Dmitry James Finn, I think the problem is that if he tried to ‘modernize’ it to today’s regulations & safety standards, it would be virtually unrecognizable. There’s no way the IIHS, or the American government (or any government for that matter) would allow a car to be made available to the public today as is.

My grandad has a 1959 Coupe DeVille that he’s put on a late 2000s Cadillac and put 2 rear roofs together to create a bubbletop, it’s awesome to see this video finally happening!
I agree that the 50's and 60's are completely unique and so creative. At the same time I see the interior of the cars in the late 40's and 50's as amazing. I fear we will never see this "flavor" of car again.

I'll grant you're probably right with the year but the reason I went with the Eldorado as opposed to the series 62 is the Eldorado as far as I know are the only ones that had color keyed wheel covers. Just like the one in the picture.

I actually ended up finding photos of both styles, each with the color keyed wheel covers so I wonder if maybe it was an option on both?

I'd say the 1990-1997 Cutlass Supreme. The 4 door sedan is more distinctively Oldsmobile than the 1971 as much as I hate to admit. the 1971 Cutlass looks more like the Chevelle than its own Oldsmobile flair.
TheZProtocol the thing is that the 1969-1971 cutlasses are iconic, they’re famous for their taillights and their engine, but the 80’s cutlass is also nice.
@@Aeprl I see. In my case, when I think Oldsmobile, the G Body Cutlass Supreme instantly pops up in many people's mind. The W Body Cutlass Supreme was a very good attempt to translate he 80s Oldsmobile well into the 90s. Park a '86 sedan and a '96 sedan. You will see many design cues carried over.

Naturally you have a right to your opinion but if I ask you to look at the front of a 71’ Delta 88 or Ninety Eight maybe you’ll see nothing but Oldsmobile on the Cutlass front end. But here’s something, if you look at the 70’ Oldsmobile 98 taillights then look at the 70’ Monte Carlo taillights do you see a resemblance? Maybe the Cutlass should have had those taillights
Cadillac body style from 1971 was made until 1974. It changed a bit in 1975 and remained the same until 1976. 1977 was the smaller body style which was made until 1992 with a few minor changes over the years.

I've never really 'liked' the 59 Caddy. I am HAPPY that it exists and have mad respect for the designer. It must have been a different time in the 50's designers could be all like "let's do GIANT fins with rocket ship nipple tail lights" and everyone was all like"Yeah. Built it."
My first Cadillac was a 1959 Coupe deVille. It was Starlite silver with a dover white top. Interior was black and white with cloth and leather. I was 19 years old. I kept it about a year and traded at the Cadillac dealer for a one owner 1962 series 62 six window sedan because I thought the 59's fins were just too large. One of the Cadillacs I still own is a 1966 Sedan deVille HDTV which I bought in 1969.

The Deville was downsized in 1985, not 1989. It was revamped a bit in 1989, again in 1994 and slightly in 1997, for reference. The 1959 was, by far, the most beautiful Caddy ever made, maybe the prettiest car ever made.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as they say. My favorite designs are the 41 Chrysler Imperial (with skirts only), 53 Studebaker Starliner Coupe, 56/7 Lincoln Continental, 63 Lincoln Continental, 66 Oldsmobile Toronado and finally the 67 4 Door T Bird.

This is more of a "Foose" style retro build as apposed to being a production car being built today, as the title directs you to think. Now... The bullet tail lights. The fins and the bullets are what make the 59 iconic. I do love the idea of the LEDs in the fins and rings on the bumper. As much as I hate to say it, I agree with what someone else posted If it was being built today, the car needs to be shorter. At almost 19 ft. long, that's a massive car in today's standard. Also the small side mirrors would never fly in today's world. Then you didn't touch the interior, but I digress. You did a beautiful redesign on it.

The redisign isn't much different from the original and yet looks undisputably modern, I think that's a testament to how the Eldorado's design is ahead of its time.
I think my main issue is that the fins looked much better with the original pointy lights. If it was me I would've just reshaped rather than got rid of the pointy lights, made them not quite so extreme finishing with circles not points and then made the fins not quite so tall, perhaps a different shape like flat at the top or broader. But then who am I to talk as I don't have your amazing drawing skills! Good job!
GM, hire this man for car design. I would so go to a Cadillac dealer to look at one. The major problem GM has is that no one wants to even go to their dealership, much less, look at the cars. Get people in the dealership, and maybe people will want to give GM a chance.

I had thought that the color-keyed wheel covers were only available on the Eldorado but you're 100% right on the Biarritz badge.

From a mechanical standpoint, the exhaust could be coming from the circle taillights, just like the 2016 Ford GT had for it's air canals.

GM, hire this man for car design. I would so go to a Cadillac dealer to look at one. The major problem GM has is that no one wants to even go to their dealership, much less, look at the cars. Get people in the dealership, and maybe people will want to give GM a chance.
Nice work! How would you redesign the front? This is the good old days when Cadillac had full names for their cars instead of letters. At least Escalade has a full name.
You have a good feel for what a car should look like.
You should start your process by going to a car show or museum, to see the car in person. Then you'll get a real feel for the proportions and details.
*I challenge you to take one of these old '50s giant boats but redesigned it with a modern wheel base - so you have to change the proportions so it still looks good, but keep the rest!*

Most caddies today still have that cadillac style tail lights.... for the most part they are vertical but without the fins.
The redesign of the 1959 Cadillac Coupe DeVille was pretty amazing job you did! I would like to see you a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air redesign would be interesting
