely a design decision and not a bug as can be seen from his voice line comments and the fact that he removed Erlang vulnerability against frost rather quickly with patches already, while the rock interaction remains in the game.
He has voiceline comments for all transformations so it’s not unique to azure dust. IMO there’s no proof that says it’s intentional so why come up with these theories? The devs aren’t infallible

Wanting to explore and understand the world around us is a natural human instinct in case you're not of the species, and schools educate us to try to use our observations and knowledge to come up with explanations that help us better make sense of the world around us. It is only natural that we want to theorize as to why particular interactions exist between objects in the world, or, in this case, in a beautiful game many of us enjoy within the world. This particular boss fight is also probably the single most important in that game. I am curious about why the interaction exists, and came up with a few theories as to why it might be there. Does this offend you? Why would you want me to not come up with theories about these? If you don't find it interesting, no one is forcing you to read it. You may even leave a "TLDR" like many would, if you find that funny, but asking me why I'm hypothesizing and reminding that that the devs aren't infallible, which I obviously know (who the f think of devs as infallible gods?), is just a very bizarre reaction. I'm not even necessarily saying that you're wrong here, as players probably can never entirely confirm if this interaction is designed or a bug, but for being strangely against theorizing and hypothesizing to explain what we see, you're awfully dull as a person.

I remember hearing that Er Lang doesnt interact with Azure dust bc you are basically „kneeling“ and „begging“ in front of him, and he is kinda showing mercy…kinda disrespecful💀but somehow makes sense
Bro, you don’t understand Azur dust, there’s no way that thing can’t be S tier! You just don’t know how to use it. You’re supposed to transform into him when you’re about to die or you’re very tired and you need a break. Then you put the controller down drink some water get some food maybe hit a few push-ups then cast the spell, do a bunch of damage, put the controller down again, repeat the chill maybe stretch a little bit or crack your fingers. Then cast the spell again and at this point, you’ll probably de-transform and knock the guy over and you get back into the fight. very solid choice against any boss really except for that secret boss you were talking about since he doesn’t attack you. He’s also very good against many enemies at once. Also the reason Homie doesn’t attack you out of it is because it’s resistant to all the banes and the de-transformation de-buffs. The last boss is actually very smart to not attack you when you’re a the Azure he effectively makes it so that when you take your break your just wasting your time since you’ll never charge the spell. I think it was a very intelligent design choice to make one of the harder bosses actually think.
Why don't you make a video for like if you miss some bosses you miss these items in the long run I accidentally missed the scorpion lord boss and now I am facing the consequences 😔
I'm pretty sure the azure dust is not a big because the devs would have fixed it by now and erlang's voice lines make it seem intended. I think it was supposed to be an interesting little gift to discover which would have been amazing in the days before internet guides
whorefrost transformation is the most annoying to me because out of all the minor enemies in chapter 3, that pos is the most durable and annoying one to fight. It was only until my 2nd play through that I got my lick back because of the bull king armor smh

just saying, yellow loong's dive bomb attack only requires 1 focus point, it just does more damage with 3. I prefer to just get my 1 focus point, dive bomb x3, then repeat the whole thing for 6 total dive bombs before exiting transformation
I’m ngl Macaque to me should be B however I’m biased bc I was able to utilize him during erlang and wukongs broken shell and I liked his agility
its not a glitch, there is a reason why you get these two abilities(the worm transformation and the needle) one right after the other
Yellow loongs light attacks do no damage but the dive bombs are op
THis Video came in clutch i was looking for a good video about transformations, game tells you shit about them
Are you playing on ng++?
I guess i was playing the game wrong lol i used red tides then hoarfrost lol.
A new tierlist has dropped!
The only downside of the thunder horse is how much you have to do and how late you get it . Totally missed it on first playthrough
oh and erlang calls you sluggish when you turn into rock bwai. hahaa
The poison transformation should have been a spider or the scorpion lord. Way cooler
I used red tides until I got yellow loong. He’s a legend
never thought I'd hear Syrobe talk about Erlang being.. formcist.. 😭
Macaque should be a low b in my opinion it does great damage but too little might would be a mid b if it had more might because it does good damage but I agree with everything else
My goat
Thank You
I'm only getting 1 dive bomb even with 3 stacks on my yellow loong's focus. am i bugging out or is there some kind of RNG to this? (FYI i didn't miss the guy, he just only does 1 dive bomb ==) HELP
Erlang doesn't attack azur dust he just stand there and mocking
Just a tip but id advise going over your video script a few times before uploading as you tend to repeat yourself a few times.
Do a spirit tier list!!!!
11:30 I am a dumb dumb! I was only pressing triangle and not holding it! 🤦♂
Erlong also makes fun of the rock form🤣
Ok. The Macaque is the BEST transformation and pretty much the only one I use. Just mash L2 and you crush with it. Excuse me, R2
I was with till you put red tides in B tier smh, that transformation carries you through end game lvl
I remember hearing that Er Lang doesnt interact with Azure dust bc you are basically „kneeling“ and „begging“ in front of him, and he is kinda showing mercy…kinda disrespecful💀but somehow makes sense
Hoar frost can stunlock for its entire night bar. Easy A tier.
hey you know thad the macaque transformacion can heal you and wukong upon tranformacion
Never switched from stone monkey since i get it :P
I think it was a very intelligent design choice to make one of the harder bosses actually think.
he tells you why he doesnt attack you, he makes fun of you for being in the stone again and considers you a joke or at least no threat
what move is that at 16:42?? how do u do double fire nova?
Am i the only one do think hoarfrost looks cool?
Why don't you make a video for like if you miss some bosses you miss these items in the long run I accidentally missed the scorpion lord boss and now I am facing the consequences 😔
Hoarfrost let me beat the flying fish by throwing ice from the ground
Finally
I'm pretty sure the azure dust is not a big because the devs would have fixed it by now and erlang's voice lines make it seem intended. I think it was supposed to be an interesting little gift to discover which would have been amazing in the days before internet guides
whorefrost transformation is the most annoying to me because out of all the minor enemies in chapter 3, that pos is the most durable and annoying one to fight. It was only until my 2nd play through that I got my lick back because of the bull king armor smh
The first b tier transformation is worth to be in S tier ngl
Red tides saved me 100 times
Black myths matters!
For me the stone monkey is the best one
lol, i used hoarfrost to kill broken shell my first time. lmao
I believe that Erlang deliberately did not want to attack you during the stone transformation. Because the interaction with the figure after the transformation suggests that he did not consider it worthy enough to attack at all.
Stonemonkey should be s tier
Honestly, putting your eggs in your opponents is kind of sus 🤨
