    To think we used to get all this entertainment for free!! Those SF 37s with black headcode split boxes were my favourite....they were always filthy and looked amazing! I used to wonder why SF used to shine up their 47s and Toffee apples but never did a Tractor with a silver roof!

      There was a bit of personal pride with some depots and their locos, as you say Stratford well known for their embellishments.

    Ahh the old Redlands self discharging train.... brings back fond memories of when I used to park up my BT van at lunchtime and watch the train pull in, or be discharging at Leagrave plant in Luton.... Thanks for uploading Darren

      Yes, it was a regular site between Mountsorrel and the Home Counties - a real shame they had that issue with it that seemed to kill it off as I would have thought there was still a use for it these days. Thanks.

      @@MrDeltic15 I can even remember it being featured on an episode of "Tomorrow's World" when it was being introduced as it was being promoted due to how you could off-load anywhere that had a siding, and would cut down the unloading times at their plants... shame that one particular accident sealed its fait. I agree, I still feel something similar would still be in demand if it was still around.

    Great footage there.
    The only thing that's missing is that we don't get to see the whole train in a number of cases... which is really useful to railway modellers like me.

    • @MrDeltic15
      @MrDeltic15  4 года назад

      If only I could turn back time, but being a kid(well, teenager!)back then my videography and photography skills weren't what they are today, but why I didn't film the whole train I don't know - although my Dad did some of the filming too so it's not just me :-) Things do improve as time goes on though so you can see whole train consists.

    hello, i'd like to ask something. what are the meaning of those number on trains?

    • @richardharvey7208
      @richardharvey7208 2 года назад

      Hi the first two digits are for the class ie 37 is for a class 37 the last three are the serial individual number, also the last three can denote the subclass ie 37425 this being an electric train modification for passenger work. Just pump in to Google and Wikipedia’s pages will enlighten you hope that help Richard

    Wonderful walk down memory lane Darren. All those lovely 'underpowered & unreliable' BR locos - reliably hauling lots of freight! Fantastic variety of freight too and lovely to hear a Valenta screaming in the background too. Did you ever film anything on the flyash loop line, as I don't recall ever seeing any film from there?

    • @MrDeltic15
      @MrDeltic15  4 года назад

      Thanks Andy. Yep, mixed loco traction and mixed wagon consists, these were the days! There will be some screaming ECML Valenta action to follow at some point...……. I never did film on the Fletton Flyash loop, but watched a great video with that in the other day - look for "Trains At Peterborough - 1984" by Roy Harrison, the thumbnail is of a Class 58 at the terminal.
