Example my Fit has a 74.5 headtube 21 top tube the frame geometry is for going fast and roasting trails and feeling super stable. Importance of proper fitting bike .

    I'm looking into getting some new bars for my 2018 Performer. I'm looking for a 4 piece, mid school styled handlebar for customization purposes. My stock bars have a rise that's slightly over 9 inches, so I know about what rise height I'd need for comfort. I want a little less backsweep on whatever trippy looking bars I get.

    Hey Brant, pls help me out. I used to ride a WTP Envy 2010, the handlebars are pretty low, I thought every BMX was like that. Then I bought a WTP Envy 2011 recently, and was surprised by how high the handlebars are, compared to the old one. I have a hard time spinning the handlebars, because of they're too high and wide, and they touch my legs when I try to spin them! What should I do, deal with it or get another bike? I'm 5.74 ft tall.

    • @Brant_Moore
      @Brant_Moore  6 лет назад

      You can get new handlebars that are smaller/skinnier at any time. No need to get a whole new bike!

    • @rf8754
      @rf8754 6 лет назад +1

      Gosh, stupid question, I meant new handlebars. My concern was the frame was higher, not the handlebars, but I tried to measure and both seem identical. Thanks anyway. I meant a WTP 2017 not, 2011.

    • @Brant_Moore
      @Brant_Moore  6 лет назад

      Haha no its okay, no stupid questions.
      I don’t think the frame would affect handlebar height. It can affect how far they are away though if it has a longer top tube.
      Your fork steer tube and stem are the other factors in bar height aside from the rise of the bars themselves.
      If you don’t like the way something feels though, it’s always an option to get something else. Maybe a friend has something similar you could try before buying a new set of bars?

    • @Brant_Moore

      I’m not sure what 1.73/1.75 means but it depends more on your height. If you’re really tall then those bars could feel short and make you feel hunched over. I’d say if you’re under 5’10” they would be okay

    what would be a good geometry for bar spins?

    • @Brant_Moore
      @Brant_Moore  5 лет назад

      All I would say is that the wider the bars, the harder they are to throw fast but the more stable/slower steering control.
      The skinnier the bars, the easier they are to throw and throw fast, but the less stable/quicker steering control.
      The geometry numbers themselves don’t really have known numbers that are better for bars.
      Hope this helps!!

      I personally noticed a difference when I got taller bars and a top load stem. It felt like everything got easier.

      I didnt notice a difference with candybars or saran wraps or any of those types of tricks.

    You made a comment on the break-area.sss for high-tensile-steel bars. If you look at the 4 piece design, the stresses(vibrations) are transferred away from those area.sss. Bottom-protrusions and angles and position of those bottom-protrusions matters to me (feel)
    Good information on geometry of rises and sweeps.
    Riding style and bike objective
    = with shoulder-width (going up-down straight)
    = with preferred elbow spread (doing tricks)
    = with wrist stress (pivot bike sideways leading to slipping-palms and accidentally flipping bike sideways during tricks)
    = curvature of (shoulder-elbow movements from sitting to half-standing to standing)
    = suggest straight elbow to wrist to handles of handle-bars
    Review rises and sweeps, if handle-bars are angled-towards or angled-away. Comfort is performance. Material and design and usage.

    The heat treatment is also needed to kinda unify the structure of the metal in welding points. And relieves the stresses made during welding. (The temperature during welding process is really high, and when the material is cooling it might get tempered - that makes it stronger, but more brittle too [let's say 'less springy'] and of course structure is not unified. My bars are 29 and they feel too wide. Grips are longer these days compared to yesteryear, so I feel there is a natural place to grip and it's never changed, except for that crazy period of super short. 29-30 today is same feel as 28-28 1/2 from yesteryear accounting for the grips. I'll definitely cut mine to 28. 29 just feels in the way. As far as height, I feel slightly shorter is better for flatland, but I like them tall for general riding.

    • @gods1lla
      @gods1lla 6 лет назад +1

      is scuffing still a thing in flatland? I see flatlanders riding brakeless now. All seems very fast paced compraed to the Day Smith's and Trevor Meyer's

    • @supernoobsmith5718
      @supernoobsmith5718 6 лет назад +2

      I didn't say anything about scuffing. But it's pretty hard to learn pumping if you can't scuff first. What do you think today's tricks are? The same thing as yesteryear, just way evolved. That said, I don't really pay attention to what's a "thing" anyway. These days I'm just happy to carve around bowls and still have my original knees.
      Today's flatland is awesome skill-wise but it also gets repetitive and kind of esoteric, meaning not understood by the casual observer. I'm a fan of huge fast tricks that look good to non riders. Like instead of a dainty gturn in a tight circle, how about a high speed huge carved reverse nosewheelie type of gturn. That's how it was invented. That's flashy and easy to comprehend and gives you massive momentum to link stuff.

    • @Brant_Moore
      @Brant_Moore  6 лет назад +2

      I’m on your side with wider bars not feeling right. When I first built the Nowear frame I didn’t know it but the bars were actually 29.5. The first session left my wrists hurting but I thought it was just in my head until Karl told me the 4 piece bars come wider than the 2 piece. Cut them down to 28.5 and everything felt normal again.
      As far as flatland goes, all of the spinning and stuff definitely looks similar to me, but there’s also guys like Terry Adams who do that crazy flip stuff with the bike. That stuff is crazy looking.
      Can you imagine a rider these days doing that crazy flatland, then doing a gnarly huge gap? Would feel like watching someone Ike Osato again

    • @Brant_Moore
      @Brant_Moore  6 лет назад

      While I wouldn't exactly call it normal, I would still say that if it feels comfortable there's nothing wrong with that.
      The thing you often see when people have bars that are too big is that they just look awkward trying to move the bike around.
      Either way, there is nothing wrong with having those bars if you like them.

      Whoa wait a minute. Cutting bars is not a lost art. Bars are made up to 30 so you have the option to cut them. Tall guys I ride with like 29 to 30 wide. If you're not tall you do not need 30 wide. I've found that 8.75, 27.5 is perfect for me. Wide bars will f up tricks like barspins and x-ups. Don't knock cutting til you try it. I always tell people to experiment. You may find something else that's better than what you have.
