- Repairing an old Simpson analog meter. This meter was from my and my son's collection of retro electronics. Just wanted to pull it apart and see if I could get it working again. mpselectrolab.com
I'm just in the process of restoring my Granddad's old analog multimeter, so this is interesting to me. Thank You ^_^
Good luck Asriazh. Take your time to adjust to the correct settings with the knobs when testing. Also, you can get the smaller fuse at an auto parts store. The larger fuse, you will need to find at an electrical supply or on amazon. Here is a link for the larger BUSS fuse: @t. Take a second and hit the subscribe button so you get notices. I will be publishing another meter restoration video in the future.
@@mpselectrolab1067 Og, it isn't of the same brand or the samr model You showed here, it's a Micronta 22-204U made by Tandy/Radioshack. It doesn't have fuses. The only thing that protects it from blowing up is two diodes across the meter's display. But that didn't save the 8,5 ohm resistor that's used for Ohms and DC-A readings. The 91 Ohm resistor got pretty toasty too but still reads fine. I had battery leakage even worse than on Your meter on the micronta one.Underneath the knob that sets the mode and range, there was a leaf spring that acted as a switch that connected the batteries to the circuit it Ohm reading mode. The knob pushed the leaf spring onto a contact area. the battery alcaline went through the cable that was connected to the battery and corroded the spring so much it broke into two pieces. Soldering them back together didn't help much, even tho i used a thick wire at the back to join the two pieces and reenforce it. Engaging the switch stressed it and the spring just broke at another spot, heh. I may have to buy another Micronta of the same model that doesn't work, so i can salvage the spring from there. Until then I can at least use the other modes besides Ohms readings and to my surprise, after a bit of calibration, the readings are very accurate. i tried a DC powersupply that was 11,99V according to my digital multimeter and the Micronta's needle stopped right before 12V just a needle width away from it. Not bad for a meter from 1974 ^_^
Thank you sir very good explanation
my ammeter pegs needle every range any ideas 💡
What do I test if my meter is not taking readings
Are these worth anything? I have a 260 series 8 in a hard leather case
Not really. There are a lot of them out there. It’s just a cool old analog meter. The Simpson company story is interesting, as well.

Were can I find resistors in 25mohms range? Any idea?
You have a very orderly and clean work area.👍
Can u place me the diagram of buzzer capacitor n 100k resistor measuring range
