Just curious as why you would say the PD36 TAC is probably not going to be a pocket light because of the exposed tail switch. Isn't that what the lockout function is for?
Use the head of E35V3.0 and the body of PD36R to make a flashlight. That sounds like a good idea.
It's certainly not a bad a idea. Harleywood, I do the same. Once you click the tail switch of 36r, you still have to use the head switch of e35 to turn on. It does work though quite well. And no it will not void your warranty. Lol.
still like tk11 tac for durable battry type
So I love the two Fenix lights I have (LD30 and PD32 V2.0). The LD is 1600 lumen and the PD 1200. I’m here to tell ya, lumens aren’t everything. Pay attention to the candela. The LD30 at 1600 lumens produces 10,302 candela. The PD32 at 1200 lumens produces 39,000 candela. The PD has a noticeably whiter light and is more intense with a tighter “bullseye”.
Exactly! Finally, somebody that understands lumens vs candela
If the people in the movie the blair witch would’ve had this they’d still be alive they would’ve seen that bitch coming from a mile away
I bought pd36r a month ago. The best thing I bought in ages. Totaly worth it. Greetings from the Czech Republic.
External charge port on the 36r is a no go. Over time the rubber will soften and eventually mine was useless and it wouldnt stay in at all. Good job with the internal battery charger.
It doesn't take away from it being weather and elements proof
I am definitely getting the PD36TAC. It’ll be nice addition to my EDC. It really is more oriented for duty as opposed to non combat people that want something comfortable. Most good gear isn’t comfortable at all. Some is but keep your expectations low, like really low. In a combat situation, you don’t want to be trying to flick a little switch or tap a magic code in to buttons for it to work. You can turn the rotating switch to duty or tactical mode and smash the button. Easy peasy. All this light is missing is red, green and amber lens inserts. Which I can probably make myself if I can’t find any. Anyway, great video!
Love Fenix lights. I have a bunch of them. But o also have Olight, and have never had a problem with any of them. I prefer Olight for user interface. Specifically, the M2R Warrior. With tailcap, you get a medium or Turbo made, depending how deeply you push the button. Always available directly. If you double- (or triple, I can’t remember), you have direct access to strobe. Almost immediately, no press and hold. You can also activate it with the side switch. Press once to access last level. Two quick presses takes you directly to Turbo. Three quick presses takes directly to strobe. IMO, strobe is useless, but you have it quickly, direct access, no delay. Two options for activating the light (tailcap or side switch), tailcap better use for tactical, and is only medium-high or Turbo. Side switch perfect for walking the dog at night, easy carry. And there is a lockout function (press and hold side switch about 5 seconds). Fenix is great, but you can’t beat the UI of the Olight M2R Warrior.
That recommendations of edc is great!
As of date of release the light is $99
You mentioned the fully exposed button has the possibility of going off in your pocket but isn’t there a lock out mode?
Yes. Exactly the same switch as my Fenix TK11 TAC. I've never had that come on unintentionally when I have it locked out
I don't know why they wouldn't mimic the pd35tac when it came to this one. I love the 35tac when it came to a half pree in tac mode giving you a lowe lumen level. 35tac in my opinion is just a better light all around as far as versatility...1000lmn for an edc light is perfect and it is lighter and more compact. NOW if Fenix put a magnetic recharging interface onto the PD35 TAC and used the new OI that the PD36R TAC has in the tail switch that would be an ultimate EDC IMO. What Fenix should have done is just sold the tail switch as a replacement for the original tail switch as an upgrade to the PD36R.
It depends on the usage, the tactical mode on the pd35 tac was anything but tactical IMHO. In high-stress situations you want to press that switch and get high/turbo no matter what, not to find yourself accidently on low, because in panic you pressed one too many times. Magnetic charging would be great but it entails proprietary battery which for me personally is a no go (edit: not for Fenix it doesn't, see the E30R)
check out the new(ish) PD 32 2.0…. Essentially the PD 35 TAC but brighter
You make these lights so tempting 😂. Good thing is they’re all black so it’s easier to sneak into the house and past my wife. Most likely how she does it with purses and shoes.
No turbo in tactical is almost deal-breaker for me, also the 2000lumen mode is 3h10 while the 1000 is 3h15 so it's probably gonna dim fast so i dont understand why no turbo if its not for constant output
I got away from fenix when they stopped the super low modes. In the dark 30 lumens is still too high in my opinion. Do a low of like 10 lumens.
Do you know of a brand we don't know about?
@@itruck96 I'm not sure what you mean
@@itruck96 nitecore, jetbeam, klarus, thrunite, sofirn… these brands have an ultra low mode
Thanks for the review, Harley! Again, thanks for the comparisons in the beam shots to other lights with similar output profiles; that sort of thing really helps put things in context, especially when you use lights that I own, or lights that I’ve watched you review before.
The PD36R is definitely my favorite light from Fenix.
I hate Olight
The ED35 V3 is.a good flashlight, however, if it had a tail switch it would be a great light.
Pd36r, still the best 1” tube money can buy right now as far as output and overall light performance, the UI just sucks so bad.
Tk16 v2.0 disagrees with you lol
Tail cap for me and a major fan of usb-c charging batteries.
I wouldn’t change my Pd36R for this one.
Pd36R Vs pd36 Tac
Pd36R
Pros:
- ON button has protectors for you not to activate it by mistake which is awesome and never interfered with turning it on.
- External charging port ( if you are on duty you will like this because you will charge it a lot)
-nicer clip so you can place it on your uniform.
Cons:
- not 3000 lumens
Pd36tack
Pros: 3000 lumens.
Cons:
- No protection against accidental start. ( you will definitely melt a few pouches during the day)
- Need to disassemble the flashlight to charge it every time.
The protection is putting it in lockout mode. Thats as safe as it gets for putting in a pack
Finally got rid of the idiotic side switch near the head...good job Fenix.
I have the PD36r but would probably prefer the E35 v3 which you can tail stand !
I really like the rubber mechanical tail button on my pd36r, does the new button feel as good? Also I like the side button, as I can cycle quickly with my little finger. Would’ve preferred a tactical mode like the pd35tac.
The button on the TAC is hard plastic.
Nice comparison review Harley. I do like how the the new tail design/no side switch helps tactical users, and nice how they introduced the lockout this way. I will probably buy it.
Awesome review. I’m a big fan of fenix Olight and nitecore. Just wanted to know did you end up voiding your warranty or did the other light still work. LOL
Nice light no doubt but disappointed in the candela. I'll stick with the PD36R
Same here. I'll keep my 36R.
Just as well buy the PD40R. They're practically the same..probably the same LED. Marketing makes people think they PD36RTac is an improvement since the original sold so good and Fenix has not done that well with the 40R, so they're still trying to sell the idea behind the 40 by upgrading the 36. It makes sense to me lol what I am saying
I noticed the TK 11 has the same exact tail as the PD36R. I like the tactical nature of it but I’m afraid of the button breaking if dropped. I also am not a fan of the button not giving you the click feedback. My main worry is how fragile the tail button is to damage.
Good review of function and comparison. I'm stepping up from my Streamlight1Ltac to the PD36tac.
Any tactical light must be used (activated) only with a thumb. An external lateral switch is unnecesary and annoying. Of course always with a momentary activation without have to totally press the tail cap button. If you want to avoid an unvoluntary activation it is enough to unscrew the tail cap, no need of external switch, make it simplier thus more reliable and waterproof.
Still undecided between PD36 and PD36R. Particularly I am more partial to the higher candela even though I like the bigger hot spot of the PD36. Also the water tight integrity is big thing to consider with the PD36. Either way I am going to purchase one of them.
I also think the tail cap is better choice for better quick action and control.
The PD36R would be the better choice. It Has built in USB C charging.
Any chance of a new 2021 trigger competition? The last video was great!
Nice...Thanks for the review....stay safe man
Nice job is always brother. I don't really have a preference I like them both because they both have their uses if you know what I mean. But you know me i love my Fenix lights. Thanks for the look bro and Happy Father's Day
I recently bought the PD36 TAC. Unfortunately, the light gets quite hot in tactical mode, so after 2 minutes it steps down to a lower lumen output, which is not mentioned in the stats provided by Fenix. In my opinion the light should stay on the same intensity for a LONG period of time when being in 'tactical mode'.
That's pretty much every light with a turbo setting. I'm assuming you're referring to the step-down in turbo which prevents overheating and damage to the battery/light.
Yeah I was surprised that my PD40R Version 2 stepped down after only a couple of minutes at 3000 lumens. Misleading!
Fenix is a fail, after the pd40v2 that is that can't hold 3000 lumens if the battery is below 85%. Sold
Say it ain't so Stuart!!!
it's turbo time is actually very good. 1& 1/2 hour.
@Eddie
Just to be transparent, that’s how long the battery lasts but the light does have thermal step downs once the light hits 60° C. Depending on your ambient temperature, Turbo usually steps down in only a few minutes.
@@itruck96 it's so and a known fact. I thought mine was faulty so I called Fenix. they confirm to hit turbo the battery needs to be above 85%. below 85% it wouldn't hit turbo.
@@eddie7155 that's what the back of the box states but its false.
You shouldn’t have to remove your battery to charge!
The external charger on the 36 r is not necessarily a pro. My 36 r stopped charging.. I thought it was the battery and ordered a new battery and that one wouldn't charge. Thought that I got a bad battery and ordered another battery.. Same thing. At least now with my new 36 tac (on the way) I know that won't happen again.. FYI, my 36 r was about 2+ years old when it stopped charging.
I prefer to plug in the battery externally. Less to go wrong is always better imo.
Batteries should only be charged in the device as a last resort. An external charger should be used whenever possible. Just safer

Why didn't you get a L21 5000U battery..charge it eternally
Really nice review
I can't decide between this light and the Nitecore P20iX...
Outstanding Brother Harley, I liked the PD 36R hot spot, I haven't bought a Fennix product yet, I would like to, I just bought my First Nitecore the P20ix I really like the Quality, It has 4000lm a Ton of Flood, You can just feel the Quality, I will purchase a Fennix Adventuly. Great Review Harley as always. Sincerely your freind from Mo Rick and God bless you and your family and are Great Country and Republic
My PD40R V2 is better then both these 2 flashlights you have profiled. Also I find the rotary dial better then the tailcap click button. I have both types. The tailcap click button prevents it from standing upright.
Yeah I also have the PD40R and I love it but man is it big.
How easily can that switch be turned? If I had it in tactical mode it would be for a reason and I would not want that switched.
It has a tactile click and very small amount of resistance to “un-click” it. Feels like there’s a small detent bearing or something.
@@HarleyWood23 small amount of resistance = don’t think I would you that for police use. Change that feature slightly and it would be great.
Yeah. Fair point
Awesome review
Hi .what are your thoughts on fenix tk22ue and tk16 v.2?
I have the TK16V2 and my goodness that light is great! I can't really find anything negative to say about it. I would like to get the 22 you mentioned as well but I am still eyeballing the LD30 and PD35V3 but haven't bought them as of yet.
Great work -- thank you!
99.99 I GOT IT WIth 25 percent off lol i also have pd36r pd40v2 m2r warrior olight seeker 2 pro and i feel after all that the pd36r is still better!
2:02 The switch seems pretty soft.
You mean the ring selector?
@@AAA-tc1uh yes
@@Set_your_handle77 yeah, I would've prefered a two stage (like pull-rotate) mechanism or otherwise electronic switching,
E35v3 looked better to me for some reason...just saying
Hi what the best out of this 2 plz pd36 tac or warrior 3 thanks
Warrior 3 has more candela (23,000). If that matters to you then that is the way to go. Pd36 tac has more flood and over all more lumen output, so if you want to fill up a space better than that is the better option. This shouldn’t matter when choosing a tactical light, but for some it might be worth mentioning that the warrior 3 has a 1 lumen mode which makes it’s a nice option for general edc use in the home.
Generally, the pd36 line has a more proven track record. The the M2r warrior line has had firmware and hardware issues that prompted Olight to give it a lifetime warranty. They supposedly fixed that so the warrior 3 has a 5 year warranty but time will tell.
I may sound biased to the pd36 line, but I own the M2r warrior pro (the predecessor of the warrior 3) because of the candela rating (22,400 cd).
subbed for a quality reviewer.
I bought 2 Fenix lights. One of them just stopped working after about a week. When I called them for a replacement they told me to watch a RUclips video on how to fix it. 😑.
Wtf. I just reached out to them. That’s unacceptable
@@HarleyWood23 awesome. This was probably 3 years ago. It was with the PD35 I believe
@@HarleyWood23 I still have the light haha
Watch a RUclips video?! Wtf! I'm sorry but that's kinda funny, and irritating at the same time.
@@charlieme5150 haha I agree. Again this was years ago so maybe they have changed. In all fairness to Fenix, I am a firefighter and I have carried one of their lights into structure fires and its held up. But the fact I couldn't get an immediate replacement and was kind of given the run around on the PD35 TAC was kind of a turn off
Bad ass video. Thanks 👋
How long before the light drops down from tactical mode 2000 lumen?
Only thing I see in documents is when light reaches 60° C.
Hi John
Recently I was talking about just this.
I'll copy and paste what I wrote a little while ago in another thread.
"I received the PD36R, I did a simple test at home with a stopwatch and a lux meter (temperature in the house is 27 C °)
In 60 seconds the power progressively decreases by 25% (Turbo level 3000 lumens) I repeated this test 2 times (after each test I waited for the flashlight to cool down well before starting the next test )
Using the tactical mode instead (High = 2000 lumens always at a temperature of 27 ° C - no fan - test repeated only 1 times ) everything is different, it remains stable for many seconds.
It begins to descend very slowly only after about 40/45 seconds.
After 1 minute it has dropped only by 7% or 8% and remains so for another 30 seconds - so I can say that after 90 seconds the descent is minimal.
After 90 seconds the descent takes place more quickly and by the second minute it has lost 30% of its initial value.
Please consider that the test took place indoors at 27C ° (80.6 Fahrenheit) and without a fan.
Given the results I say that it is excellent behavior.
This light outdoors with wind and/or low temperatures can do even better.
I add that then Fenix answered me exhaustively on the PD36 TAC there is an intelligent thermal sensor without any Timer. I hope it is understandable (I use an online translator)"
Will you do a review on the fenix tk16 V2.0?
I have one. Might be a review coming soon 😉
@@HarleyWood23 Awesome! Thanks for the reply.
i want to the olight acebeam blf fenix the best
Do you like the Fenix more than the Olight?
I sold my Olight with the quickness!!! It was horrible.
@@itruck96 what olight flashlight did you have and why?
@Random Uploads
More than the Seeker 2 Pro? yes. I love a tail cap button
@@charlieme5150 I believe it was the m2r warrior....I felt like It was always in the wrong mode when needing the light. The magnet feature was also worthless. It would slide on most surfaces because the magnet wasn't strong enough. I loved the magnetic charging though.
@@itruck96 i own several pro versions of the m2r warrior, i won't deny that I wished that the magnet was strong enough to hold the flashlight vertically but i never had any issues with the modes.
I got one then went ahead and bought a remote tac switch with rail adapter and a flashlight rail adapter.
Where did you get your adapters and tac switch?
Fenix tk16 mi yoksa fenix pd40r nin ışığı mı daha iyi?
E35 V 3.0❗️
Can I put this on my rifle 👀
Would you recommend either the Tactical or 36R for me being a Ups driver at these up coming long nights?
I use the PD35. I’m a Feeder driver. Either one is fine. I prefer having a lanyard on my flashlight. Trust me, you don’t want to drop this flashlight. It will crack the lense. Good luck.
@@jmichael1157 When you say it will crack the lens, are you referring to the PD35 or the PD36R or the PD36 TAC?
Dropped my pd36r many times onto concrete 4ft and bit higher no cracks or scratches. Use it very often for work pushing 2 years.
Nice Video .
The PD32 2.0 is a SUBSTANTIALLY better light.. I’m not sure what the big deal about this light is… other than housing a bigger battery. The 32 2.0 offer 1200 lumens but at a MUCH longer distance (395 meters vs 225 meters) and the PD32 2.0 is significantly brighter with 39,000 candela vs this light which only offers 12,600 candela. Other than a bigger battery and a gimmicky tail switch selector why would you chose this? My PD32 2.0 is much more useful as a duty light. Anyone care to chime in with something I may be missing?
Depends on your needs. Yes, the PD32 will throw farther (one of the best throwers, if not the best, at this head size) but this will illuminate larger area in front of you. With the PD32 you can find yourself on a lower level if you frantically press the tail switch under stress and you need max brightness, this won't happen when you're on tactical mode on the PD36 tac.
The purpose of this light, in answer to your question, is because it's a TAC light. It's made for tactical purposes to cover a large area up close that aides in coverage and helps others around you to see everything up close. A thrower is good for a field

Also I undecided on this ..
TK16 V2 has a much higher throw but remember it can only hold 3100 lumens for one minute (maybe 2 minutes if it's very cold) then suddenly drops to 1000 lumens.
PD36 TAC has a 2000 lumens level which could be maintained for a while before starting a downward slope
@@stefanozebralight518 if you're flying, PD36R/TAC visually looks less harmful vs the crowns on the TK, that's an easy no-go from the TSA
Do you want a rotary switch or 2 buttons for activation? Basically, that's the biggest differences other than 100 lumens and a little candela, and a strike bezel. I just liked them both in different ways so I bought them both
