Quick PSA. In missions that you have to carry the SSD, if you pick it up while using the SMG and ballistic shield, you will drop the shield. But if you pick it up with the support weapon, your ballistic shield stays on your back.

@@RepublicofODLUM If you play with the ballistic shield for only one round, you will immediately notice, that it gets dropped, when you pick something up while holding it (e.g. SSSD or SEAF shell). If you then have a single braincell to spare, you try to put it away, since with every other backpack, you can store it alongside your support weapon.

So yes, it's obvious. The definition of it in fact.

The laser melts factory strider's bellies. You don't need to waste time with all those eagles.
Tbf they also die from an orbital precision strike and an eagle airstrike.

@DapimpBDSD yeah but you don't necessarily need a 500kg for bots. Airstrikes are a lot more versatile, plus juggling the cds of two eagles can be a little annoying.
So bringing airstrike and precision strike imo is better, cause both are great for groups, objectives, and heavies considering an airstrike can kill hulks and using both kills a factory strider. The precision strikes cd is relatively low and airstrikes have more charges than 500's.
The laser cannon can destroy Mortars and Anti-Air emplacements in a couple seconds even without hitting the weakspots, so you don't have to wait for your eagles, or even use one at all.

I've been using this loadout for a long time with the AMR, switched to the LC since it got buffed back at the start of May, and switched to the pummeler since the PP warbond came out. The AMR definitely has higher burst and sustained DPS while there is ammo, but there are benefits to the LC over it too. There are a few notes here that I think are important.
1) The Pummeler is not a long range weapon and has a significant damage/accuracy drop off past 30m. You really need to play aggressive and up close with it, using the shield to get close enough. Crouch to reduce sway and you can take out Devastators and Heavy Devastators easily. Rockets and Berserkers will be your bane.
2) LC can very easily destroy anything with a vent - Mortars, Anti-Airs, Tanks, Hulks and Cannon Towers all get taken down in ~3s of sustained fire. Tanks are easy if you are close as you can just climb on top to get access to the vent.
3) LC can rip apart the Factory Striders if you can take out the chin guns and get underneath. 5-6s to kill one from full, just gotta be careful of the devastator drop, which is where the shield comes in.
4) LC takes down gunships faster than the AMR can.
Overall, I think the AMR will be better for solo play where the ammo won't be a concern, but in group play where you have some friends to take a bit of the heat, the LC shines a lot.
Try not ADS with the lazer cannon. You can see way more.

The Pummeler is a stun-thrower; if you have to engage a group, don't focus on a singular enemy. Tag a group to stun the lot of them, then follow up with more accurate subsequent shots; three headshots kills a devastator. Also, versus the heavdevs, hitting their foot is sometimes the best way to apply the initial stun. I love the Laser Cannon, though wish the ads scope was good.
3:30 I agree. If it impacts the dome of whatever, it should eliminate the heavies, be it a BT or factory strider. On another note, been loving your videos man. I might just start using the laser cannon again after seeing you shred the bots

Shield was underutilized when running from enemies and while fighting devastators up close.
Laser Cannon can kill factory striders to their eye if you want to "snipe" from cover. It also kills turrets and gunships much faster than the AMR, but the AMR's stagger makes it safer versus rocket devastators.
The stagger on the Pummeler is fantastic for berserkers. It doesn't come into play on devastators as you saw, but the low recoil makes it easier to land those two lethal shots to their heads.
Yeah I agree. I don’t love the ballistic shield but it was barely used.
Laser is really great for some stuff but you gotta be careful using it solo simply because of rocket devastator rag dolling.
I think you really need a team to fully utilize the ballistic shield though. You can take the aggro for the team, but you need support to take out lots of stuff. Or you gotta be sneaky.
Saying it kills "much faster" than the AMR is dishonest. If you're accurate and quick with your shots, the AMR is just as fast in my experience.

I believe it kills fastest to the "joints" on the legs, which other weapons don't really damage, except queso I think.

the laser canon is so good for killing devestators since its so precise, aim at its head and hold the trigger for like 2 seconds then watch it drop
weakspots for factory strider:
Belly (where the devastators drop from)
knees
"eye" the red spot on the head, plus a narrow band going across the whole front of the head.
"butt" don't remember if you need to strip part of the armour for this one
"neck" the neck joint is also vulnerable iirc.
if you can take out the miniguns and the Strider isn't surrounded in bots you can generally kill it with your support weapon, or even your primary if you've got medium pen. usually the belly is the best place to shoot as it is very poorly armoured and kills the strider very quickly (2 mags from JAR-5, less than a full heatsink from the Laser Cannon)
I would 100% use the counter sniper here to get rid of rocket devastators quickly, only pushing in with the Senator when needed. Great vid!

Pretty sure you can use pummeler to shoot any devastator and even if it missed their head it'll still stun them like a stun grenade would, even heavy dev will get stunned and lower their shield. gonna try this too, was sleeping on the laser cannon power
Pummeler works best on devestators at mid to close range and with burst fire going for headshots. At distance the dmg seems to drop off too fast.
I love that the laser cannon kills tanks and buildings like mortars and cannon towers super fast, but I agree that it is too long ttk vs devestators (which is why I think panda was recommending using the pummeler). But anything with a heatsink will get destroyed by the laser cannon in just a few moments.

With the Laser, aim for the small robots' heads. As for the devastators, aim for the heads
It has a 2 second kill on heavy, shield and normal devastators. the issue is getting the beam constant. You can also kill factory striders with a constant beam to the face as well as gunships (hit an engine, steady 3 sec and you kill it...this is easier said than done). You can also hit objectives. Like the destroy dropship, mortar or AA turrets with this thing at a comfortable 200 meters away. Can't destroy the flying reinforcement ships. You can also kill Hulks by beaming their red face plate. But it does require a steady aim
My brother's been using a shield, SMG, grenade pistol build for a while and he's found its ammunition capacity to be a major limiting factor. The laser cannon is definitely a good remedy for that problem. Obviously if you're a sniping god you'd have better luck with the AMR, but for those of us who aren't, I think the laser is the way to go.
I love this exact setup, 4rd person is much better for the lazer cannon, the 1rst person just sucks for visibility

The invisible wall you encountered is because of the high rocks. They made a patch that prevents you from landing on the tall rocks/structures that don't crumble when hit, so you won't be able to steer past them

The only time I didn't mind being ragdolled is when a bunch of rockets threw me in the pelican during extraction

Want to try an HMG loadout? I wrote it off after I tried it for the first time against bots, but after watching some vids about it, I realized I was using it wrong. It's more useful as a heavy killer / when you need things dead fast.
You can kill things super quickly as long as you hit the weak spots (Hulk eyes, Tank turret vents, Factory Strider Bellies, etc..), and still does good damage when you don't. I've been able to shred groups of berserkers with the HMG.
If you do try this, I'd recommend armor that reduces recoil when crouched + stun grenades to make it easy to target weak spots / reload.
What I find that sets the HMG apart (besides raw DPS) from AMR / Auto Cannon is that you have the option to unload if you're in a panic, and guide the recoil into the bot's weak spot.

Explosions are the bane of ballistic shield builds. Honestly, running the med armor with blast resistance, and using the heart booster, I can take massive damage before going down
"I hate being ragdolled" is what happens when you don't deal with those devestators, at least the shield stops those heavy devs
The Pummeler and shield with the AMR is my preference. One thing I was having good luck with; If I couldn't kill shield devastators with a few shots, but managed to stagger them, Id quickly swap to the amr to take em down while they are stunned. using the same trick with the rocket devastators, but trying to duck around cover if there are multiples or just straight up use the AMR on them. Striders can be made trivial by using the grenade pistol while behind the shield. Most of the time I can 1 shot them. but sometimes it hits funny and takes a couple. But I'd only do that over swapping to the AMR if there was a lot of enemy fire coming in.
I had the same problems with the laser cannon. Getting quick enough kills to not get a rocket to the face was kind of challenging.
You can use the laser cannon to wreck the factory strider by shooting the face weakspot, it's relatively quick
this was tough to watch.. reminded me why I use the shield gen and AMR on bots LOL
probably been commented before but the yellow eye on the strider is the best weakspot, its just very small. laser cannon is also the best thing for hitting it.

Scythe, Dagger, and Laser Cannon. Essentially infinite ammo if managed properly.
Any armor set, but I tend to run railgun and orbital precision to deal with hulks and chargers, and striders and bile titans. 500 kilo is great but the orbital precision is under utilized.

I think it goes "SMG + ballistic shield + AMR", OR "Diligence CS/Scorcher/Dominator etc + shield generator + LAS cannon". Mixing and matching just doesn't work as well (although AMR works better with the second loadout than LAS cannon does with the ballistic shield)
For devastators use shield and go close to headshot them, you'll have a problem only with rocket variant. SMG is really for in your face kills 🛡️

Casually running by Super Samples without even looking at them might be the biggest flex in Helldivers.
I don't think you dropped your shield once when ragdolled. Did something change? Or is it the explosive resistance?
I typically use the railgun on my cc tank build. And yeah, it performs better in team play, as the stagger on the pummeller makes rocket devastators easier to bring down. I can shoot them in the abdomen to stop them from firing long enough for a teammate with a more powerful weapon to get free headshots. Sort of like the Stun Grenade against Hulks. You just trivialize them if you're coordinating. Railgun has a better upfront damage lowering time to kill on threats so I don't have to expose myself long. It gives me a tool to take out rocket devastators if I don't have a teammate close by to handle it themselves.
A part of me also wishes the Laser Cannon was distinguished from the other laser weapons by having increasing damage the hotter it gets. Like the Void Ray in SC2.

Only change I would probably make would be armor to something with servo-assisted, but otherwise this has been what I've been using most of, if not all the time.
I wonder if instead of the SMG/BShield (which is great for most med/small bots) you bring the DCS/Shield pack which makes you much better at handling Devastators of all types.

The constant Ragdolling from rockets 200m away when you're playing smart behind cover is the biggest bs vs bots. Major fun killer.
i want to love the laser cannon but the TTK is so bad I can’t justify bringing it. Everything it does is done better by the AMR except the infinite ammo thing, which is a non-issue even in group play if you’re using your primary regularly. I would MUCH rather have the stagger on the AMR, AC, or even HMG over the theoretically infinite ammo.
Honestly same it’s kill time is trash, autocannon does the job so much better.
Laser cannon can destroy factory strider heads at the eye and it destroys mortar and aa turrets from any side.

haha yea i been getting smoked by invisible rocket devastators, shield guys, regular assault raiders, factory striders, hulks.. then when i go to fight bugs there’s like 3x more of them 😂😂 it’s fun but i love fighting bots a lot more

"It takes too long to kill hulks tho." Literally kills hulks in less time than it takes to charge a queso, and will kill several more while a queso is on cooldown. I always ran laser cannon with sickle for full unlimited ammo, and you can swap between them and basically never stop firing. It's a solid build, and likely still better than this one. You just run the regular shield instead of ballistic. Can still run heavy armor if you want. Honestly running the regular shield and practically any primary you want is good with laser cannon cause it's super versatile. Best other stratagems are air strike and precision for the record, as they can one shot striders (not always, but usually 2 if not). 500kg sucks on bots and often takes more than 2 to kill a strider.
I’m way less experienced than you, but I do suggest using cover as you retreat instead of letting rocket devastators send you flying over and over. I usually don’t have a problem with rocket devastators just because I hide from them so much and target them so heavily.
Also, smoke helps with escapes, pushing outposts, and objectives. Don’t sleep on smoke. Smoke will change your life. Use. Smoke.

Yeah - I guess I'm with SPIKED on this one. Laser canon just makes for sense, for me, with the shield generator pack, because you need to expose yourself for some time, to get the shots in. 🤷♂️

This is my exact load out for the longest time but with an AMR.
I think Orbital Precision would be better than 500kg, they have similar AoE, it won't have shared CD with the Airstrike so you won't find yourself "naked" during rearming either. Plus I think Precision gives a pretty high burst power, when used on top of an Airstrike it can delete a Factory Strider.
And if going with AMR, the recoil armor won't be as important I believe, with a ServoAssisted one, it's possible to stay at very long range all the time
I think you are still selling the laser cannon short. It can easily melt any bot unit, including factory striders. As long as you manage the heat, you can use it as your primary weapon for an entire bot mission. It can also quickly kill mortar turrets, so you don't need to waste eagles on them.
I think the ballistic shield/smg combo dragged you down in this game. I suggest using the energy shield instead. It saves you from getting ragdolled and flinched as much so you can maintain your laser aim. Then instead of the smg, take the plasma punisher to stunlock and clear big groups of devastators or berserkers.
I'm just gonna say it, because no one else is mentioning it. You can kill a strider with one full charge from the laser cannon. Shot the belly where the devs come out Technically, 2 charges. because you need the rip off for mini guns and I'm at 5:44 in the video I'll correct my comment if you bring it up

for the ground strides You can one hit them with the grenade pistol Hit the left or right panel and the splash will go behind and kill the driver

I love this setup and use it until difficulty level 7. I feel like there just too many explosions beyond this, rendering the shield almost useless. But using it to come up close and personal with devs and heavy devs is just pure dopamine
Enforcer armor is my best for bots. 129 armor so it's medium-husky, and has the explosive resistance

Id think pre nerfed erupter, shield gen pack and that lasergun could make a pretty good loadout, i just Love using the Diligance Counter sniper for both, its sooooo good for all those devastators

If you have a free 500 i just think you have so much more potential if you bring another stratagem. Its basically like having 5 available.
I play Helldive bots and pretty much nothing else. I use Sickle, Grenade Pistol, Stun Grenade, Laser Cannon, and Jetpack. Also, Infiltrator armor only (on big map missions).
Laser cannon to the strider belly melts it. Be brave.

Pretty much every time you were having trouble, it was because you were trying to use the laser cannon as a primary.
Also, you mixed up the Knight and the Defender at the end of the video. You'd have a much better idea of why the pummeler is better if there were more berzerkers.

Yeah. The rocket devastators are pure cancer. But at least the devs has addressed this already and said they’re probably going to limit the number of rockets each devastator has. And it is sorely needed too. Because there simply isn’t any recourse against half a dozen rocket devastators, you will be perpetually ragdolled into oblivion with not half a second to actually figure out a way to deal with them. I think the pure fact that fighting the automatons feels so non-skill based is why so many people prefer bugs. Like there just little to nothing you can do against the bots at some point, no matter how good you are.
I don’t think the fortified perk is required, it’s definitely good but I will never leave my enforcer helmet + dynamo fashion and servo assisted is always useful
I can't play without servo assisted anymore, the longer range is too deeply buried into my muscle memory.
It feels like Ragdoll physics are broken.
You know you can kill a factory strider without a 500, just use the laser canon
So if you treat the Laser Cannon as a sniper rifle you'll have better luck with it. The laser cannon really shouldn't be used in close quarters as it will wobble ALOT and hit anywhere BUT the spot you're aiming. To make your life easier drop one of the eagles and use the stationary shield generator. It'll let you decimate every bot within miles cause of the crazy range on the laser cannon.

This game's jank is uncommon in my experience, but always funny.
for me, heavy armor + pummeler SMG + revolver + railgun (unsafe mode) + stun nade = automaton killer...

You can easily run the laser cannon, AMR, or Autocannon with this one, and it's super effective at fighting through bots on solo Helldive.
I think this loadout would be a lot better on a map without such long LoS. You cant compete with rocket spam at that kind of distance
You take the vitality booster...not stamina.
This booster gives you the biggest hp boost in the game and paired with a ballistic shield + any fortified armour you become almost indestructible Vs bots.
The ballistic can block anything, including tank shells and 500kg bombs and the reason no one uses it is a mystery to me as it's god tier for bots
Would one-shotting a strider with 500kg direct hits make the game too easy? Debatable! What’s for sure though is that the corresponding elite on the bug side is the BT and it speaks for the inconsistency in difficulty between the two factions.
The loadout you tried here is very much a group loadout, and it is very much not adapted to your playstyle. The laser canon weaknesses are devastators and striders. The grenade pistol covers the striders. The shield and smg covers the devastators, but they're still lacking against rocket devastators.
A better solution for you would be to use a dominator, plasma punisher, explosive crossbow, eruptor, or diligence CS. And take an energy shield or static shield instead of the shield backpack. This way you have something to peak long enough to kill an enemy or many with the static shield.
The laser canon is what you use against small bots and heavies. Your primary is used against devastators. And grenade pistol against striders.
BTW for the strider you could have hit the eye or the underbelly with the laser canon instead of throwing away two 500kg bomb.
The laser canon doesn't play like your usual support weapon. As I wrote, it's for light and heavies, and you use the primary for medium. You need to rely on covers a bit like with the railgun or quasar. And as you noticed, you need to stay on target. That's a weakness against devastators, but it's a strength against heavies when other weapons need several shots and account for recoil. It shines against gunships. No ammo, obviously, and the beam makes it easy to correct your aim.
i m new to the game and when i paly on dificult 5 i cant bring 4 stratagems with me, some one can explain me why an how is he in dificulty 9 and can bring 4?
