"It didn't set shit up"
But it did
You may not realize that upon first watching but Monarch is the leading thread throughout the entire "Legendary" "Monsterverse"
Bill Randa, the dude played by John Goodman, is Monarch's founder, and Monarch keeps popping back up in every Godzilla/Kong film, and they even made a TV show that released recently called "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters" that goes even deeper into the founding of Monarch and their interactions over the years.
It sets up the existence of Kong
It also sets up Skull Island, which Kong still inhabits in Godzilla vs Kong (though Monarch built a dome around it, which he throws a tree at in the beginning of that movie)
It sets up that Kong's parents are dead, his entire reason for visiting the hollow Earth in GvK is that there might be more of his species alive there (that's what the humans tell him anyway)
Is it integral to watching GvK? Probably not. But by that logic you don't have to watch Godzilla 2014 and Godzilla: King of the Monsters either.
It helps you simply understand this version of Kong going into the next movie.
You have to remember that for twins, they only share one brain. They like Godzilla FFS, a useless character that's movies never make money. Gee I wonder why? /s.
And the reason that movie didn't make money, but this one did, is because the better actors/characters weren't in it.@@thedogwoods5716
The Skull Crawlers that Mechagodzilla was tested against first appeared in this movie. The first mention of the theory of Hollow Earth appears in this movie. The explanation of where the girl, Jia, came from and who her people were, is explained here. The reason Kong was known to Monarch but no one else is explained here. The cave paintings showing, before King of the Monsters, that Rodan, Mothra, and Ghidorah exist is shown here. A lot is foreshadowed in this movie for the two that follow.
Thank you, someone has actually paid attention!
You can tell they didn't really pay attention
Kinda odd that monsters from the real Godzilla series, have an appearance/mention in a King Kong movie.
@@rdramos13not really if they’re setting up a shared universe. 🤷🏻♂️ which is what they did. makes sense.
@Bobzilla2023 Just because it made a lot of money, doesn't mean it was a good movie. Yes it was a success in terms of profit, earning $470 million. But the movie cost an estimated $330 million to make/advertise. So actually only earning $140 million in profit.
This movie set up how BIG Kong was too. In the last movie he climbed the Empire State Building😂
not even the same universe.
@@omega311888 never said it was… literally the last live action movie he was 30ft tall.
The reason the Skullcrawler knocked the guy away is cause in the wild. When a prey animal shows no fear of a predator, it usually means they’re poisonous. So while the Big One didn’t know what explosives are, it definitely knew this guy could probably hurt her if she ate him
The fact that you have to explain that...
There's a myriad of reasons why the creature used its tail rather than eating him. I dont get why kids get hung up on details like that as if every reason for anything happening needs to be spelled out.
@@SubterrelProspector I'm working on a doctorate for hepatology (study of reptiles). It's just something I enjoy reading into when watching monster movies and trying to come up with scientific reasons.
You may just want to take it at face value, but this is fun for me
@@nicksmyth4050 Dude that's awesome. I'm saying it's sad you feel like you have to explain stuff from the movie to these guys. It's like they can't reason something unless it's blatantly obvious.
They like Godzilla, a mindless lizard. They NEED it spelled out for them. lol.@@SubterrelProspector
I love how Kong rips out that one Skullcrawler's guts, much to the disgust of the human visitors.
And he somehow didn't crush Brie Larson to death in the process. He caught her with that same hand, and didn't let her go until after the the SK was killed.
@@rdramos13
Even in the throes of battle, that is surprisingly gentle
Ah yes you guys baited us. Nice excuse lmao.
What’d you mean it didn’t set anything up for GvK, it had a post-credits scene for GKOTM and also a skullcrawler appeared in GvK in the scene with mechagodzilla and we also saw skullcrawler eggs in the subway vehicle on the way to where mechagodzilla was
They didn’t pay attention
@@tmac731 They rarely even do, they like Godzilla FFS.
The two main ties to Godzilla vs. Kong is an after credits scene, and the Monarch organization that appears throughout the series is formed by John Goodman in this movie. You didn’t *have* to watch this, but like, why not?
Also an older version of the character of Houston Brooks is in KOTM. Plus the whole mentioning of the hollow earth stuff begins here.
Why not? Because this movie was made in the hopes it's audience had the attention span shorter than a TikTok video. This movie shows and sets up scenes to it's audience vey well. Then the very next scene, just dismisses what they just showed us. The gas field was so dangerous, that a cigarette caused an explosion...ok gotcha. But same field doesn't do a damn thing when a flamethrower enters the scene.
Watching Kong isn’t about it being required for information, it’s about being part of the same Universe. It’s like Watching Avengers without watching any of the previous solo films, they’re not technically required, but it’s just wrong to skip em.
Kinda like squeezing in King Kong in a Godzilla story/franchise.
@@rdramos13lol apparently you just hate this movie and don’t understand the different timelines in these franchises lol it can’t be “squeezing in” if it was 100% the plane to make a shared universe/monsterverse from the beginning 😂lol. Btw King Kong and Godzilla battled it out decades ago in 1962. You should watch more of these movies to learn more! :) unless you just hate these which is fine lol
@@scaredy-cat2215. Wait till he finds out Godzilla would be literally nothing as he is today without King Kong haha. It was the success of that very 1962 film that then kickstarted the rest of Godzilla’s franchise.
@scaredy-cat2215 That was just a one off movie, not a serious tie in. King Kong doesn't have a "franchise"... it's just one story that has been turned into a movie several times. Yes there's been numerous on off comics and adventure novels, but they don't "expand" an Kong franchise.
Godzilla started off as a one off movie, but has continuously added to the story of Godzilla, creating franchise. Every movie, manga, and anime, expanded the franchise/world. There's more Godzilla movies than any other movie franchises out. More Godzilla movies than MCU and James Bond.
So yes, this TikTok attention span of a movie, was squeezing in King Kong, into a Godzilla franchise. Other than Skull Crawlers, every major monster that's fought, are from Godzilla universe. Mothra, Rodan, King Ghidorah, Mechagodzilla, etc etc.
@Bobzilla2023 Godzilla never needed King Kong. Godzilla never needed Hollywood to make it a movie. Godzilla Minus One just showed how dumb this Hollywood, Kong squeeze in, really is. If anything, Hollywood has only inspired Toho to keep expanding the on the real Godzilla universe.
The thing to know about this movie is that Kong is basically still a teen. Which is why he is so big in gorilla vs kong. He's fully grown by then
So he was an infant when he was crawling up the Empire State Building?
@@rdramos13 no. That Kong isn't the same. This is a completely different universe

I’m glad you guys decided to give this movie a chance.
Maybe just admit you guys were being dismissive. Cause you were. And we were not "bugging" out. We just knew you were skipping a part of the overall story.
It's not about just knowing "information" btw (which is a really cynical reason to watch a movie) it was so you guys had greater context for the story.
Next time either take our word for it or at least skip it for an actual reason.
Oof… just admit you guys fucked up 😂 and forgot to watch the movies in order. Not exactly a good look to play dumb about it and pretend like your audience is the one in the wrong. 🤦♂️
There’s literally all sorts of background data in this movie. In regards to hollow earth, skull island, and monarch… William Randa… if you’d have watched it first you wouldn’t of wondered what skull island was, you wouldn’t of wondered what was going on with the Mech and skull crawlers in the test bay. You woulda understood where the little deaf girl came from… and I’d argue this is absolutely necessary for anyone that wants to see Monarch on Apple+
Shut up
Loki, Nicholas J. Fury, Captain Marvel, and Corpsman Rhomann Dey together in a non-MCU movie. I’m loving it.
It's not about the characters in this film being in the next one, it's about Kong's background, the origin of the monster eggs and monster that they had attack Mechagodzilla, And who and what Monarch is. It explains a lot of things that were in GvK, so that movie isn't confusing.
The fact is that movie sucked and didn't make any money because Godzilla is a useless character, and none of these characters were in it. And Skaarsgard doesn't help any movie.
@@radicalreactions1633 That movie made $470 million. That's a bit more than not making any money.

They're being annoying about it too. They're so stubborn.
the actor playing Chapman, is also the one who did the mo-cap for Kong.
Really? Huh, that's cool to know. Thank you.
It all gets connected in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.
Okay so to clarify what exactly this film explained that connected to the other films besides just Kong himself.
1. Hollow Earth was first introduced in this film. Yes Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs. Kong showed it, but it was this film that first brought it into the franchise. Had you watched it after Godzilla 2014 the whole Hollow Earth thing would’ve made a lot more sense as to why they suddenly brought it up in Godzilla: King of the Monsters.
2. There actually is a returning character from this film. The young black guy with the glasses, that character actually shows back up in Godzilla: King of the Monsters. He’s in the scene where Mothra awakens. (Granted because that character is much older in that film, so he had to be played by a different actor, it’s still a tie-in to Kong: Skull Island)
3. The post credits scene. It was literally supposed to hype up the next film, Godzilla: King of the Monsters. It’s to show that Godzilla, Ghidorah, Rodan, and Mothra once encountered each other in the past, thus hyping up for their next encounter in Godzilla: King of the Monsters.
4. The presence of Kong’s character in the Monsterverse is there to insinuate the thoughts of what Kong was doing during the films he wasn’t shown in the other 2 Godzilla films before GvK. For instance, when Ghidorah did his Alpha Call in GKOTM, what was Kong doing? The Call was heard around the whole world so obviously Kong must’ve heard it. And yet he didn’t respond to Ghidorah, proving Kong simply chose to ignore it. It means Kong doesn’t bow to any of Titan. It explains why in GvK why even in defeat he still chose to oppose Godzilla’s own Alpha Roar.
5. The Iwis (natives of Skull Island.) Them being in this films is supposed to explain where the little deaf girl (Jia) came from. She is the last remaining member of the Iwi tribe and the fact her people once worshipped Kong explains why Kong has such a strong connection to her, and her to him. The reason why Kong is in that giant contained world in GvK is because the storm outside the container wasn’t always there. It was the massive storm that once surrounded the island. (The one the helicopters flew through) That same storm managed to hit the mainland and wiped out Jia’s tribe. Monarch built the giant container to keep Kong safe from the storm.
It’s the whole fact that you guys chose to simply skip it and move onto the other films is what ruined this kind of experience for you. Granted, yes, you’re partially right, did you “need” to see this film? Not exactly, but it does help to fill in any kind of gaps or questions you may have about why certain things in GKOTM or GvK suddenly started showing unexplained shit. Or that you may have about why Kong is even in this world. Where did he come from? What purpose is he here for? The answer: Kong is the 2nd Main Titan Character next to Godzilla. Kong is Captain America and Godzilla is Iron Man. Clearly the Monsterverse is going down an Avengers-type storyline. Every hero needs some kind of origin story.
Edit: Also the Skullcrawlers, you saw one getting blasted in half by Mechagodzilla. This film is the first time they were introduced.
👏🏼👏🏽👏🏽👏🏼 Best Comment on here!
You guys didn't know when they were testing Mechagodzilla that that was a skullcrawler that Mechagodzilla killed before it got a chance to eat the humans stuck in that room in Godzilla v Kong. Now you know what a skullcrawler is having watched Kong: Skull Island. Sometimes, context matters. -OG
Also the whole reason why we were all “bugging out” was because YOU GUYS ASSUMED what Kong: Skull Island was going to be about. You guys literally said you thought it was going to be a similar remake to the other King Kong films. If you guys read your comments you’ll see that we were also saying to watch the film so that you can see that it’s literally a different kind of Kong storyline. Not simply just because it has connections to the other Godzilla films (which it still does, I posted a comment describing what those connections were) but also to show you guys that you can’t simply skip a film just because you thought it was going to be some basic King Kong film.
I get you guys have a persona of some sorts when it comes to this channel and all, that I can understand, but have some damn humility when it comes to realizing you guys were wrong about that topic. Be better.
I agree that humility goes a long way and to suggest that people like as you've explained quite clearly that you somehow suck is just embarrassing and they should be more respectful in this regard to the fans.
ABSOLUTELY 100% yes, couldn't have said it any better.
Yeah, their response to this whole thing was like seeing someone say "Why should I have to watch the Raimi Spider-Man movies or The Amazing Spider-Man before watching No Way Home? That would be a stupid waste of time, who wants to see old lame Spider-Man movies, instead of a new one, why are you guys even caring about that? Why's everyone whining about old Spider-Man movies instead of this new one?" ....when actually SEEING No Way Home makes it perfectly CLEAR why people said this.
This is why I’m not subscribing to them. They gotta be humbled
you said this perfectly. tbh, this is why i don't bother subscribing.

Dude, the music 🎶 in this film rocked. It's one of the things that made this movie so cool. Superb soundtrack! Hats off. 👌 -OG
You can't really compare this Kongs fighting abilities to the one in GvK. He is smaller and a teen here. The one in GVK is MUCH bigger, older and wiser.
The John C Riley character states that he is still growing.
Ape Island guys, not monkeys lol. Believe it or not, there is a huge difference between them. Besides monkeys having tails.🐒🙈
The monarch company and the end credits and it shows the theory of hollow earth theory. You watched it out of order that's why you feel that way

Too late. Why would you go into a franchise and skip one of the crucial movies?
I can understand skipping movies bases on not wanting to watch it, personally i don't give a shit I love watching you guys your funny as fuck but if you don't know the order and you skip any movie period I can understand your viewers "WTF they didn't watch Skull Island...it's the second movie...". "Yeah. That was an unconventional encounter. " Favorite line.
There is a Netflix skull Island cartoon series that is Cannon to the monster verse that takes place 20 years after this movie and don't forget about the apple plus monarch legacy of monsters series.
Oh yeah! I saw Skull island netflix series and it was awesome. I can wait for Season 2.
Never said it was needed for continuity. But it is a must see. You wont change my mind. The cinematography was amazing. It introduces King Kong and that he's been fighting Kaiju his entire life and this is just him as a juvenile. Godzilla was only up against 3 before Kong, he almost died twice and needed the humans and Mothra's help for Ghidorah.
Ghidorah ain’t no Scullcrawler.
Are you seriously trying to compare Ghidorah to the skullcrawlers? lmaooooo. Kong wouldn't survive a second against Ghidorah. Also, Godzilla "needed" help because humans messed godzilla up when he was fighting ghidorah in the ocean. Godzilla would have def killed ghidorah in the ocean but because humans dropped the O2 destroyer, he couldn't. Like, are you just trying to be dumb or just ignorant, how do you not see ANY of this?
@@sxd9573 Nah, Kong would survive like 5 mins against ghidorah then get lifted to the stratosphere and die
The reason why you really needed to watch this movies is because it’s the best movie in the monster verse
It's not but ok
@@sxd9573 it is though the human characters are the best they have ever been in the monster verse, the fights were entertaining the titans were interesting and we got the new and improved Kong which is the most iconic character in movie history what more do you want
@@slgaming3277 I don't understand why the human characters matter in a giant monster fight movie, the monsters have to be good that's it and KOTM was the best monsterverse movie because it has the BEST fights HANDS DOWN, not even a debate, the sheer scale, the power, the disasters that come from them fighting, the MULTIPLE monster appearances, the AMAZING cinematography which was some of the scenes so fantastical to see and were visually orgasmic. Skull island had maybe 2 or 3 shots that I would describe the same way. The human characters were mid in KOTM but again they are insignificant and shouldn't matter. They just exist because studios need to control their budget because they can't be showing monsters all the time and also to drive the plot forward, that's it. These movies are about the monsters and that's it. Don't get me wrong, Skull island is a great movie, def no.2 for me but KOTM is easily the best, not even a debate.
@@sxd9573 yes but bad human characters take away from the movie and if you can get the human characters right with good titan action you have a good movie you just sound like someone who is a massive Godzilla fan who hates Kong because Godzilla vs King was better than KOTM
@@slgaming3277 yes that is true in cases other than monsterverse movies. In the case of monsterverse movies bad human characters don't take away shit from the movie because they're not the focus of the movie at all. Ppl like you who focus on the insignificant shit in a movie and critique it hence causing the movie to fail or have a bad rep should stop watching these movies and focus on more human heavy movies. Also, did I EVER say I didn't like Kong? No, you just assumed because I had a differing opinion from you. I def don't hate Kong, In fact he's my third fav titan. Godzilla is my fav but that doesn't mean I don't like Kong or I don't like this movie. In fact, it seems like YOU are the butthurt Kong fanboy who hates anything Godzilla related. Also, GVK was imo the worst monsterverse movie ever, the plot was trash, the pacing was trash, so many things didnt make sense, it was goofy af, took away the seriousness from the past movies, it was boring for the most part, the only thing it had going for it are the monster fights. I'm sorry, KOTM is the best monsterverse film YET and there's nothing that's gonna change it. 👎
Arguably the best movie in the Monsterverse. Not only was the action great, but the Vietnam-era setting and casting was a great combination of features. Here's hoping the next Godzilla and Kong continues the fun this franchise has.

This movie was the best in the series so far ...
In my opinion
- The outfit worn by Bill Randa (played by John Goodman) looks just like the outfit worn Carl Denham (Robert Armstrong) in King Kong (1933)
- Samuel L Jackson says " Hold on to your butts!" which is a reference to his character in Jurassic Park
- The poster for the IMAX release is an homage to Apocalypse Now
- The names of Marlow & Conrad are maybe a reference to Joseph Conrad & the lead character Marlow from his novella Heart of Darkness
32:07 except for a skull crawler and the tribe from this movie was referenced in G v K as well through the girl who spoke in sign language, most importantly Monarch being involved was the biggest detail of all at least in my opinion that tied this movie to G v K
Great reaction, though you guys seemed a bit mean-spirited to your viewers who requested it. I wasn't part of those comments, but it's kinda disappointing that you couldn't find the reasoning to appreciate why folks wanted you to watch. This movie was essentially Kong's origin story. Even if doesn't NEED to be watched for GvK, it's still a solid foundation to have started the monsterverse and shouldn't have been skipped. Monarch, the skullcrawlers, the Islanders, and end credit scene all lead to GvK. Saying people bugged out and that they suck for simply wanting you to be part of the full universe was kinda uncalled for, imo. Anywayz, just my two cents.
I know it’s been two months, but this is how they are😂😂 don’t take it to the heart. This movie is very underrated

You must have skipped the rest of the video as they do mention it.
I love how they are in helicopters and just one after another fly right in arms reach 10 min after he knocks the first one out of the air. Like they just have no choice. I guess Kong has a tractor beam. Really, really good writing and directing.
Or the whole trip there, they show us three helicopters on deck. But when they take off, at mission start, there's like fifty of them.
Or the gas field that was so dangerous, that a lit cigarette caused an explosion. But that same field does absolutely nothing when a flamethrower shows up.
28:15 LOL 😂😂😂😂😂
Did you guys watch the original 1933 classic King Kong?
Additionally, Monarch (the organization) appears in Kong Skull Island and ties many of the elements together. It isn't required - but man it sets the stage for where he came from... such a great movie.
If wanting you guys to watch this makes me a master baiter im glad to do so. Its like getting upset over being given free food. Why get upset over free pizza? To be fair I made sure to leave it up to your discression. I gave my reasons on why you should watch if you guys so chose to. I didnt want to pressure you guys.
It doesnt tie in at all to godzilla vs kong. The only thing it does is set up the fact the world knows kong and skull island exists. It helps set up monarchs global status. While it isnt necessary they couldve just been going on behind the scenes not being shown in the films. This helps tie it in somewhat. I think it definitely wouldve been better if they took some of the human actors from this film and had them in that film.
The humans in this movie were so much more likable. Samuel L Jackson had some great lines. The ww2 vet character was hilarious. Even the guy who died with the camera that started the expidition was funny before he died.
I think that scene where the guy sacrificed himself with the nades was the directors taking a shot at people who try to act like a hero and end up sacrificing themselves for nothing. Which makes sense when its a human vs a kaiju. Context matters. If that wasnt scripted it was definitely left in for comedic value after seeing it in post production.
Also the guy who pecked apart by the birds was like the directors reference to the movie birds and how terrifying they can actually be. They clearly had too many people alive at the end so the director probably went innie minnie miny.... nerd. They also clearly foreshadowed the birds being involved when they had Samuel L Jackson blow ones head off and the rest scattered. It wouldve been an awkawrd scene to include if they didnt include them somehow. The bird was just getting payback for his friend.
So this movie does have some scenes that seem pointless but when you look back they are actually foreshadowed quite a bit or have some kind of meaning. The music montages can get a little excessive but I think thats to sort of set the mood for a sudden change. Like how they had kong come in and tear the helicopters a new one after they started bombing the island. That sudden shift from alls going well and we got the tunes going to all of a sudden.... "were under attack by a giant monkey! Mayday mayday!! chopper 1 is going down!!! Chopper 2 has been taken out!!!! I repeat chopper 2 is fubar sir!!!!" It reminds me of a quote a character says in the 1st predator movie with arnold. He goes "imma have a good time tonight! Imma have a good time tonight!!" like he is singing to himself to maintain his sanity. Its a goofy scene but works well.
They all tied together well in the end while keeping your attention. Could they have turned down the humor or some other elements at times.... sure I guess. To me it seems like the creators said go big or go home. Which in a way is kind of fitting for a kaiju film. They said there is never too much only a need for improvement or to develop things better. In the end it kept audiences glued to the screen, enjoying themselves, and had everything fit in the film in some way or another. So it makes sense afterwatching it and looking back. But while watching the film for the 1st time you might feel like whats this got to do with anything or well... that was stupid. In terms of making the film entertaining it certainly does so. Unlike Godzilla King Kong doesnt really represent much as a kaiju. Godzilla represents the destruction and catastrophy that follows nuclear war. So it makes sense for his films to have less humor and be more serious half the time. King Kong is just Hollywoods American kaiju monkey money maker. He is there because if Japan gets a giant monster we have to have a giant monster too. So I think this film does wonders making Kong scary and a threat while keeping that American Hollywood cinematic feel to it.
Its the merica kaiju movie. I would much rather see that than all the inclusivity and representation bull hollywood is currently doing. America is the land of the free. Not the land of the free to be taken advantage of.
I loved seeing all the military movie like quotes or gimmicks. Having that one song play during the chopper scene is kind of iconic since its known as a vietnam war era rock song. Its used a lot in military movies or games during chopper or aircraft scenes.
P.s: They actually made a king kong movie where the ending makes you feel joyful. Afterall, Kong isnt dead and the ww2 vet gets to see his family again. Who wouldnt like that.
King Kong from 2005 directed by peter jackson is worth checking out personal favourite of mine
If everyone was bugging out, let me tell you one thing, let me help you guys up. Watch a lore video and only watch half of it, explaining all the movies that you actually saw And you figure out how dumb you guys are, it's the timeline
I AGREE!
In nature when a small animal shows itself to a predator like if saying "here i am, what you gonna do?" is because it's filled with venom, like those little yellow frogs that can kill an elephant. So when the guy walked to the skull crawler it probably thought the guy was dangerous so instead of eating him it tossed away.
I think the biggest thing is just to watch all the films. Except at the beginning of Godzilla vs Kong they recreate skull Island for Kong. But this movie is so much better than any of the Godzilla movies or Godzilla vs Kong. I mean I liked all of them but the technology that they use in all of the Godzilla films and the overabundance on CGI just doesn't do much for me. Don't get me wrong there's a lot of CGI in this movie but it is so fucking good and I like films like this that take place in the past. They use real life weapons of the time instead of all this insane futuristic shit. For me I think this was the best of any of the films in the modern storyline
agree that this is the best film in the franchise!
We wanted you to experience the build up Ike the rest of us did. Do want to watch movies in order for the excitement to see what's next. That's on you guys. Glad you watched it.
Bill Randa’s death is so sad with Legacy of Monsters in mind
Oh they sooooo HAVE to watch Monarch: Legacy of Monsters now that you mention it! R.I.P William "Billy" Randa
Man, you guys didn't pay attention to the key parts of the movie, and that's somehow our fault?? A lot of things in the monster movies were set up for this film, in both KoM & GvK. That said, the death scene w/ the guy w/ the bomb was indeed hilarious. I was legit feeling sympathetic to the guy, only for him to go out like that, which caused me to laugh hysterically.
These movies are not hard to follow.
Fun film. This film and Godzilla: King of the Monsters are best ones in this series.
The post credits scene sets up Kong vs Godzilla.
28:15 You guys have one of the most contagious laughs 😂😂😂
28:15 you guys are evil bastards for that
4:31 one of the realest jokes
You guys need to see the post credit in this movie all the way at the end of the end credits.
You'll see some appearances you asked for and more.
Let me know what you think.
Yall the goats for listening to the people 💯💯😂
These characters are not in Godzilla v Kong. Is that your pathetic argument? Get over yourselves. You admittedly liked the movie and mentioned one of the scenes was the funniest thing you ever saw.
First off, the story was 1973. Second off, what makes a monster movie? Human characters? No, genius!!!!! Monsters make a monster movie.
Skull Island helped set up Kong's back story. We learn Kong and Godzilla are in the same universe from the post credit scene. There's also a lot of foreshadowing hinted at a hollow earth.
I suppose you guys could have skipped watching the first Godzilla film and gone straight to King of the Monsters because you already know Godzilla, right? Like you say, you know King Kong. There are plenty of older Godzilla films out there.
No? You needed the first Godzilla for context as it's part of this combined monstervese? Okay. Congratulations, you get it now. So, it is the same with Kong. -OG
The end credit scene has godzilla
WITHOUT A PADDLE watch that movie so good
5:04 This ship showing on the newspaper was actually destroyed by none other than Godzilla himself. A bunch of movies introduce Godzilla before he becomes well known from a large US destroyer being mysteriously mauled to scraps.
My favorite film of the MonsterVerse, and probably my favorite cast of the franchise too.
Yay! Y’all are true legends! Thanks for watching this one. I thought it was just going to be another run of the mill Kong movie. Boy was I in for a surprise. I love Samuel L. as a villain. He is so good. Please watch him in Quentin Tarantino’s Jackie Brown.
First thing you do, when KONG Interupts your fight: 1. Crap your pants; 2. Realize that there is a true BILLY BAD ASS, but we are not it: 3. Do a Dorthy Gail, & scream out, THERES NO PLACE LIKE HOME!
I recommend watching the Skull Island animated series and Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, as they further expand the story established in the movies
I didn't saw Monarch Legacy of Monsters series. But I did saw Skull Island Netflix series.
The way they laughed at his death💀💀💀💀
King Kong, with Jack Black, great movie.
Yeaaaaah I'm happy you guys decided to watch it!
I hope you guys watch the King Kong from 2005, it's one of those rare movies that build a fantastic but so believable universe that you need to slowly wake up from it after the end (specially when you're in the movie theater)
if they dreaded this, i doubt they'll watch that one.
“Is that a monkey..?” 😅 gets me every time
Another great reaction guys. Y’all crack me up laughing at the humans meeting their fates. 😂😂👏👏
Damn, you guys actually went back to watch it after U didn't want to, good to see
Have you ever seen movie called Mighty Joe Young? I talking about 1998 remake, because lot of people say it's better than original movie from 1930's, which was from same director who directed original King Kong from 1933.
This movie is really good
You didnt see the very ending when you run into Godzilla at the end. The actor who played Chapman is the same actor who was in Planet of the Apes.
I honestly thought they were redoing King Kong again and I gave this movie a chance. I like how they did Kong and gave him a real threat to fight. Plus I think the grenade sacrifice was meant to go 2 different ways: either be swallowed and take out the big crawler within or let the explosion summon Kong like it happened before.
I think you're right about the grenade sacrifice scene. Also the more you watch it you realize the sacrifice wasn't exactly wasted or useless as most people think when first seeing it. Because even though he wasn't able to harm the skullcrawler with it, he was able to distract it long enough for Kong to swoop in and sucker punch that mug lol
@@nunugirlswag109 exactly. Sometimes you gotta look closer at certain things
While it is not 100% needed for the Godzilla series, it still gives Kong a bit more depth and background to understand him more than in his Godzilla movie
Yeah you don’t really need it for the others, BUT I feel this was more to showcase how they levelled up his intelligence and tactical skills.
The skullcrawler is what is considered a hypervore which means they have a hyper-adrenalized metabolism and are in a constant state of starvation so in order to keep from getting weighted down they throw up the bones of the body and it doesn’t seem like they can digest them to begin with so that’s another reason why they throw up the bones
At this point, 13:00 it should be pointed out that it never crosses anyone's mind to scatter formation, away from the big, giant monkey? I mean, I'd be like, ''Oh, hell no! It's your hood, boss! I'm out, smell you later!''
Glad you guys decided to watch this, you can see why so many people wanted you to watch this before GvK. It sets up the Kong of that universe, because he is different from every Kong before him. You couldn’t really watch GvK without understanding this Kong and why he is known by Monarch.
Now boys you’re ready…. For the New Empire.
Apparently you missed the part where they clearly stated they don't know why you guys were whining so much over their missing it as "It tied nothing to that film [Godzilla vs Kong] at all." and, "There is some people in the comments of Godzilla vs Kong and even our podcast for the three Godzilla films that we did. A lot of people were like, 'How cold you skip it?' 'How could you do this? It sets up King Kong' and stuff like that." Followed by, "It didn't set shit up." and "I didn't have to see that to see Godzilla vs Kong at all."
They went on and on about it for roughly three minutes ending with, "You guys suck."
@@acdcguy18 of course you have to see it! It establishes Kong in that universe. It explains the motives in the Godzilla movies, because they saw Kong.
It’s Kong’s origin story, that’s just fact. Any other statement is ridiculous, even in GvK they made references to Kong Skull Island. Monarch, Skull Islanders, Skullcrawlers, Hollow Earth, Christ even King of the Monsters references this movie!
So no I didn’t miss it, but was a silly excuse. The movie connects to the Monsterverse, they just didn’t like being called out on comparing this movie to previous Kong movies.
@@JackassJunior627 That's fair but I this one can be skipped and not missed. Would like to see other people watch the series excluding this one to see if they're confused on any references to it...
@@acdcguy18 The Monsterverse is a shared universe. So all the movies have to be accounted for to follow the story. Thats the same as deliberately skipping MCU movies just because they aren’t referenced immediately after. Yet they may be referenced in future instalments.
Look at the Marvels. People I know who saw that movie were really confused, but if they saw Ms Marvel, Captain Marvel and Endgame it would make sense.
People I know saw Far from Home and No Way Home but did not see Endgame because they only liked Spider-Man, so naturally they were confused with lines and plot points in the story.
Kong Skull Island is an origin story for Kong just as 2014 Godzilla was Godzilla’s origin story. Both movies pave a path to KOTM, which also paves a way for GvK, which now leads up to The New Empire.
@@acdcguy18 from watching Skull Island..you also better understand the connection between the girl (from GvK) and Kong as that is her tribe. They were just simply wrong when they said there were no connections. To ad Hollow Earth explanations first began here. Also connections to KOTM. An older version of Brooks is in that movie, still talking about hollow earth and it doesn't come across as random info..if you watch the movies in order.
Plus some other stuff
We are talking about a 50 year span between this movie and G vs K,
They don't seem to get anything about anything.
When the guy try to sacrifice himself and got wacked and blew up, the whole audience in the theater laugh. I know they tried to make it seem sad but I couldnt help it and coughing on my drink😅😂
Please watch Mystery Men (1999)! 🌋🍴💀🎳🕺
Totally agree! Best "hero" ensemble piece ever made. (Embarrassingly over the top, great soundtrack)
They are going to live to regret this after-movie review... OctoKrool is gonna be eating crow.
So you guys actually watched it... and then still felt the need to be complete a holes about it? wow.
Why did I ever like you two?
They have no humility and always think they know what's important and not important.
As much as I liked the guy, the grenade scene ended up becoming one of the most hilarious scenes ever. It's like, in any other movie, of course the monster would have ate the guy, but the went against expectations and that sh*t was HILARIOUS! It was set up so seriously though because it's a sacrifice and the guy is losing his friend, but dang. I didn't want to to laugh, but OMG...funny as all get out. lol
All I could think of was the scene in Dragonball Z, when Mr. Satan challenged Cell and Cell just backhanded him into the side of the cliff. I really had to wonder if the film-makers were DBZ fans.
The one with Jack black was great imo
You should watch and react to the original King Kong (1933). It's a classic.
Man y’all dropping bangers 💯💪🏾 but this movie was surprisingly good to me back when I was a sophomore
