yep if mortor is shooting stay away from the enemy.

so, for the upgrade you have to continuously direct the sentry. If you do anything else, the mark will drop and it will just shell whatever it wants
Guiding works best on fixed positions. bug holes and breaches, bot drops, turrets, etc. But keep the POI active.

Can you set multiple targets and let it run through them? I had fun marking a strider and watching it get shelled.

Do you mark the target right when the mortar is dropped or after it is dropped and deployed?

I didn't test for bug holes but with how bad the accuracy is I don't think it'll destroy them but it could tho which is nice :)

A lot of the times when I was marking enemies the mortar was too far away but the targeting does work
