What a fabulous story. So happy for you to not only wind up with this family car but to also have a father who was willing to make your dream come true. To then take that interest and expand it so that others can participate is amazing. There is a feeling that "car people", get when seeing these cars that non car people just don't understand.
When I was a kid my father ran a company and the owner kept him in a Cadillac. When he landed a big new account, a new Cadillac would show up the next week. During my youth I watched the gradual decline of the fin. This probably lead me to buying a new 1984 Eldorado at the age of 28.

Shyzah yeah I agree that's why I told my pops to let me restore his truck. It's a 02 Silverado 1500 with the 5.3 vortec Lm7. Nothing to special to other people, but my dad bought it brand new and it's been with the family since I was 4 or 5. I love this truck and can't wait to start on it maybe next year. Just got to save up some more money to really splurge on it and go all out.
Shyzah lol that's funny you cried for a Windstar but it's about the memories in the vehicle. Which I do understand! Hopefully we can build our car/truck the way we really want to and enjoy it 20 years from 😉
If you still have one, be glad. I _had_ one up until it met a telephone pole; an 84 Caprice 4-Door Sedan that wasn't worth a whole lot but still, it was my Grandpa's last car. I'm glad it was only the car and Father survived it, though; he had his seat belt on. The car didn't have air bags, BTW; the seat belt did a lot of work.

My family used to collect Camaros back in the day and take them to car shows, we had a detached 4 car garage with a Camaro from every generation (except for the 1st gen), I was really young at the time but I remember my mom and dad both had a green IROC bodystyle, and my mom had the 30th Aniversary Z28 in the garage at the time, I don't know when or why they sold their collection, but I tell them all the time I would've loved to inherit one of those Camaros and keep it going.

That's one hell of an idea Open an automotive museum and letting people bring in their cars for display.
I have a 1960 series 60 cadillac limousine sitting in a garage, its not in the best of shape which is sad, but it belongs to my brother and came from my grandpa. It still starts and runs, has factory ac, power rear seats, 3 row, all black, the chrome thats in it is absolutely insane.

Yeah. Ed really created a top tier channel from the start. I was surprised when I first subbed and saw all of these high quality videos from such a small channel. After I watched a couple videos I knew that this channel would get big really quick. The quality and responsiveness of this channel is truly amazing.
It's a winning concept, I know I have seen people of wealth or people high on a particular totem and thought "god, the stories they must have." However, due to the individuals who were backing the project, they took the automotive cornerstone.

This car will never go out of style! Been my dream car all the way from 2nd grade in school.
Absolutely amazing story. I have an uncle who just passed away and I have been chasing wanting to grab his car for a very long time. 1969 Roadrunner with a 440 six pack, he is the original owner. Before that he had a 1969 Roadrunner with a Hemi, but he said he didn't like the way it drove so he traded it for the current one. One day I will daily drive that car and enjoy it every day.

I just love his business plan for the museum, never heard of anything like that, its smart, yet its not that complicated. By finding a model satisfied his needs, it was logical to find people who wanted the same. Well done

My grandfather had a perfect 1962 Cadillac DeVille 2 door just like it. I remember cruising with him in it in the early 90s without even lap belts in the car. Don't worry he said, these came without seat belts so we don't need 'em. hahaha

What an awesome story and idea! I missed out on my Grandfather's '79 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham and '79 Cadillac Coupe Deville, but we did get my other Grandfather's amazing all original 1950 Dodge Meadowbrook! Glad to hear you got your Grandfather's Cadillac and helped create a neat museum!

This channel is the best thing that happened to the automotive community in years. It is breathtaking to see the amount of amazing stories, anecdotes and general information. Please, don't stop doing this. You're up there with Petrolicious in my book.
The original Ford auto plant, called the Piquette plant (and now a museum), was in a place called Milwaukee Junction in Detroit. In time hundreds of car plants sprung up there. An early Ford competitor, Brush, was built North of Milwaukee Junction in the city of Highland Park and the street is now called Brush Street in both Detroit and Highland Park.
I toured the Piquette plant in the past year and they had a Brush runabout on loan in their display of cars. My late father was an early antique car collector, starting in the forties, and he befriended Alanson Brush.
Last time I was this early, 2013 was going to be the last 2904.

I finally found what I had in my mind's eye. It used on a 1956-1957 Cadillac big four door sedan with the fins and was called "dusty rose", the grey/pink color just like your car! A crowd stopper! Haven't seen on another bike from 1981on. Thanks for the memories!
I too have my grand fathers 1969 Fiat 125p 1300. It's been sitting in the garage since the mid 80's when it was repainted, and 'modernized'. It's still on it's USSR made tires! Has the 80's front bumpers and lights front and back. Will start restoring it in about 1-2 years. Still have no idea where I'll find an original front chrome grill for it. or the the early front fenders... lights etc, but it'll be done somehow. It's a car that will stay in the family forever. Best part is this car is part of the orginal 300 or so that was accidentally shipped to Hungary in 1970. Fiat 125p's weren't sold in Hungary until the mid 70's.
That Cadillac story is what the car life is all about.

You can't drive a '59 Caddy with the e-brake on. It releases automatically when you put it in Drive. (Or, its supposed to.)
Your grandmother's clothing getting snagged isn't because of the original fabric. Its because there was a piece of wire running through the piping on the upholstery. It would break, go through the fabric, and snag your clothes (or stick into your leg).
'59 is the only year for the extra high fins, but its not the only year for that body style. 1960 was the same, except slightly lower fins.
We had a 59 like this. I passed my driving test in it. The emergency brake wasn’t dependent on the transmission for release.
@@FrankGutowski-ls8jt My Cadillac was a Fleetwood, so maybe it was different. The handbrake would automatically release when you shifted into Drive, but there was also a manual override for in case the vacuum-powered release failed.

OK. All ours had for release was a small pedal next to the eb pedal, on the same arm. Touch it and the eb’s ratchet clicked loose. I thought it was a nice feature.

I shed a tear.
When my son was 3, he went with me to buy a new truck. He sat there with me for like 4 hours and never complained. On the drive home I told him he could have the truck when he got his license. 13 years later I gave him a rusty worn out truck, he doesn’t drive it anymore, but he won’t get rid of it. Having a vehicle handed down to you is cool, having a 59 Caddy handed down must be awesome.

Man that inspires me. We've got a '56 merc and a 57' chevy bel air (both 2 door cars) just rotting out back of my grandparents house. The merc is what I really wanna save because rather than a drivetrain it's complete and original. The chevy had a bunch of parts stolen in the 80's. Someone who knew when my grandparents were gone would always steal more and more parts off of it. It's sitting out there, no hood. No doors. No trunk. No seats. Not even the steering wheel. And the drivetrain in it is also gone. My plan is to get them both pulled from there graves in the next year. And definitely start working on that merc. It's no '59 caddy, but it's the car I always loved to talk about and Just look at since I was a little kid

My great grandfather bought my great grand mother a new Cadillac every two years. He owned Whitehead electric and got John Portman's first architect job.
The 1959 Cadillac is not just a "car". It is a work of art you can drive. It belongs in the Louvre with all the other priceless works of art. It's the car that God drives.

I owned a 1957 cad coupe deville rebuilt the motor 60 over pistins i think it was a375 ci after that from a 365ci.had the trans rebuilt.new panels inside had air .a mounting front end part broke the spring was hanging out and my grand father made me get rid of it after spending 3500.fiking it up i had to call a junk yard to come and pick it up.i was so sad that day i think i was around 18 or so.had the heads ported and polished i miss that car so much my dad gave me that car i think of that car from time to time i hope it got a good home and they put the original seats back in it it was black with white seats originally.the next step was paint it had one rust part on the driver side were the crome piece went the only bondo it had one bad head bolt on the front driver side which it needed a heil coil it had original engine and trans i only put 150 milles on it after the rebuild my dad got some junk yard cad seats we put in i didn't like them i wanted to keep them stock.he got brake lines from work they looked funny copper coated?i think i would have changed if it wasn't steel.i put new wheel cyilnders around never got a chance to finish the build.the cars engine and trans didn't even get broke in only drove it a few times my girl freind and her friend was in the last ride.that was in the 80s.sad day to say the least.

I feel like I saw this car a few years ago. Just a few miles away from Roseville, California. I was with my dad at Starbucks, and there was a pink Caddy in the parking lot and my dad checked it out. Some time later, the driver, whom was a nice old lady, showed up, so her and my dad stopped for a bit and had a conversation about it as I took pictures of it. I remember her saying how the paint was original Cadillac paint, and she also mentioned that it was indeed repainted as well. I don't think I have the pictures anymore, and I can't remember if it was a coupe or a sedan, so maybe it wasn't the same car. I just thought it was an interesting coincidence how this car and the car I saw have a lot of similarities that aren't all cosmetic, so I thought I'd share my story. It'll get buried in the comments, and no one will waste time reading this whole thing, but oh well.
Definitely wasn't my Pop's 59. My grandma was from Australia and stood 4'11 and never drove. I've had the car for 4 years now. Would be crazy to have seen two side by side though. If you're ever near the museum swing in and say hi. milesthroughtime.com
Lucky! My father would not have worked anything out with his brothers for me to have that car. My first car was an uphill battle that I am still bitter about over two decades later.

Hopefully, your son appreciates the Caddy as much as you do, and it will someday find it's way into his driveway when he is old enough to respect it and realize what a piece of automotive art the Deville truly is. I could see a young man driving it to his High School Prom, him decked out in his white tuxedo with "Cadillac coordinated" rose cumberbun and bow tie. Well, that is how I would do it. I built my dream road bicycle in around 1980. It was a work of art, but that's another story.
This the part that relates to you.
I had been attending the National Bicycling Championships that were being held along the Lake Michigan shoreline on the Milwaukee Lake front for a period of years. I, along with many other bike fanatics, just hung around galking at the exotic bikes etc. There was one bike that had the most subtle, but unusual paint color.
So when I ordered the custom frame wanted it with custom paint. The color I remembered in my mind.
In trying to figure out what it was and since I had no color sample, I ended up going through old GM auto paint chip/formula

So..you made an exact replica,so to speak,of the Murphy Auto Museum,in Southern California. It's also very interactive and alive. People drive the cars.
My grandfather had a 1964 Plymouth satellite, was handed down to my dad. Me and him spent 2 years restoring the car to original condition. My dad crashed the car last year the back left wheel popped and he slammed into a side barrier on the highway. My grandpa said the simple words of “ dumbass “. We pulled the motor and trans out of the wreck of metal and put all the inside and Brain of that car into a 1939 ford coupe
