  • In this video: Repairing the damaged headstock; installing new mandolin tuners.
This guitar was found on the side of the road in the garbage - my friend picked it up and gave it to me to see what I could do with it. I think I have decided to turn it into an Octave Mandolin / Mando Guitar... crazy, right? I was inspired but some beautiful Octave mandolins made by Northfield instruments. It has some issues with the headstock, but other than that, it is in very good shape. Let me know in the comments what you think. Stay tuned for more videos to come in the series.

Thanks for filming this, I don't think I'd ever try it but your process is great to watch.

Nice work ! I think that you should have given an inward headstock angle to your tuning machine, because like they are right now, it looks that you’ll have a hard time putting the strings without the string touching the adjacent tuner. String spacing will be small so the tuning machines need a certain angle at the headstock. I may be completely wrong…

I have 2 mandolins in the house and neither of them have the tuners angling in and the strings don't touch... they are small gauge strings, after all.
