  • Today we have an interesting hand from The Lodge where Doug Polk makes a huge all-in river bet in a high stakes live cash game!
    Texas poker is WILD and this hand is no different! Constant straddles, 3-bets, huge bluffs, and massive pots make these games extremely exciting... and profitable for great players like Doug Polk! When the straddle reaches $100 in this $5/$10 live cash game, Polk gets into a high stakes battle with Poker Traveler in a pot that is over $35,000!?
    In this video I take a look at the poker strategy you should apply in straddled pots in live cash games and cover the fundamentals for bet sizings on both your bluffs and value hands!
    Thank you to The Lodge for letting me use their footage! Check them out here: / thelodgelive

    What would YOU do with 8♥ 8♣ on the flop?
    Your Stack (BB): $14,400
    Their Stacks (UTG & UTG+3): $30,400 & $2,200
    Pot: $2,000
    Board: Q♠ 7♣ 5♦
    You check, UTG bets $550, UTG+3 calls
    A) Fold
    B) Call
    C) Raise to $1,100
    D) Raise to $2,600

    Jonathan, what a silly title: "Is Doug Polk Ever Bluffing Here?" No one needs to watch your video to tell you that, ya Doug absofruitly, most definitely, without a doubt has a bluff here cause he's a golden god and has a bluff everywhere. Yesterday I found one of Doug's bluffs in my basement behind the water heater.

    It's cheap and Folding after Calling the Raise pre-flop would be just BAD poker.

  • @maxwelllittle5291

    The overbet makes it so that Polk would have to have a lot of bluffs to make a call profitable, especially since 88 won't beat any value hands at all while something like KQ or AQ would at least beat QJ or QT which might try for thin value depending on the table reads.

    Folding, we'll be up against better hands or maybe straight draws, but both of them having one is really low, they'd be blocking each other, we're blocking them and with DQ's stack, you probably shouldn't call with a draw and we won't have position and underrealize equity

  • @jbpokerwar8962
    @jbpokerwar8962 2 года назад +1

    With both of them calling, 88s probably should fold, any big cards come on the turn is bad, and smaller cards will help those on draws. If heads up it would be way different but with a bet and a call well I would feel like your touching your money so to me it's a fold or you re raise right now big and try and take it down. Calling is not an option

    I fold for a number of reasons. In multiway pots you have to play much tighter. We block loads of hands that would bet this flop that we are ahead of. If an 8 comes our opponents makes a load of nut hands; there is basically no good run-out for us. We are out of position.

  • @damedley75
    @damedley75 2 года назад

    13:00 If you've come this far with the 8s I think this is a very reasonable call. Turn and river look very good for you. Doug wouldn't have just called with QQ preflop. He'd never bet a medium strength hand like this. IMO he can only have 77, 55, 75, and an assortment of bluffs. Polk knows his range has a ton of bluffs, which is why he can bet this big. If his range was mostly strong hands and very few bluffs he'd bet small.
    So, both Doug and PT know Doug has a lot of bluffs in his range. Is 40% or more of his range bluffs? Questionable, but again, this is what PT knew he might have to face when he called flop and turn. He called thinking he was good. If he was good, he's still good.

    • @damedley75
      @damedley75 2 года назад

      Hmm I hadn't thought about blockers, but if PT is thinking he blocks bluffs, all the more reason to fold the flop in the first place. Call, call, fold on a run out like this is a horrible line.

      Passive doesn’t imply you check-fold too much, it implies you check-call too much in my mind.

      The problem with the Raise as you suggested, is that you will have a hard time maneuvering, if the wrong cards come on the Flop. A pair of 8 is what it is. ....
      What do you do on the Flop ??
      I always as one should, try to lay a battle plan if I'm to get involved with a medium Pair.

    I would call on the flop With my hand I block one of the most realistic Bluff that Polk would have Being 89 of clubs so having said that he either most likely has a queen or nothing when doug flats pre-flop It’s kind a hard to put them on something that beats your eights he probably three bets Pocket nine’s and up also probably three bets Queen king queen Jack definitely three betts A queen Once again especially because he flats pre-flop with the caller behind them I know he short stack and you’re worried about him shoving but with a raised to 600 you three bet should be 1800 to 2000 which puts the small stack pretty much all online but as deep as the 88 are You’re definitely getting a call from him and your in position and your doug polk you have to do think you can out play him post flop. So without him three betting pre-flop you definitely have to call on the flop I don’t like a raise especially into a multi way pot mandatory call. Big fan Mr. little I think that you explain things in a way that is easier for beginning players through intermediate players to understand congrats on the second Place finish
