The original Aztec concept looked pretty cool, actually. Pontiac higher-ups decided to make the it bulkier and roomier and got rid of a lot of cool features that the car was originally going to have. It’s a perfect example of why “design by committee” and going with statistical trends or tastes are always terrible ways for designing pretty much anything, especially aesthetic related.

@@mrheath4928 it was a couple of years and it still (and still) has the same problem, but it just got transferred to the rest of the cadillac lineup

I love the car before he redesigned it. He did a good job but I love the Aztek the way it is. It's stands out and doesn't blend in easily
Honestly had Pontiac and the head executives at GM not fought and compromised so much on this car, it could have been a great car.

I actually thought the PT convertible was nearly perfect. The 2 door configuration seemed better suited for the PT's streetrod styling.

First off, you're Photoshop skills are unbelievable! Nice job on the redesign. I think it looks like a larger, funkier version of the Pontiac Vibe of that era.
The only recommendation I'd like to see is a slightly lower ride height (say, 2-3 inches). With the updates you made I feel it looks more suited for on-road use instead of off-road, so it wouldn't exactly need the higher ground clearance.

Buick actually makes some pretty nice cars. Yea they are a bit on the boring side, but damn the ride is smooth, the power is there when you want it, and they handle pretty decently.
@@ECFredrique-cc2by My first car was a 95 Buick Lesabre, and I loved it. Currently don't own any car, but Buicks are surprising cars. They're not the best by any means, but they are surprisingly good.

It looked so much better because it was originally on the S10 chassis. GM brought out the abomination when they switched to the Montana/van chassis instead.
They wanted to make it cheap, they got what they paid for.

You should have connected the front lights into one.
I disagree, that split is one of the most recognizable elements of the Aztec, although I think he should've shortened the split.

I don’t speak to well English but when they present the concept of the Astek, the astek had the front lights connected :’)
Santiago Salazar That doesn’t mean that the Aztecs split front end isn’t its most recognized feature.
I would have done that along with removing the upper grill and lowering the entire hood to that it meets up with the regular grill, also lower the lights so that once they're on piece they will line up with the lines on the side.

It just kinda looks like an Equinox now...
I feel that most of the Aztek's problems are in the rear, that weird hatch, the flat back end, the awful taillights and that weird droopy window. The front end, for all its quirks, looked unique.
Well, given that Pontiac's version of the Equinox was the Torrent, it'd make sense if they made the aztek look very much like the Equinox but with the usual Pontiac styling
I've aways thought the opposite - the rear was just cohesive enough to look good, but the front end was completely different and odd in comparison

you should totally try and redesign the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, it reminds of a modern version of the Aztek. Also i love your videos keep up the amazing work!!

I always thought the Aztek would've looked great with the 2008/2009 G6 GXP's grille.. You had it brushed in in black there for a second and it looked pretty cool!

Having just rewatched the first one I like the back part of that one more but the front on this one looks way nicer! A mix of both would be nice but i think this exercise is great! Revisiting old design is always a great way to improve

All points about the front are well taken. I appreciate your putting so much time into the beleaguered rig. I get a sort of minivan vibe off your finished product, though. Certainly the c-pillar and rear window modifications succeeded. I think the front is what gives off the minivan vibe. All in all, it's a worthy project on a fun and instructive channel.
I like how you didn't criticize the original designer. This wasn't his best work. Cool vid. Fun to watch your skills.

The Aztec was quite literally ahead of its time, so much of what’s hated on this design has become pervasive on countless modern cars.

The problem is that they had all those different people working on the styling, never communicating with each other.
One person worked on the front end, from the headlights down
Someone worked from above the headlights back to the windshield.
Someone on the wheels and wheel wells
Someone on the sides
Someone on the windows.
Finally, someone on the read end.
Then they took all the designs, squeezed them all together so they'd match up (kind of), and there you are.

The 2000s were great at alot of things, car designs not so much.
Everyone forgets that the Buick Rendezvous was a more toned down styled version of this exact car.

The front is beyond saveable, good job on the rear quarter window.
The designs you make are incredible, if I were you just to see what the companies think I would send them in as a concept of what they could do to bring back cars like the Crown Vic and maybe a Chevy version of the Aztec. Keep up the good work though, these are amazing and really entertaining to watch.

Cars Simplified for some reason I kind of like the way it’s looks
This was a very cool redesign. The rear end is kind of Lexus RX-ish, but the Frenched Gas filler makes it more manly. I like that part. The pulled fenders give it a nice flair. Refine it some more and send it to West Coast Customs and they’ll consider making it for you.

@@darkwarrior7356 What the Torrent should have looked like. There was never a need for Pontiac to have two almost exactly similar cars like the Aztek and the Torrent. This improved Aztek would have been a perfect replacement for the two of them,
Controversial opinion: this car was wayyy ahead of it's time in style and function. Give it 5 more years. It'll be a classic, guaranteed.
It was cool how it came with a matress, a tent, and a cooler.

Pontiac has a version of the Chevy equinox its called the Pontiac torrent
You know, it was hideous but it was cool to own. My friend had one, the stereo was loud af, it went basically everywhere, and we could tailgate in it at games. It was slow and not exactly fun to drive but it was like a Swiss army knife of cars lol.
If there's one thing GM does right it's the stereo. My parent's astro van used to bump.

I remember SEMA when the Aztek was new. They had a silver one dropped with larger wheels and a small block in it. It was actually pretty sharp. Now I'm going to have to go back in my pics to make sure im not crazy.
I think if Pontiac didn’t get dropped in the GM bankruptcy this could have been a 2011 Aztek or something like that idk. The Aztek got replaced by the Equinox/Torrent/Rendezvous so who knows?
Oh and you forgot a placement for the fog lights
Velahcity the Rendezvous didn’t replace this. They were built on the same platform, for the same years, with the Rendezvous going up to 2007

can you try fixing the nissan IDX nismo concept, it looks a bit weird especially the C pillar portion of it
ssllhh100 the c pillar is one of the destinct designs in it lol. Much like some other newer nissans and their c pillars where it has a black strip leading to the rear window. Modern and sleek imo
Do you think you could modernize the Oldsmobile cutlass or 442? Like keep it retro but modern kinda like what dodge did with the challenger.
