I saw her in Boston in 95/96 in a small outdoor venue. Just a stunning presence and hard to describe how good she was live. She has been my favorite artist since 92 when my cousin gave me her album. He is a precious soul who managed to introduce me to my favorites xx
Tori is one of my all time favorite artists, one of a kind, she doesn't hold back, just says it quite honestly, and fabulous musician..😁😁😁, Thank-you so much
Since discovering her back in 2004 she has been quite simply my favourite artist, hands down. What a fierce talent she is-as composer, lyricist, pianist, singer, producer... An artist through and through, and one of the best live musicians ever, certainly the best I've been lucky enough to experience. She is incomparable. There are some amazing live performances from this and other eras that you'd love. She's so consistently amazing that I can honestly say just pick one at random and be blown away. Love the Tori reactions, thank you. Please keep more of them coming.
Those are beautiful words. And from the few songs i have heard i can already begin to understand that. Definitely will explore more of her music. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment.
Great double album. She toured with Alanis Morrissette and we saw the concert. . .it was fantastic. I have seen her live as often as I can. . .probably close to 10 times. She never disappoints. As a fellow pianist, she was exactly what I needed in the 90s. For me she is a goddess.
So, there is a full show with video called "Sessions at west 54th Street" that was studio recorded show from this era of Tori, and this song is in it. There are a few professionally recorded shows during the plugged 98 and Venus tours, but i believe that the "Sessions" show is one of the best studio video recorded shows during the Plugged '98 Era.. Tori had never toured with a band before, and it was an experience to say the least. Also, this is my favorite Tori song of all time.. there is nothing like it.
You discuss her lyrics and her voice. Consider how few artists today sing solo without any backing vocalists and without any pitch correction. And consider that almost no artists write every word of their own lyrics today. Everything is written by committee, even when it comes to most solo artists. Tori writes and sings every word of her own music. And that's not even considering that she's a piano prodigy whose primary identity is that of a musical composer and player. It's incredible to me that any one person is possessed by so many talents. And none of that even touches on her insights, which are the real gift of her music. Yes, her words are poetically phrased and yes, her compositions and her singing and her playing are astonishing-but *her ideas and insights* are the greatest treasures of all.
Thanks for your input on this. You summarized it better than i ever could. As a writer my brain seems to automatically focus on lyrics and her ideas and insights are definitely the things that i am inspired by and can learn a lot from.
I'm not sure if anyone's mentioned on previous reactions, but Tori's father was a minister and she grew up in the church (and clearly has a complicated relationship with it), so that's why you'll see a ton of Christian/religious imagery in her music.
Tori Amos and Trent Reznor have a past. Tori is also best friends with Maynard James Keenan from TOOL/A Perfect Circle. You should definitely watch the live video of Tori and Maynard performing together: "Muhammad My Friend".
I LOVE tori amos! One of my favorite songs by her is called * in the springtime of his voodoo* its on her album "boys of pele" which is such a masterpiece. I highly recommend that album! 🤍

@@SaeedReacts. Just go for "tori amos live Precious Things" or "Tori Anos full concert 1998" and you will find it, no problem. This is the first song of the set, the public cheering is when she comes out and starts to play. The whole set is awesome, highly recommend.
Tori has always been able to tap into childhood and young adult trauma, especially for young girls and women. She knows it intimately, as so many of us do. Her lyrics, "Yes, my loyalties turned, like my ankle in the 7th grade, running after Billy...," refer to a young girl's initial loyalty to her 'tribe' - other young girls - but suddenly shifting to seeking male attention the moment she has a crush on a boy. This idea is revisited later in the song when young Tori is at a party with the popular girls who she hopes are her 'tribe,' only to find they're a vicious, cut-throat bunch who will never accept her for who she is. Her loyalties to herself are also tested in the second stanza of the song, referring to her young adult years, playing in bars and poolhalls, before she made it big. "He said, 'You're really an ugly girl, but I like the way you play,' and I died. But I thanked him. Can you believe that? Sick, holding on to his picture, dressing up every day." Again seeking male attention, but realizing how transactional and dehumanizing it can be, but falling for it at the same time. Many of us have lived through similar experiences, had the same feelings. This is where Tori excels and why she has such a large fanbase of women. For many years, Tori's live version of this song had a long drum/guitar intro, as you hear in this version. It was one of her best known songs and she opened many live performances with it. You're correct that the crowd goes wild during the intro as she takes the stage and sits at the piano. And then begins that frenetic, cascading keyboard motif, like a young girl running frantically across the playground, chasing a boy, running down a hallway, trying to get away from the mean girls, falling down the stairs into trauma, into childhood memories of trying to learn how to be, trying to find acceptance while seeking attention and love from others and only finding transactional exchanges and dehumanization.
Omg dude there’s so much footage of this era. I’m sure we all recommend the Sessions performance from 1998. You’ll get to see her at her peak performance and how amazing the band was.
Saw the tour (Nov. 98). I was in the pit and it was by far the best thing I’ve ever seen or heard. Being a Tori fan for the past 30 years has been such a gift.
This song, played very loudly in my car, still makes me sob uncontrollably, since 1998. Watching you watch this is just fucking incredible. Thank you. I've been a huge Tori fan since 1992. I love, love, love it if you listened to the song Here. In my head on your channel. It is my absolute favorite Tori song from an emotional viewpoint. I know you would love it too. The live version is the one to listen to: ruclips.net/video/LSr4NPpLH7U/видео.html&ab_channel=ToriAmos-Topic This is the link on RUclips. It's on her import single, Past the Mission, or on the deluxe version of Under the Pink. Please check it out. It would be SO AMAZING to watch you listen to it on your channel. - Tony
Not sure why you couldn't find a video for this, as when I searched "Tori Amos Precious Things Live", the first video that comes up is Tori Amos - Precious Things (Live Session 1998) and this is the best live video of this song.
@SaeedReacts. Just imagine her clawing her fingers up her thigh while screaming "girl"...it's an amazing performance and I recommend it even if you don't post another reaction.
The requester may think this version is superior to the Live Session 1998 version, the "giiirrrrlll" growl is definitely better IMO, I happen to think the version of The Waitress from this album is also superior to the Live Session 98 version.
great reaction! there's actually a HD video of her playing this live - pretty sure that's where this audio is from. check out her set at sessions at west 54th
Also if you want a very emotional and raw version of this - watch the one she did at Madison Square Garden in 1996/7 I think - it’s so beautifully disturbing 😳 she suffered a miscarriage not long before the concert and she taps into the forces hard during the whole concert
Thanks for the recommendation. I just recorded a reaction to Spark and i believe that song also was about her suffering a miscarriage. Very heavy, but amazing song. Also a reactio to Northern Lad should be coming later today.
I reacted to that cover. The video should be on the channel and also in the Tori Amos reactions playlist. Definitely will check out more. She is amazing!
Hey, I see you are really getting into the groove. That song I think was from 1998, the Live Sessions. There is another on the set list called "iieee" you definitely should check out (ruclips.net/video/LWSRtvyg2Rc/видео.html). Basically, you cannot go wrong with her ever, but in my humble opinion should always strive to see a live version cause only then can you fully delve into and enjoy this amazing musicianship this woman brings to the table or rather piano.
Tori and Trent Reznor had a relationship, which is why she mentions Nine Inch Nails. This song is all about letting go of the things that are not good for you, even if you think they are, and about moving on and finding what’s actually good for you. Love it so much.
At this point, not yet. They didn't meet until she asked him to sing on the next album. Plenty of songs on Boys for Pele & after, yes, could be referencing Trent. Blood Roses, Caught a Lite Sneeze, & She's Your Cocaine at least.
@@sidhedanu Nope, you are right, this reference was before their relationship. However I do stand by interpretation of the song, though it's just an opinion 😁
"nine inch nails" also references the length of the nails supposedly used to crucify jesus (which i believe is also the meaning behind the band's name, as well)...
Her live version of her song Sugar on this album is honestly perfection
Will add it to my list. Thanks.
When she delivers the line "Oh my god my sweet boy" I transcend every time
