Cheers Dave. 2024 has been an interesting year - but I’m hoping 2025 will be more creative and less gear talk. Now… if I have a camera problem you must have a tent one 😂
Changing brands will Absolutely change your photography if what you're using is frustrating and not giving you the results you desire. I recently dumped all my Fujifilm for OM Systems and the joy is back, not to mention the image quality
I think it will definitely change your photography… in some cases make it more enjoyable. But.., if you do it all of the time (ie chasing rainbows 🌈) it can become a distraction. I’m with you on the Fuji > Om switch though
Some great reflections, Jason. I think the M43 / full frame combination is definitely a winner. Let’s hold each other to (GAS) account in 2025! Looking forward to the new year and some time to really get to know my consistent setup - and seeing & hearing your thoughts on the photographic approach.
Thanks Jason, very interesting video. I was a M43 shooter for many years but sold it all during/just after covid and bought in to the Lumix S5. For some reason I was not happy with the S5, so sold it at the start of 2024 and went back to M43, buying the OM5 and then the OM1-II. I also bought lots of glass to go with it, but as good as the OM1-II is.... brilliant AF, good computational features (Live ND, Live GND, Live Time, Live Bulb etc) I was never really happy and I ended up going back to Nikon (which I had before going M43) and the Z8. For some reason this just fits my hands better and I love the ergonomics. I've since sold the OM1-II and now all I get on RUclips are people buying in to the OM1/OM1-II cameras! Oh well, good luck with it, they ARE great cameras, but for some reason it didn't suit me. Still have my OM5 but like you, the build quality is always back of my mind! Looking forward to more photo-centric videos in 2025. Happy new Year!
Thanks for your feedback - you’ve got me worried now 😂 I have to admit that I’m not fully taken with the computational features at the moment but do love the size of the complete system. I plan to use the S1R a lot as well and love that camera - even if it is a tad heavy!
I absolutely hate this statement. People improve and our tools must also improve to keep up with out demands. I switched from Nikon (used Nikon for 2 years) to Canon because Nikon's terribly long flange distance made it frustratingly hard to find and adapt vintage lenses as well as other lenses from other systems, Nikon's *meh* color science made it so that it takes me days to finish editing and processing my photos (I shoot events so I take hundreds of photos) as well as outdated video capabilities made it very annoying to shoot videos. Switching to Canon fixed all of these issues, and made photography more enjoyable as a result. After using Canon for almost a year, my photography game had stepped up a lot and now considering switching to Olympus, because of their amazing stabilization, weather sealing and small lenses (large APSC lenses are a pain).
I think I was really talking about short term switching… ie four different systems in a year. There is nothing wrong with long term changes of gear. I was a canon user for years and left because their mirrorless underwhelmed me. Switched to Nikon and, like you, hated the colour science.
I am sorry. My first video of yours, and I got through 70% of the video.... I had to stop because I think you have a problem. You obviously take good photos regardless of the gear. Seriously thinking an intervention is needed. My advise on all this is... buy cameras to solve a problem or inspire creativity... but don't use buying a camera as an excuse to create a problem or distract from creativity.
Damn man, the local camera shop must see you coming.
😂 I never go to a camera shop - too risky
Interesting subject. Jason. Its been a great year on your channel. Your hunt for the perfect camera is like my hunt for tents. Any spare cameras? 😂😂

Deal! I’m also looking forward to getting more creative in 2025 and spending less time thinking about gear.

I'm confused now. Is it the fujifilm slippery slope or cycle?
🤷

Yep. Buying gear can create problems.
