Nott to be "that guy" but am I the only one who notices the English dub removes so many instances of punishment/remorse for 'bad' actions? That's kinda weird, don't you think
To me it seems like the dub removes any instances of grey morality. I mean, it’s the basic premise of any kids show. Black and white logic. The protagonist is always good, no matter what. 4kids probably tried to find a way to make GX S4 black and white but it was impossible. So they never dubbed it.
Something I noticed was that in a number of his duels Dennis mistakenly referred to some of his cards as Performapal rather than Performage the only specific case that comes to mind is him calling Performage Trapeze Magician a Performapal in his duel against Gongenzaka
You forgot to mention the horrible script change to yuya’s letter to yuzu in the second season. In the original, Yuya states how it’s not all about him in the end and he needs to try to reach everyone with his dueling. He talks about how he will get stronger for her and everyone else because that’s what she wants for him. She cries out of joy and repeats the same words as Yuya while looking at the rising sun. It’s one of the best moments between the two in the whole series.... That is, until 4kids changed it to this. Yuya: and once we’re back we’ll eat some of your dad’s burnt waffles. Yuzu: ...😢😢yum yum..... I wish I was making that up. They actually do that. Shame on you 4kids!!!!!! Shame on you!!!!!!!

Yuzu's skirt was made longer in the dub right? To avoid the zettai ryoiki. From what i've seen the longer skirt looks cute but i think the length can be inconsistent between scenes?
There are 4 dimensions when split by ray defeating zarc after his reincarnation and defeat the pendulum dimension, xyz dimension, synchro dimension and fusion dimension you sho duel school, heartland city, New domino city and duel academy the incarnations have respective dragons and the girls of the incarnations have bracelets.
The one I thought you'd mention for sure is the treatment of Yugo's name being very close to the word for "fusion"- especially since this became a fairly substantial plot point. I mean, they were put into an impossible situation there but at the same time, I felt they could have had a better solution
I'm assuming some things got taken out for more commercial time. Japan only has one commercial break with like 3 commercials while America has like 3 commercial breaks with like 5 commercials.
Ah that's a good point! Also why dub openings are 60 seconds and usually don't have an ending, whereas JP shows have a 90 second opening and 90 second ending!
You missed that they actually censored/edited Yuya's appearance. In the dub: He's taller, broader in his shoulders, his hair is longer, doesn't have as much luster, or tone contrast, making it look dyed, and not natural and his waist line and torso is longer and wider. I actually did a scene by scene comparison with the subs & dubs, and noticed his physical changes.
Also they changed how they hold the cards. In the sub they sometimes hold the cards with their middle fingers but in the dub they add a shadow behind the middle finger and add their pointer finger in front of it.
Honestly for number 7, I'd say that changing the colour of the flames probably achieves the opposite of their objective to make such scenes less "scary" and "horrible" to the younger members of the audience, because I know that, back when I was younger, I always associated fire that was a not-normal colour with being vile and possibly demonic, so to me-as-a-kid, those purple flames would have been much scarier than the normal ones.
Not only they changed things in the dub, but there's also some errors. Like Yuya's duel against Officer 227 for example. Yuya set a 3 scale and scale 8 monster in the pendulum zones. But Yuya for some reason said he can summon monsters level 2-7 when he should've said 4-8. Then in Season 3 Yuya and Declan called a trap card a spell. Oh. Another thing that you missed is that part where Yoko goes up to where Skip and are, grabs the microphone, and tells Yuya about the promise he made to them and that he didn't keep it.
I was surprised that the dub didn’t cut out or edit the scene in episode 125 where the blue flames engulf Yuya and you see Zarc’s outline as he was using Odd Eyes Raging Dragon for his final attack.
I think the reason they remove the r in outline in episode 54 is because they haven't showed rin yet so they wanted that reveal to be a surprise even though we know they all look alike but my guess is the English dub didn't want to show what she actually look like right away they want to hold on to that
Since I was in a country that played Yu-Gi-Oh Arc-V (the dubbed) on 9Go, I physically have to leave the room and cover my ears. I watched the entire series in the subbed, and... it didn't sound right *at all* . However I will be the one to say I appreciate the dubbing company for the nods to the previous series like 5Ds -there was a lot of nods to that series I have noticed recently- but I don't appreciate the lack of care going into the voices of the characters. Zexal did a better job in portraying the voices in the dubbed (in my personal opinion) as the character's voices fit perfectly. Yuma is supposed to sound immature and it was done right -toobadfunimationdidntdothatseriesthorip- . But Yuya, I understand he's fourteen -voice cracking to the extreme- but there was lack of enthusiasm in his character that wasn't on par with the original material. *TL:DR* - Watch the original subbed for more of an experience. If you don't watch the subbed but enjoy the dubbed, that's perfectly fine It's just an opinion on the internet that probably holds no weight on it whatsoever. (BTW liked the video)
The episode where Yuya was dueling Ray and Ruri and after seeing Yuzu being touched by the doctor which made his anger release and scared the monsters had his lines change. In the sub Yuya says "You're acting like mighty animals...BUT INSECTS ARE STILL INSECTS " and in the dub he says, "They know they're in danger. Really BAD danger!!!" I was dissatisfied when I heard the dub and now watch the sub
I'm guessing Zuzu was either a mistranslation (her surname is Boyle) or they simply didn't want another "Yu" character because they feared it would get confusing. Joeri and Celina had to be mistranslations. Interestingly enough, Sayako was nicknamed. Hokuto was given an English version of his forename, basically. I'm surprised another Yugo/Yuzu moment did not make the list. 7 + 9. Purple? Smells like the Shadow Realm. 8. I can't see a difference between Yuzu. 10. "This is embarrassing." - Colossus 12. Maybe they felt the same way you did about the scene. 21. So the English dub doesn't Mickey Mouse it all the time then?
Chibi Prussia tbh the dubs can be good. The Major issue for me is censoring and dialogue changes. For example we in Germany have Fantastic Voice Actors doing the dub for DM and DSoD that also do work on the dubs on Hollywood Movies or big Budget tv Shows.if not for the Censorship and all that I would probably go watch only the dub myself
Honestly, in defense of the ZARC Voice I don't hate it and think it's Ok. But they should have used a deep voice overlay Plus when you take into to account the account that The VA of ZARC also voiced Yuya, Yuto, Yugo, Yuri, and Yusho. In my opinion i guess they ran out of a voice to give him.
in the YU-GI-OH Arc-V the Movie shows that Declan's sister Ray and Z-Arc in their original forms after Yuya vs Yusho's father and son duel, it shows the gang moves on in life, Gong, Sylvio, Yuya, and Zuzu from High School to College, future jobs coming in 25 years in the ending
I feel like you needed to watch the episodes and some of the voices really didnt fit or even (give a shit) on the dub. Well then again it's Yugioh dub.
8:25 in my mind, the dub screen shot looks more like Odd Eyes is about to blast Duel Chaser with his attack and wants to make sure it doesn’t miss. And taking his special ability into consideration: duel chaser would have been become crispier than a burnt KFC meal.
It is heavily implied that I am being kneed in the stomach! When I saw the purple fire I thought it was just to make it look cool Also, when I saw the scene when Yuzu calls out to Yuya in Zarc, I thought, "Man, I can't believe they didn't censor that." 5:35 That looks like purple to me. 9:52 REIJI SEES ALL
My least favorite change was how they changed the summoning of odd-eyes raging dragon. The subbed version was way more intense and thrilling than the dubbed.
I've been thinking, after Ray sealed Zarc they both are technically are in rerias body so maybe the darkness in Zarc went to Ray? Maybe that's why Yuya said the dragons fear Ray?
They feared Ray because she was the one to defeat them, split them up and banish 3 of them to alternate dimension and while Anger would be a natural emotion to feel towards her, not once but Twice they had power and it was ripped from them, I can see why they are scared
The sub was actually animated worse in that moment, because the effect was literally a stationary drawing of Odd-Eyes that was rotated around a center point, a cheap effect that was probably done in 20 seconds of editing. At least the bite had smooth animation, and the change might have been because overstimulated American kids would have noticed how ugly the animation was for that head slam. So, yeah, one of a few dub changes throughout the series I approve of.
Those are just alternate spellings. The Yu-boys never actually got a name change. The characters just didn't use the alternate spellings for their names
@@kichiroumitsurugi4363 Go watch Arc-V op 6. The correct way to spell their names is there. Also, Yugo means fusion and Hugo hates when people pronounce his name as Yugo.

Literal translations aren't so bad, it's when you hear the different names and wonder just how, how did they pick that name?
Still don't fully understand why they remove English Words from the Dub version of Yu-Gi-Oh
No idea either Mirage.. One of the great mysteries of the dub xD
@@YugiohEverything it's to make things easier for international dubs so they don't have to do the work themselves.
@@jadedheartsz
It's easier if they just put subtitles over Japanese kanji or subtext to explain context in certain scenes. It would at least show respect.
@@mystery8820 but that would only give more work for people overseas that have to localize it for their country, that's why many English omit kanji-to create less work for people dubbing them in other countries.
One: Zarcs voice, what the hell were they thinking? The voice doesn‘t fit him at all. Two: Shun versus Dennis, the scene were he demolishes Gear Giants attack points. Am I the only one who hates the dub for reducing or Even removing some of his lines completly?
Zarc's voice is the most amazing thing Ive ever heard.
@@duelistemissary7680 zarc.com
King zarc
@@duelistemissary7680 Ahahaha... not to sound like a purist, but if you are referring to dub Zarc, sorry, but it fucking sucks. Kensho Ono is still the best Zarc.
Yu-Gi-Oh Arc V: **Shows a skin tight suit that looks extra tight around the chest**
Dub: CENSORED. Put a little jacket on and make the pants look a TAD bit looser.
Yu-Gi-Oh Arc V: *AM I A JOKE TO YOU-*
Marik: welcome to the shadow real pharaoh
Atem: you mean the purple realm
Marik: silence
Atem i dont remember shadows been purple.
Marik: soon you're going to be throwing into the shadow
Atem:you mean throw into the purple
Marik: silence
Atem: i'm just saying
Now I summon MEGA ULTRA CHICKEN arise CHICKEN ARISE
Me: Lol, this is hilarious
*Marik is not pleased*
I literally just watched that episode
"Dragon's Ven-Gance"
Tsukikage to moon shadow is actually a name change that kinda makes sense because it's literally the translation.
They could've renamed him to Yusion I guess.
@@Dragonboy55564 Yusio could work yeah.
Yugioh Everything-I know! That's so messed up! Maybe it's to get kids to watch the show faster. Or time for commercials.
Yugo takes so much hits, he has a heart of gold
That really annoys me they changed the scene of Declan knowing there was a Spy, I always thought that was dope
I much prefer to have a uncensored dub that doesn't change too many names.
8:32 yes the dub one looks more darker lol no one wants to get eated by a dragon
Probably to fit a more beauty standard in the USA
Glad to know I'm not the only one who noticed dubs edit actually make the scene darker, which in 5ds case is ok but the rest IDK
And this is why I will now forever watch Yu-Gi-Oh with the Japanese subtitles and not the English dub
Facts! I know for damn sure that I moved away from the English dub since 4Kids has a Stranglehold on the Yugioh series!
@@danielramsey6141 4Kids doesn't exist anymore. 4K Media, a subsidiary of Viz Media, now has the license.
Tsukikages name was only translated since "Tsuki" means moon and "Kage" is shadow. But yeah i guess that counts still as a name change
I was surprised that the dub didn’t cut out or edit the scene in episode 125 where the blue flames engulf Yuya and you see Zarc’s outline as he was using Odd Eyes Raging Dragon for his final attack.
figgures the Dub would remove some of cool & epic scenes from the sub version
Yeah it's def a shame :/
If you don't watch the subbed but enjoy the dubbed, that's perfectly fine
It's just an opinion on the internet that probably holds no weight on it whatsoever.
10. "This is embarrassing." - Colossus
12. Maybe they felt the same way you did about the scene.
21. So the English dub doesn't Mickey Mouse it all the time then?
The yuya/zarc self guilt was what made the entire zarc plotline relevant,in my opinion.
Thanks, this saves me having to watch the dub!
xD xD
yess i've been waiting for this for sooooo long!
Hope you enjoy! :D
I am pretty sure Yugioh is the most censored anime in the world right now, oh great video BTW Too!!!!
Yeah it def might be! And thanks so much! :)
What about the 4Kids version of One Piece? Cardcaptor Sakura? Also, bear in mind that Japan censors its own cartoons.
25 THINGS the English Dub changed is always an interesting series to watch i hope one day we give 25 more facts from GX to Arc-V.
14:15 or they where to lazy to dub that part or the dub is actually a yuzu x yugo shipper and that's why they cutted that scene 😂😂
2:19 it's better than the Japanese version but still
What happened to the Dennis Suicide scene? Did they keep it in?
Yes I think they did! Surprisingly
Yugioh Everything oh wow, I looked it up and surprisingly the scene is fully intact. I guess Suicide is okay if you’re just becoming a trading card.
11:28 I had to look at Jack staring into my soul for a whole 30 seconds here
Once you go Sub you never go Dub 😁
GX Season 4 ; )
Yugioh Everything Best Part of GX period 😀
StrikeFreedomV2 I watch both soooo
Chibi Prussia tbh the dubs can be good. The Major issue for me is censoring and dialogue changes. For example we in Germany have Fantastic Voice Actors doing the dub for DM and DSoD that also do work on the dubs on Hollywood Movies or big Budget tv Shows.if not for the Censorship and all that I would probably go watch only the dub myself
Thus why I never watch sub and stay strictly dub
5:13 where do you see pink? That looks the exact same shade of purple as the other fires
Honestly, in defense of the ZARC Voice I don't hate it and think it's Ok. But they should have used a deep voice overlay
Plus when you take into to account the account that The VA of ZARC also voiced Yuya, Yuto, Yugo, Yuri, and Yusho. In my opinion i guess they ran out of a voice to give him.
Fire: * is orange *
Him: "red"
Fire censored: * is light purple *
Him: "pink"
[Edit]:
I know it's also pink
*Tsukikage to Moon Shadow*
But that's actually what Tsukikage means?
I searched it on google translate and Tsukikage means Moon Shadow
in the YU-GI-OH Arc-V the Movie shows that Declan's sister Ray and Z-Arc in their original forms after Yuya vs Yusho's father and son duel, it shows the gang moves on in life, Gong, Sylvio, Yuya, and Zuzu from High School to College, future jobs coming in 25 years in the ending
there is no arc v moive
In the future
Well there some highlights in the dub like the line "no one survived not even children" and more like those
This dub also didn't have as much censorship as compared to the older shows !
I thought for sure they would have censored Yuya summoning Odd Eyes Raging Dragon for the first time. Epic scene in the sub version.
This one was definitely worth the wait! Arc-V may not have been perfectly localized, but at least they left some things intact.
Surprisingly it wasn't as censored as much as some of the previous Yugiohs !
yes but it changed worse
@@YugiohEverything which yugioh dub is the most faithful in your opinion?
12:30 Because she just does it again anyways
Probably a good thing the dub changed whas in episode 147 where they changed yuya pendulum scale
Yeah at least they made that edit!
Since The Vrains Dub ended last year, will you do a video for it?
Worst dub in Yugioh ever. And that's saying alot when you consider how bad quality of Zexal's dub was.
See to me the worst is Zexal! It's close , I have high hopes for VRAINS dub though, especially after seeing episode 1
I feel like you needed to watch the episodes and some of the voices really didnt fit or even (give a shit) on the dub. Well then again it's Yugioh dub.
Just watch with sub and enjoy the original.
Supreme King Zarc TRUTH i was waiting for u to do this frickcluster
if i ever hear dueltaining again ill die inside
8:25 in my mind, the dub screen shot looks more like Odd Eyes is about to blast Duel Chaser with his attack and wants to make sure it doesn’t miss. And taking his special ability into consideration: duel chaser would have been become crispier than a burnt KFC meal.
4:30
Wtf, purple fire seems even worse lmao
Odd-Eyes attacking DC227 in the dub was actually a really cool change.
a change you didnt mention is that they removed the scene where shun pushes asuka out of the way
It is heavily implied that I am being kneed in the stomach!
When I saw the purple fire I thought it was just to make it look cool
Also, when I saw the scene when Yuzu calls out to Yuya in Zarc, I thought, "Man, I can't believe they didn't censor that."
5:35 That looks like purple to me.
8:21 AHAHAHAH
WTF, look how big mega chicken's head is!
HAHAHA xD xD
The sub was actually animated worse in that moment, because the effect was literally a stationary drawing of Odd-Eyes that was rotated around a center point, a cheap effect that was probably done in 20 seconds of editing. At least the bite had smooth animation, and the change might have been because overstimulated American kids would have noticed how ugly the animation was for that head slam.
So, yeah, one of a few dub changes throughout the series I approve of.
Vioce crack
Vioce crack
I kind of like the purple flames in my opinion it gives it a more sinister tone
The shower scene when Yugo brings Yuzu home... sounds bad. Also, their names were Yuya, Ute, Hugo and Joeri, or similar
Does anyone know where I can find the dub in high quality? I know its completely unrelated, but I just want to know.
