I have 3 of these because I loved the first one so much and bought one for my daughter for Christmas. I have one in my night stand. My wife has one in her night stand and I have one in my truck. Definitely recommend it.
THIS is what I call an ACTUAL review, thank you so much for such a detailed review. I am considering buying this flashlight or the Powertac E9R-G4 for self defence purposes.
@@JonGadget I ended up going with the Powertac since it is more compact, easier to conceal in my pockets, and has more grippy textures, but if I didn't care about the size, Fenix is 100% a better option because of the higher lumens (2550 vs 3100) , the battery being completely inside with the USB C and more waterproofing, the metal studs for breaking glass. I will see how much I like the Powertac, and maybe I might also buy Fenix later on!
Seriously reviewed and very nicely produced and presented overview of the Fenix flashlight. No nonsenses approach absent of any gimmicky exaggeration and unnecessary overreacting and camera movements that make me dizzy watching so many other reviews on RUclips. Very authoritative, perfectly informed and superbly knowledgeable gentleman who's review are not only trustworthy but very enjoyable to watch like some kind of educational entertainments. All in all, it's very interesting, helpful, funny to watch and relaxing at the same time. In any case, one of the very best reviewers on the internet, particularly for us outdoors enthusiasts. Thank you, my utmost respect and keep up good work. My very best wishes.
I love the dual tail switch UI, and the lumen levels they chose make a lot of sense to me for a tactical light. For some uses I prefer a lower lowest level.
Purchased with spare battery. An all round compact light. I have lights with longer throws, tiny bodies and brighter turbo output. Many do have a moonlight setting but this is a real go to "torch" :) I am a big fan of Olight normally. BUT Wow, how far have we come from the plastic 1970's Eveready I got as a little boy for sneaking around with? I was delighted with that back then. I also appreciate the ease of use, having rotated torches blindly in the dark just to turn them on. The construction, single led and removable battery are also 'advanced' over others. Of course this is subjective but there is nothing worse than having a torch with more hard to access modes in an emergency. Especially when you are over 50!! Excellent review, really excellent. Thank you for a very honest and analytical approach. It is great to have such passion and audience awareness in your reviews. Thank you.
Hello, I like your reviews. I have tried and used two Fenix flashlight, they have packed up after about four, five years use as field, bike light.i switch to Malkoff. This has worked spot on for four years, it's been through three 18650 rechargeable batteries. You can get much more powerful been version today.
Once again, your review has guided a purchase decision. Based on your excellent comparison and discussion of the pros and cons and my evaluation based there on, I purchased a Nitecore P10iX. A couple features the P10iX does have that you mentioned were missing on the Fenx tipped the scale. I really appreciate that you review excellent products and briefly, and succinctly, compare similar products. I do find for general use that flood lighting at near distance is more useful than spot lighting at greater distance. I should mention that I’ve owned and used numerous tactical flashlights over the last 30 years, mostly Surefire. But now I need a good general purpose house, shop, camping, walking the dog light rather than a purely tactical tool. Your review makes an excellent case for the Fenix and similar products.
Wonderful review. I was undecided on which Fenix flashlight I'd buy before, but this gave me the info I needed to make a decision. I'll be getting this one :)
Bought this light and love it so far, I’ve done some demonstrations of defense on my coworkers and absolutely stunned them with the strobe lol it works
Being an owner and a fan of the good ol' NiteCore P12GT, Ive been looking for an alternative of it and I think I finally found it in the Fenix TK16 v 2.0 & the Fenix TK22 TAC. Great channel, subscribed and greetings from your humble NATO partner - Bulgaria
Thank you Jon! I very much like how you take the time to explain I can easily understand. I purchased before watching and will receive the TK16 -2 next week. I also ordered the filter lenses. Yes it is to bad they couldn't make a decent "pouch", rather disappointing but Fenix does have other nylon belt "pouches" which are much more durable. I hope to see more of your videos.
A fantastic review of a fantastic Fenix flashlight i really want to get this torch now after seeing your review i can remember when people used use the relly long Mag lights i really like this one thanks for sharing your thoughts with us 👍🏻
Thanks for this video. I had been put off earlier when shopping for advanced flashlights because the UIs always seem like a labyrinth that I won't remember in the dark after just waking up, especially when you are comparison-shopping 5 makes across 14 models across 22 browser tabs and trying to remember and cross-reference various details. This video sold me on the Fenix TK16 v2 because it seems easy enough. I ordered it.
I carry this as EDC in a bodyshop and use it no less than 50 times a day. I love it all settings. I own 6 Fenix lights and live them all! Best bang for the price!!!! My Surefire 500 lumen headlamp has failed before any of my Fenix lights and it was 3 times the price
Good review. I have a TK16 V2 myself. Its part of my edc lineup. It's a great torch! Can't go wrong with fenix Nitecore P20i (first choice) Fenix TK16 V2 Olight M2R pro
I carry this flashlight in my 5.11 pants when I'm on duty as a firefighter, it's much brighter than the hand lights the department has on the trucks! I wish that Fenix would make a coat light similar to the Streamlight Survivor but much brighter. All of us carry the Survivor on our turnout gear but its getting pretty dated. I love this light!
The tk16 is an amazing flashlight I use it daily I have found only one issue with it and it's not really a big deal but I thought it was breaking it kept turning off or blinking and it was that the head was just a millimeter unscrewed and when that happens it loses connectivity so if you have problems with your Fenix tk16 check to make sure that the head is screwed all the way on and tight before calling them or sending it back
@@JonGadget what a great idea I have traveled with mine and worried about it accidentally being turned on in my bag and catching things on fire so I would take the battery out how funny the problem was a solution staring me in the face the whole time thanks." As iron sharpens iron so does man sharpen man".
I switched my EDC lights from Fenix to Oligh… there’s nothing between them in terms of performance but Olight has a far superior user interface with the ability to go from off, directly to moonlight, turbo, strobe, or somewhere in between. I also like the Olight magnetic charger, despite the proprietary batteries, they’re weather proof and very handy for charging in a vehicle.
I tend to alternate between the two. The Olight Warrior 3 is superior to the TK16 in many ways-- like you mentioned, it has a better interface, instant battery indicator, a moonlight mode, and the clip is better. But I do prefer the wider beam profile and dual tailcap buttons of the TK16.
Let me say this, I'm a kydex holster maker and own a bunch of high-end flashlights as I Use them to get measurements to make the molds and use the flashlights to do a final tuning on the holsters. While, Olight, Fenix, Thrunite, Klarus and Nitecore came a long way and the first companies to adopt the 18650 and 21700 batteries. For one they tend advertise a a bit more lumens than what the flashlights really have, other thing I noticed their anodized finished is not as good as the big dogs. If I had to choose I'll stick with Surefire, Pelican and Streamlight.
One big downside on the Olight UI is that if you run them on a lower mode and than use the turbo or strobe over the tail button its only momentary and turns of totally if you release it. The TK16 goes back to your last light mode after using the direct strobe button. But the best UI has the Nextorch TA30 tactical and their variants!
Excellent review Mr Gadget! I totally agree with you on the moon mode! Fenix customers have been asking the company for years now but for some reason they refuse to incorporate this into most of their torches.... Other than that this torch kicks tactical ass!!
Thank you for your very comprehensive and well thought-out review which convinced me to buy the TK16, a decision I am really happy about. Too bad about the pouch though.
I totally agree. I‘ve got the TK16 V2.0 too, a great tactical flashlight. For EDC, I‘ve got the E28R which is grat too, but it has an external loading port. That‘s in my opignong worse than the internal one.

I own two of them, one is mounted to my rifle (I'm an animal control officer in the states) the other is on me at all times. I've had zero problems with them both and bought a couple extra batteries and they hold a good charge after a few months of sitting in my truck with temp swings down to below freezing.
I bought a fenix pd30 (Premium q5) about 6 years ago to replace a surefire I accidentally burnt out by leaving on in my bumbag. The fenix is brilliant and indestructible. I am still using it now, just replaced 2x 123 batteries. 3x light levels or twist it for full power. Best torch I have ever bought. Got it off Torchworld, which unfortunately appears to have folded in 2018...fenix=quality
The double spring design of this flashlight allows for more reliable use during the discharge of weapons as in the 12 gauge shotgun. Very much on par with competitive flashlight that areNear three times the price.
Excellent review. I have been a Fenix fan for over 10 years now. I have one of the older TK models but it is nowhere as powerful as this newer model. You know what that means don't you? Yup - time for an upgrade.
A lot of people confuse the purposes of a tactical flashlight and a utility flashlight. The most important thing a tactical flashlight must do is illuminate and possibly blind a target. IMO, a tactical flashlight should really only have one mode, and should have a lock-on/lock-off function to prevent both accidental activation and accidental deactivation if dropped. A utility flashlight should only ever turn on in its lowest brightness mode to preserve night vision as much as possible and to preserve battery life. I think the TK11 is actually a better choice for most civilian users, and probably also a better choice for many LE or Military uses. The TK16 does have the advantage of the larger 21700 battery compared to the TK11’s 18650, but the TK11 has the CR123A option, as well. Rechargeable batteries are preferable for professional constant use, but for the civilian user, who is more likely to truly need a tactical light rarely to never, primary cells are preferable, because they do not self-discharge the way rechargeables will, with no dangers involved in keeping batteries continually plugged into chargers. Additionally, the operating modes of the TK11 are IMO superior, because it has a switchable Tactical Mode in which only the High and Strobe modes can be selected. The TK16, by contrast, lacks this switchable Tactical Mode, and instead opts for a more confusing two-button interface that almost guarantees errors in high stress life-critical encounters. There’s a reason that most firearms don’t have two different triggers. The TK16 also lacks a lock-off mode, which the TK11 has. Maximum brightness is not the most important feature of a tactical flashlight, and if you look at the runtime chart provided by Fenix for these two models, you will see that in reality, in sustained usage, the TK16 is actually not much brighter than the TK11 over the approximate 2h runtime in their High modes. Lastly, a low power mode shouldn’t be on a tactical flashlight, at all. It’s a much better idea to carry a separate utility light for that, because you always want to be certain your tactical light has 100% battery capacity for when you need it. At least the TK11 can be left in Tactical Mode, the TK16 cannot.
Thanks for the very detailed and informative feedback Gemma. I still though prefer the TK16 - my reasons are tungsten steel strike bezel, brighter output, stronger beam, better battery life, 1000 lm vs 750 lm after drop down. I also think the TK16 interface is easier to operate instinctively (can't select wrong mode by accident). Something I didn't mention in the video - Un-twisting the tail cap on the TK16 by quarter of a turn acts as effective lock-out! It's good to have the choice though 👍
@@JonGadget I just found out about the PD36 TAC (now shipping) and the TK28 TAC (due by the end of the Summer, according to Fenix). Both have the same operating mechanism as the TK11, but use the 21700 battery. I'm waiting for full specs on the TK28 TAC to be released, but Fenix tells me it will have the same maximum brightness.
@@JonGadget The TK28 TAC is not yet shipping. Fenix' US division told me they expected it to be shipping by the end of the Summer, but here we are and it's not yet available. I ended up buying the PD36 TAC, and I could not be happier.
looool! superb british humor mate! so .. dry. love it. "... aluminum - if you are in the states - i have no idea what that is ..." edith: best review i've seen on this "lamp".
I have a Fenix UC35 V2 and it is my favorite next to my MT14 from Led Lenser the Fenix has a moonlight mode with 1 lumen brightness which is perfect for the middle of the night when you have to go to the loo whilst camping or even at home or searching something in otherwise complete darkness , the flashlight is also very well made it feels solid and never failed in the slightest, the battery connection is absolutely strong so it never thinks about flickering or anything like that, the only thing I would want to have on it is being able to switch from spot to floodlight like with the MT14 otherwise I’d buy Fenix again 😊
Great review as always. I feel I know everything there is to know about a product when you review it! I'm not a tactical user but I'd think that an instant-turbo option is a must. Maybe the strobe acts the same way for the tactical users and I don't get it since I'm not the target of this product. What would you need 1000+ lmns for, if I may ask? 🤓 Have a greak weekend Sir! Eyal
Hi Eyal 😀 if you go to turbo just before you switch off it will come on at turbo setting. I guess super bright is good for short bursts when you need daylight or a blast of long range.
Thanks for the review. This is a very nice light for sure, but it’s runtime claimed by Fenix is very misleading. I’ve tried it twice now on ‘high mode’ and the best it will achieve is 1h 30mins which is way off the ‘2hrs 50mins’ Fenix states…. Mmmm

Fenix makes great flashlights. I have and love the Fenix PD36 TAC. Very similar but I like the tail switch better on the PD36 TAC.
Put a battery level indicator and a moonlight mode to it, and it would be the perfect thing.
yes - I agree 👍
Ugh - I just bought a PD36 Tac, but now I want this one too.
both good!
Go on, just get it anyway.

@@gcvrsa The TK28 TAC is available now - do you mean a v.2 is due end of Summer?
@@JonGadget The TK28 TAC is not yet shipping. Fenix' US division told me they expected it to be shipping by the end of the Summer, but here we are and it's not yet available. I ended up buying the PD36 TAC, and I could not be happier.
@@gcvrsa they make some great flashlights - I prefer the longer throw of the 16 but the rotary tail switch looks interesting on yours 👍
looool! superb british humor mate! so .. dry. love it.

edith: best review i've seen on this "lamp".
Thanks, great vid, clear and well explained
I wonder how it compares to the SP33v3 When price is factored into the equation?
The Sofirn is very affordable but I've not had one to play with to compare
Olight all day. But want one of these
I like Olight too
I have a Fenix UC35 V2 and it is my favorite next to my MT14 from Led Lenser the Fenix has a moonlight mode with 1 lumen brightness which is perfect for the middle of the night when you have to go to the loo whilst camping or even at home or searching something in otherwise complete darkness , the flashlight is also very well made it feels solid and never failed in the slightest, the battery connection is absolutely strong so it never thinks about flickering or anything like that, the only thing I would want to have on it is being able to switch from spot to floodlight like with the MT14 otherwise I’d buy Fenix again 😊
Excellent review!!!
Thanks for watching
what watch are you wearing? do a review on it!
Excellent review
🙏
I just wish I can find a better holster if i was to buy the tk16 like the holster lime the p20ix has
Good light,better price.thanks
And Fenix gave me 20% off when ordering direct from their site so I paid $79.99.
Sweet!
excellent 😊
What an awesome review 👍🏼 I will get one of these along with an extra battery. I don’t think that price is too much for a quality product.
Have a greak weekend Sir!
Mmmm
that is disappointing to hear
Hey Jonathan you made a good choice very very nice flashlight and thank you for this video you did such a great job I subscribe to your channel I think you're wonderful thank you again your best friend from Atlanta Georgia 🇺🇸😎😎🖐️💖
Thanks for the kind words Joe, welcome to the channel.
Can you please compare it to MS03 from imalent?
Great review.....
Hi 👋 I think this is the best explanation for a flashlight 🔦 from you tube. I subscribe and possible buy this fenix 👍
Thank you for the feedback - really appreciated 🙏
whats better for self defence to blind an attacker, a beam that focuses or floods?
a narrow beam needs to be more precise when aimed but will have more candela (concentrated light) for the same lumens - so it's a balance
