  • Ed has been doing this in his live solo for as long as I can remember. Not super difficult but sounds killer. He uses this technique in different ways in several VH songs, so it's worth knowing.
    AxeFx II direct into Logic.

Thanks! AxeFx is the greatest thing ever. You can create every tone you can imagine. I'm still blown away by what it can do.

Part of it is my tone but also it's doing it for years and it being part of my playing dna. The gain on the amp and your pickup type and the relationship of the pickup height to the string for optimum sustain is part of it too. I'm not loud at all, in fact this is direct into the computer from the axefx although I did monitor, but at low volume. Some guitars just do not do that harmonic as well for whatever reason.

Thanks! Any chance of doing a vid of some of the parts you learned? I love Ed's live solo and would love to see how someone else does his solo pieces.

I went through this lesson and was able to get the basics down. Thanks! Do you take lesson/tutorial requests by any chance?

Hey there! I loved this lesson! Do you take EVH tutorial requests by any chance?

Thanks! Just don't have the time to commit to doing a lot of these. Whatever you are looking for I'm sure there are some great lessons on youtube. There's tons of people way better than me doing some great teaching on here.

You do great tutorials and believe it or not, the section from Eddies live solo that I am trying to learn has not one instructional vid on the net. So, if you change your mind, please let me know. Thanks!

That is a natural harmonic just short of the 3rd fret on the g string. I'm not fretting the note, just playing the natural harmonic on the open string at that spot. There's a sweet spot there that you have to hit just right to get it. It's the same hi squeal harmonic satriani does but he does his by the bridge pickup. it's easier for me to do it with my left hand. One of my secret weapons...everybody always loves that squeal.

Any tabs out there to get a clearer picture of were you are tapping and when you change notes

Nice video! How'd you hit that harmonic at around 1:08?

How do you get that harmonic so easy? Is it just because you're turned up loud? When I try it, it cuts out really quickly.
