The reason he won was because he did not start at all prior to the finals AND was given the task of guarding Lebron. It's all about how you perform compared to how people thought you will Iggy exceeded expectations so much that they had to give it to him, although it is clear to me that Steph should've won it
One underperformed compared to the regular season while one played arguably the best basketball in his career. Also LeBron was averaging 40 ppg and a triple double up until Iggy was put into the starting line up. The defense and everything improved after. Iggy also got more clutch shots when needed in that series than anyone else on either roster. MVPs are about narratives and the better narrative was Iggys. Love Igoudala, one of my favorite players. My grandpa was living in Springfield Illinois and was in a nursing home around the time igoudala got drafted, one of the nurses knew I liked basketball (as my grandpa loved it as well obviously, living in Illinois in the 90s made it easy) and she was telling me a story about igoudala bc her son was apparently really tight with Andre. And I don’t know if it’s true or not but she was saying how her son & igoudala went out to the mall one day and we’re just cruising around talking about what was cool and what not and igoudala just bought basically everything his friends wanted bc he appreciated him so much, just brotherly love. was just a cool back story to a player I didn’t know about but to be that few degrees of separation from him made me like him a little bit more as well. Though it also helped that when I played ball my game was very similar to igoudala’s. Good all around, not necessarily looking to score every point but lockdown defender that wanted the challenge.
He was a difference maker in some very critical moments, making Bron's life a bit hard and scoring as well, I'm glad such a smart team-first player got to earn a trophy!

Better shooter even without the physical gifts, higher percentage finisher even with his height, making more difficult shots at better efficiency, better handles, better playmaker, worse on-ball defender but better team defender IN MY VIEW (seriously, look at the numbers but even just off the eye-test). Given that nobody else in the starting lineup could hit even 40% FG nor 30% on 3's (yes, including Klay), it's not as if Steph had a ton of help either. Steph was able to be contained by the Cavaliers and LeBron was clearly the best player on the floor. It is surprising that offense and defense were taken into consideration this particular year. Hell nah. lmao Steph dropped 27, 5, and 5. It was dumb media hype because Kawhi just won the Finals mvp the year before putting up the same numbers and playing good defense on Lebron. The difference? Kawhi's 17ppg led his team in scoring. Iguadala's 17ppg was 3rd on the team. Edit: Correction, Iggy was 2nd on the team in ppg, but still not not close to Steph's impact. Iggy was a big time hooper, but Steph should've gotten that one. Not Iggy's fault. The media fucked up.
Honestly that was so well deserved and I was surprised and happy they gave it to him and not to the budding superstar and NBA's sweeheart Stephen Curry.
Look I like Steph and all, but overall, that finals MVP was up for grabs between him and iggy and at the end of the day I still think I’d give it to iggy. He had good offensive games along with being the best defensive player in the whole series. Not saying steph wasn’t deserving and I’m not tryna sound rude or anything but most of the guys who say “Steph should’ve won it 100%” need to go back and watch the series. Not the highlights, the series. I do think I would’ve leaned towards Steph for Finals MVP in 2018 but that’s for a different debate.
An important reason why iguadala won it was because his role changed during the series, making his impact more clear. If steph came of the bench and had a 10 5 5 in his first game, he would've won FMVP
Iggy is like when you ask an old person a question and they just ramble on about something you didn’t even ask, telling stories about the “good old days”,
Had the Cavs pushed it to Game 7, LeBron is clearly the Finals MVP regardless of the outcome. He was clearly the best player in that series. Historically, FMVP goes to a player from the winning team (except Jerry West). Curry is the best player on the Warriors that series despite the fact that his numbers were down. Iggy impacted the series in a big way but LBJ still got his on low efficiency. I think it was because his entry into the starting lineup coincided with the time the series momentum shifted to GSW making him an easier choice to win. It's like the Cedric Maxwell FMVP over Larry Legend.
Lebron was very inefficient that series. Curry was the best player in those Finals, and he destroyed the Cavs in the most important game of the Finals, Game 5, dropping 37 and an epic performance. Curry was the real Finals MVP and everyone knows it.
As a Sixer fan, I absolutely love Iguodala. I was ecstatic for him when he won his first ring. BUT I have to disagree on him when he hit that game winner vs the Lakers. Kobe did not play in that game. I remember it because I was a kid on the east coast, watching it at like 2 am, and he hit a game winner. If LeBron wasn't that good of a player that Iggy's impact wouldn't have meant that much.
Honestly Iggy had comparable stats to win Finals MVP in 2015 as a young Kawhi Leonard had to win it in 2014. Kawhi scored and rebounded slightly more but they both had the same assignment to guard Lebron in the Finals. You can't stop Lebron but you can just irritate and slow him down a bit. Iggy gets bs for that 2015 Finals MVP win because he is not a superstar/first-ballot Hall of Famer or developing into one after that title. He was in the back half of his pro-career and a designated sixth man when he won that first championship with the Warriors. There is a conspiracy theory even Bill Simmons floated that Lebron won the most votes to win 2015 Finals MVP but the league asked writers to change a few votes from Curry to Iggy so he would have a higher point total to exceed Lebron. Iggy and Curry were apparently narrowly split in the Finals MVP voting behind Lebron.
The voters gave it to him because of narrative. When the warriors went down 2-1 iggy started. And then they went 3-0. So it was easy for them to see what changed in the series and the most obvious one is iggy starting, coupled with the fact that he played phenomenal and guarded LeBron they gave it to him. The truth was it wasnt just iggy starting that made them go 3-0. People forget draymond started as small ball center and was arguably more impactful. Warriors were better and faster on offense and draymond smothered LeBron on defense. Steph on the other hand averaged 28/5/6 on 49/45/90 in those last 3 games. And in the series he had the 2nd highest finals 4th qtr ppg of all time. In retrospect it should have easily gone to Curry unanimously. Without The change Kerr made would they have won???? More than likely not since after the change LeBrons numbers dipped almost 10% FG and 10 PPG. I think they got it right giving it to Iggy because he won them that series and if he didn’t get it LeBron should have.

Steph was team first Iggy just wasn’t that talented to even be labeled team first
Back here after Curry won his first Fmvp! Tbh, it was a coin toss between these two back in 2015, and whoever wins it rightfully deserves it. Watched the whole series live from tv, and Andre did really play well that series! He came of the bench in some of those games too!
Steph should have 2015 and arguably 2018. Iggy's a great player and very good in that series, but he wasn't the FMVP.

Bro nearly everyone accepts that KD was the best player on the warriors. Steph was more important but kd was the Better player
@@crasherbasher8067 I mean yeah I disagree with that and with those people, yeah, almost everyone. Steph had a better regular season every year with KD. Steph and KD's on-off numbers show who made the team better as well. KD is one of the best players in the world but to me, Steph is still a better player overall. Better shooter even without the physical gifts, higher percentage finisher even with his height, making more difficult shots at better efficiency, better handles, better playmaker, worse on-ball defender but better team defender IN MY VIEW (seriously, look at the numbers but even just off the eye-test). He's more skilled simply because he does everything KD can do but at 6'3, and he's better still because he does it facing harsher defense and still puts up the same or better numbers. I was a KD fan ever since I first started watching basketball, and I first noticed Steph in 2016 but moreso after KD joined gsw because I was a KD fan. Historically, FMVP goes to a player from the winning team (except Jerry West). Curry is the best player on the Warriors that series despite the fact that his numbers were down.

@@cp3190 kawhi's defense in that series is worth more than that 10 point gap tbh
He was their most VALUABLE player and was clearly the best statistically.
