Rick,
Thanks for another fun episode. You are the Sherlock Holmes of Classic TV!
I actually like the musical version of "Hamlet" and how they used parts of Bizet's opera "Carmen" for some of the numbers.
Also, both Jim Backus & Phil Silvers were featured in the epic comedy "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World."
Viewers, be sure to like, subscribe and comment. It really helps our buddy Rick out!
Be hopeful, Rick!
I can def respect the play itself. It’s not my fave. I liken it to the Lucy Scotland episode with all the singing. But the first act with Silvers is GOLD
@@ricknineg
Hmmm, y'know Rick, I actually never put this GI's episode up against the ILL Scotland episode (which I actually think is the worst of the entire series). I guess the reason would be that the Scotland episode is entirely musicalized; whereas in "The Producer," the musical version of Hamlet is the 2nd act finale. Just my POV...
(thanks for the *pin,* too!)
It is not the same basket. In the earlier episode the basket has a horizontal weave on the longer sides. The basket in the later episode has a diagonal weave pattern on the longer sides.
the weave IS different - later version has"VEGETABLES" on it
you are correct sir.
I'm not convinced it's the same box, the weave in the front seems different, but either way I like that you have your eyes open to these "jewels".
I agree it looks wider
Sorry it's not the same basket, no side handles & the corner post are much larger in the supply hut basket. Rick you might need a pair of glasses if the baskets look the same to you!
I'm glad I'm not the only one that noticed those things. They may be roughly the same size but I'd say that's as far as it goes unless they purposely 'disguised' it. In that case I'd say it's questionable if it was ever supposed to be the same one.
They look totally different 2 me as well.
The basket in the older episode is a herringbone weave. The newer one in the color episode is not!
Exactly, just what I was gonna say. Thats a completely different piece of furniture, whether it's a basket, box, or end table, not even close to being the same one. Thanks, bud.
Love these hidden secrets and finding them out in one of my favorite shows Rick awesome
The weave pattern is different on each one .
The weave pattern?
The way that reeds put together one is strait one is diagonal The first basket is round reed 2nd basket is split reed @@ricknineg
I fell in love with Shakespear because of this episode.
An episode of Gilligans Island has been broadcast everyday since its inception. Sadly there was no contracts back then for profit sharing. So these great actors never gained the money they should have.
Keep up the great videos!!!!!! Make some on The Andy Griffith Show!!!!!😊
The “weave” is totally different.
The two baskets are different sizes, shapes, and materials (rattan v tatami)... and the b/w one has handles... but other than that... they're absolutely identical.
lol
Love the "producer" episode. Phil was AWESOME!
Phil was always the glib, fast talking con man in SGT BLINKO and the movie IT'S A MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD.
Loved Phil playing "Honest John" in several of "The Beverly Hillbillies" TV show.
I'm sorry it doesn't' look like the same basket The basket in the early episode looks like a basket that was purchased at the store, it even has a loop handle the other basket looks totally different
The basket doesn’t even have handles 🙄
Yes have to agree with others that it is not the same basket. The older one even has handles on the ends of the basket and just so many things that look different. Do you have a source that says the basket is the same in both of those episodes? Usually you are pretty on point but think you missed it on this one. I do like your choice of shows they are the ones i like the most to watch.
I've seen both and never really noticed that that it was the same basket.
It’s always cool to notice things that aren’t the most obvious to see with these old shows, particularly Gilligan’s Island. Thank you for the video Rick, I hope you’re doing well. Keep up the great work and have a great day!
Baskets are not even close.
On the old episode there's a ring on the sides of the basket (3:44). Those aren't there on the newer episode. I guess they could have taken those rings off, but it doesn't look like there's a mark where the ring was.
Gillian island Batman hogan hero’s favourite shows
When a show is in production any props used get inventoried and stored except ones used every show so it’s not unusual to see reused props in later episodes specially if the production paid a lot for it. I remember one fairly large prop in Star Trek TNG that was basically a big type shape with neon lights that flashed in sequence, anyway it was seen in 3 or 4 different episodes then it was seen in some of the subsequent iterations of Star Trek.
Am I the only one who thinks that the Howells carried an astounding amount of clothes for a 3-hour tour or how the batteries in the radio lasted?
The Professor recarged the rechargabke batteries with seawater. Obviously the Howells were going on a yacht vacation but got to the dock early. With 3 hours to kill, they went on a 3 hour tour
@@lazyhomebody1356 rechargeable batteries were not available in the '60s, only dry-cell that could not be recharged.
@@EarthboundMisfit1274 Well, the Professor managed to recharge them! It was mentioned a few times
Another fun fact Gladtoseeyou pronounced (Glad To See You) Productions was owned by Phil Silvers which produced Gilligen’s Island. So as a producer, he wasn’t acting…😂!
Have a great day!
Your attention to detail always amazes me. You do an outstanding job as always! Thank you very much. 🧡🧡
Well, bye bye birdie! 🦜Good video and as a result of watching this, now I’m curious to know what other props that were reused that we weren’t aware of the first time around. You have the gift of bringing new light to these classic shows, thus allowing rewatching to be so enjoyable! Thank you for that! 😁
🦜
Both great episodes but the producer was boss on this one its what we think of when someone mentions PRODUCER
I Loved both episodes, Phil was Great as the Producer. waiting for your next video. God Bless and take care Rick.
Have you ever noticed that the episodes with the mad doctor, one episode he is a man, the other he is a monkey and they are almost dressed the same. Did the doctor turn the man into a monkey or vice versa 😅 . I just noticed this myself. Thought you might want to do a episode about it, if you haven't already.
I love Gilligan's Island but The Producer is one of my least favorite episodes. Thanks for the video, Rick! Keep'em coming!
DON’T agree with you about the basket; DO agree with you about the episode preferences.
I hate to say it but the Hamlet music gets stuck in my head pretty easy when I watch the episode. 😂
It’s very repetitive and silly 😂
WHAT?
This reminds me of 2 episodes of the Homeymooners, where Ralph finds a briefcase on one of his busses and it turns out to have counterfit money in it. They reused that briefcase in another episode where he needed to or thought he needed to leave town.
You have an insanely fine eye for tiny details, Rick!
I wonder if that parrot is still alive today?
😊😊😊😊😊
Who said TV was stupid?
Wow
I'm not a big fan of The Producer. Phil Silvers is so obnoxious that he dwarfs our favorite castaways. I just don't like it.
I didn't see any thing just the words Gilligan's Island and a still photo of that word over an island the whole time you spoke so this makes me not want to watch your videos it's like listening to a radio show about a TV episode kinda Lame...
I really hated this show for so many reasons. Ugh! I can't even watch this whole video!
Not so fast! As you put it, "if you pay attention to [the thatched basket] behind the professor" you will see that it is nothing like the thatch basket that Gilligan is carrying.
@3:37 The bamboo edges are not the same size (they are larger on the basket behind the professor). Plus the one that Gilligan is carrying has wrapped corners with what looks like rattan while the one behind the professor is just bare bamboo. Also, the thatching done on the facing side of the basket that Gilligan is carrying is woven horizontally over vertical bamboo slats while the one behind the professor is done with a cross weave herring bone pattern with no slats on the facing side with vertical weaving over horizontal slats on the side as clearly seen @1:45. And don't get me going about the rope on the corners, the missing round handle, or the darker color.
Yes, you are correct. The baskets are very different.
I don't think it's the same basket either. It may be the same dimensions, but the pattern and thickness of the weaves on the sides don't match, nor do the corners come close to being the same. The one Gilligan is holding has much narrower material on the corners.
Doesn't look like the same basket at all
That's quite the wardrobe for a 3-hour cruise.
They had it all
Sorry dude, but I do not think that is the same basket at all. Look at the pattern and the missing handles, not the same basket. The weave on the long sides of the old one is diagnal 45 degrees, the pattern on the new one is square, up and down 90 degrees. If you look at the short sides/ends, one has round handles the other does not. You can remove the handles but the weave pattern gives it away. Lastly, the corner supports, on the old one, the corner vertical supports are weaved over, on the new one it is bare bamboo.
Same size and dimensions. These are stranded people on an island. If a handle breaks, you redo it and change both so that it matches the style. Some baskets have different weaving based on the sides and angles you are looking at. People need a bit of imagination
I'll have to apologize, again, for this "blooper". I was working some overtime hours in the prop department. My main job was building the fake palm trees used on the island set, as well as some of the huts and furniture needed for various episodes. I had built a basket/storage prop, for this episode. But, clumsy Bob Denver, accidentally destroyed the prop, that I had built out of supplies I got from the dollar store. I had to think fast to either rebuild the prop, or repurpose the basket used in the black and white earlier episode. Rick is correct. The basket is the same prop. I added parts from the prop "drunken Bob Denver" accidentally destroyed. That's why the basket looks slightly different.
Fun fact: the basket was later used to capture one of the escaped monkees that was used to write the scripts for "The Jefferson's".
True story.😂
Great supposition but I don't think it's the same basket.. If you look closely, the weaves don't match Still gave the video a LIKE however!
No your wrong this is not the same, the parrot basket is longer and wrong color
You’re joking right? The parrot episode is literally in black and white. How can you tell the color? That was a good one! 😆
Keep THIS kind of FAKE stuff up and I PROBABLY will HaVe tO UNSUBSCRIBE . Not the same basket at all dude. Nice try.
Yeah, I saw the Twilight Zone episide with the house Rick said was the same as the Beverly Hillbillies House/shack, and it is def NOT the same house
The funniest episode of the series!
It’s pretty hilarious! Santa Lucia!
I may have found a blooper at the 1:31 mark. The abalone shells on two of the posts at the top of the screen appear too large to be the shells of disc abalones (native to Hawaii, maximum size 5.9 inches). They're large enough to be the shells of red abalones, which are native to California and Oregon (maximum size 12 inches). Is there a conchologist who can help us out here?
Can you confirm if the series had THREE different theme songs? I read elsewhere that in the original broadcast run, Season 3 had a slightly different theme song that had a more "militant" sound to it. It remained in syndication until the 1980s when it was for some reason replaced with the Season 2 theme, which is what we hear today, including on the DVDs.
Hi I didn’t know a great place to put this that would get input - The Love Boat S8E2 (first part of Copenhagen cruise) at 19:20 I’m pretty sure they have Gilligan’s outfit in a display case.
❤
@ricknineg, speaking of Phil Silvers, have you ever done episodes on Sgt Bilko?
⛵Rick Nineg, Phil Slivers was also in Marilyn Monroes final unfinished film Something's Got To Give from 1962 just a couple years after this episode of Gilligan's Island aired! 🏝🥥🛥🎥P.S. in 2000 then state of the art technology was used to restore and remaster the best takes that were shot and aired in a 37 minute fragment on American Movie Classics on the 1st of June 2001 as a celebration of what would have been Marilyn's 75th birthday. The fragment was part of a two-hour documentary entitled Marilyn: The Final Days. 📺🎬
Considering that they probably had all these props with such a specific look I'd hope they'd use them multiple times. After all a couch from the 1960s wouldn't fit well into a hut from a tropical island. Or as my dad use to like to say.... It came from central casting.
Love the show.
I love Rick, and yes Hamlet is my favorite! 😊
Of course they refused different things in multiple episodes. It's because they had limited resources on the island.
Exactly! Plus, in the island universe, who knows all the alterations that could be made to the basket
A basket case? ")
A big basket case
Never noticed it. Thanks Rick. I liked both episodes.
Never cared for Silvers. He always made me disinterested in what I was watching when he showed up on screen.
So of course I don't like this episode. My favorite episodes are the ones with "tech" in them, like the robot.
People can def either like him or hate him. Totally get it
I remember both episodes and Gilligan's Island was 1 of my favs as a kid. It's hard 2 pick a best episode but I really loved da mad scientist 1. Where they all were in different bodies 😂😂😂
I love when you point out these little tidbits!!! You got me checking the little things in episodes more and more!!! 😅
Both episodes are good. Not so much of a Phil Sivers fan but it was still an enjoyable episode. Good catch!!
I've got all three seasons on DVD, but I don't pay any attention to these things.
I would have to choose the Producer episode, Silvers is a legend of comedy! Stay awesome Rick!
Not the same basket my friend ......the bamboo frame is thicker on the later one.......and the thatch is finer on the black and white one......very obviously differrent
The frame may appear larger….as I mentioned because they had to reinforce it. The island was rampant with erosion causing storms in almost every other episode
@@ricknineg or it may apper larger because it's a different basket
You must have driven your teachers crazy 😂@@ricknineg
Sooooo there is only 1 basket on the island? I am impressed by the perfect dimension of the basket.
