@@tr1tion A standard USB-C to HDMI adapter works great. If you get one with USB ports, you can connect a keyboard and mouse to it too and it becomes a desktop PC basically

If the device references HDMI AT ALL it's almost for sure a console, not a handheld While HDMI does have "HDMI Alt mode" for sending HDMI over a USB connection, it's hardly ever used as its just inferior to displayport alt mode Most devices use Displayport Alt mode including the steam deck and Nintendo Switch which sounds weird when you consider the offical switch dock uses HDMI, but HDMI Alt mode is so much worse that it's better for Nintendo to adapt displayport alt mode to HDMI If the device is referencing HDMI, it almost guarantees its wierd up to a full sized HDMI port

I'm holding off on building a new PC because I'm eagerly awaiting an announcement from Valve. I am tired of building computers and I am tired of Windows. I'm typing this comment from a docked Steam Deck connected to a monitor and keyboard. SteamOS is awesome and the Steam Deck has been the most painless computer experience I've had in decades. I'm desperate for a more powerful box with a similar user experience. No worrying about drivers and compatibility and adversarial windows nonsense. Just plug it in, let it update, done. The Deck is most of the way there already but just lacks power for higher resolution gaming.
I'm holding off buying a console. Still need to build a PC for work purposes, but for gaming I am all in for a bona fide Steam Box TV Console. It would be fantastic for PC gaming if there was a successful console box, so that it would effectively set a standard benchmark for game developers to optimise for. Which in turn might cool down the market for GPUs, at least as far as gamers getting gouged goes.
I'm really hoping for this to release soon because it'd probably be my absolute favorite console (if it'd be a console like an Xbox) or the best PC for me to get as someone who likes PCs and gaming, but replacing parts and stuff goes totally over my head

could also be that they are going the apple vision route by having a tethered device and not just a battery if you know what a mean. this way they could make the headset small like the beyond and a console you can carry on your body via straps that's about as heavy as the steam deck but since it doesn't have a screen and controller buttons they can add more internals. the glasses and this console are sold separately for people that already have pc's and don't care about wireless vr like sim enthusiasts. that's what i think valve is working on. it also makes perfect sense to make headsets like this until hardware gets better. you want gtx1070 performance which is possible in this formfactor. if the headset itself has oled and pancake glasses you want them to be separated from the rest of the hardware so you dont need to buy a whole new headset once better hardware releases. valve could sell a new console every 3-5 years and your glasses will still work.

I have a Bazzite AMD console with a libCEC device. I already have this and more powerful. If you know how to build a computer and can flash an installer, you can build your own easily.
I still use the terrible Steam Link, which is super slow and laggy even when directly connected to the network. It got a couple of random updates a few years back when the Deck came out, but otherwise it is just crap no matter if I use hardware decoding, nvidia etc. its just a slow little thing.

So *IF* Valve makes a new VR headset unit and console, I will have a whole whopping 1 (Half Life Alyx), maybe 2 (HLX) A-tier VR games. I'm not counting the dregs of VR 'games'. Upwards of $1,000 or even more just to play two games (if that), then *if* Valve ever makes another game, it will be many many years later and require another hardware investment. Valve needs to make this affordable, and have top tier content.

Steam Deck Dock has full size HDMI
I believe internally the steam deck dock is hdmi to usb c, whereas this is full hdmi to hdmi like on the back of a gpu.

This the most recent video in my life. Just 1 minute ago.
So *IF* Valve makes a new VR headset unit and console, I will have a whole whopping 1 (Half Life Alyx), maybe 2 (HLX) A-tier VR games. I'm not counting the dregs of VR 'games'. Upwards of $1,000 or even more just to play two games (if that), then *if* Valve ever makes another game, it will be many many years later and require another hardware investment. Valve needs to make this affordable, and have top tier content.
