Inflation has gone through the roof the past 5yrs. making us all turn into our fathers--I remember when a loaf of bread cost a nickel...what the hell, it's the same loaf of bread!!!
Nice outdoor shower Jon! I have also been doing the “modified” cold shower routine. I start with a warm and then go cold, probably not as effective. I hope you have been practicing your hammer flip for Maker Camp. Hope to see you there!
What a great project Jon!! I think the red stone will help in blending the spacing in the boards. I have a few videos to get caught up on. Hoping all is well Bud, Dirty Jersey out!!
Hey Jon, be interested to know how the cold showers are working for you in another video. Have you read “The Wim Hoff Method” ? Great outdoor shower, by the way!
Thanks, Chuck! Yeah, we have hot and cold… But I’ve been on a cold shower kick now for a few months. Takes a little getting used to, but makes you feel great. You should try it.😂
Looks good Jon. The last half of the video I had problems paying attention to what you were saying since all I could hear was my dad screaming "turn of the water".
Interesting use of wax and then propane it into end grain. I would think the propane would melt off wax and open up the end grains. I’ve always used a slight layer of glue and sometimes a second coat to harden it up and close off all grain.
Very nice, Jon~! Really like the look of that. Seems odd to use Mahogany for a project like that, but like you said, a different species than what would go in furniture and go with what ya got~! lol
Thanks Andrew, yeah, it’s definitely a little different than the mahogany were used to. Good for a project like this, but I wouldn’t want to build a piece of furniture with it
Yeah buying bags of gravel vs bulk is about 3x the cost but unfortunately that’s the pain of smaller projects. Most landscape supply places won’t deliver less than 3 cu yds so it’s either buy bagged or get your truck bed trashed picking it up yourself.
I remember picking up my 1st Truck bed full of white river rock, threw in a bed comforter to semi protect the bed and make it easy to clean up. Fckt up the math and the loader bottomed my suspension 😂.
I did think about having the stone delivered… But then there was a delivery charge and the shoveling to think about. But for sure, much cheaper to buy the stone in bulk 👍
I don’t know what you are talking about things being expensive. Didn’t you hear the people in government telling us that things have never been as good as they now are?!? Thanks for another great video :)
True story: Here in LA, I have an outdoor shower under a tree, and when I my head was all soaped up and my eyes closed, I heard a thump next to me. I knew immediately it was a king snake that had dropped out of the tree. I don’t know if I have ever felt more vulnerable in my life. By the way, guys, if you are not building a shower that will be seen by the public, you could do this a lot cheaper with a $30 Waterpic showerhead, galvanized pipe from Home Depot, fake wood boards, and Pex. I did buy a hot-cold mixer online for maybe $40. I also installed a ball we shut off between the showerhead and the mixer, so I can leave the hot/cold mix the way I like it during any given shower. (And for a couple hundred bucks, you can buy a 2.5 gallon 110v water heater.) I probably spent $320. My neighbors, meantime, spent probably $1000 on solid plumbing, redwood enclosure, a copper showerhead, etc., and their’s only cold water. But yes, it looks better.
My son did something like that and it really works great. We have hot and cold water that we plumbed in about 23 years ago so the cost was only for the materials I needed for the platform.. crazy how expensive things are I can’t imagine building a deck right now.

7:40 - $630!
That’s what buyers need to hear. Things are crazy out there.
Gorgeous simple design here that I wish I had on my patio.
Thanks! Yeah, things are crazy expensive.

@@branchandfoundry560 😂 that’s for sure Andrew
Corporate greed. Stock market has hit historic highs.
Ooh love this!
Thanks!
Great job and you'll get a lot of use out of that shower since you have so much lawn to take care of. Your landscaping always looks so beautiful!
Thanks!
Thank you.
Welcome!👍
Really beautiful work, Jon! It looks fantastic! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thanks!

Hey Ted! Thanks… definitely wakes you up👍
For sure ! It’ll be here before you know it. I better start practicing.😂
Love this! Looks great, glad to know the difference between the Sappo and regular mahogany
Thanks!
Sweet…very nice jon
Thanks!

Thanks Mike!
Nicely done! That turned out great Jon! Also, totally agree with you on what things cost today, it's crazy! 👍👍🔨🔨
Thanks Steve! It really is nuts!
Its nice to see that at last the US is getting near on prices that we have been paying for years in the UK and things are still going up.
I’m really not sure how young people will ever be able to afford a house.
@@JonPetersArtHome Yes same here both my sons have had to move to a cheaper area.

Jon - Great video. Nice work. It looks like you have hot water run already. Thumbs up.

Thanks! … 😂😂😂 that’s funny! Me too
Interesting use of wax and then propane it into end grain. I would think the propane would melt off wax and open up the end grains. I’ve always used a slight layer of glue and sometimes a second coat to harden it up and close off all grain.
The propane torch helps to suck the wax deep into the wood pores.

When you say it got expensive, you were not joking !!
And just cold showers, you should be a member of the Polor Bear club. Tough man 👍
😂😂😂 really wakes you up! All joking aside it makes you feel great.

Cost savings on a couple projects this size would pay for a utility trailer.
I’m on the Huberman cold shower routine too. More infusion of blood into the gonads. 💪😂
😂😂😂 that’s true… definitely wakes you up and makes you feel great!
Nice! I also see an 'old friend' from an earlier video that's holding the hose..
Good eye, thanks Jack!
The shower looks great ! Aside from melting the beeswax, does using a torch help seal the end grain at all ? Great video 🙂
Thanks! The heat from the torch helps to suck the wax into the wood pores.
Great project but what I don't understand is where is the water going?
Thanks, the water will eventually drain into the soil… Having the dry well will keep it from puddling.

Okay, now I get it. Thank you.
Nice job, Jon. I've never heard of burning wax like that. What does it do?
Bill
I’d like to know too
Thanks Bill, the heat from the torch sucks the beeswax deep into the wood cells.

I know 🤦♂️
Just be happy you are 'merican. Things are double in the world outside USA, across the water in mideval Europe

@@JonPetersArtHome A guy started building a spec house on the lot next to mine … in the winter of 2020.
23 year ago it would have been $200 flat ..thats what time does ..eats away at your pocket book !
Or maybe even less👍
