    I'm black and I support all movies with people of color. We need to step up and help each other. Last weekend I bought my copy of Crazy Rich Asians on 4K disc.

    Usually those who complain about representation are those who have it already, they don't know what it feels to be underrepresented.

      amen to that! I certainly know what it's like to not get represented. Or worse, to have people misrepresent you.

    Thanks for what you've done! Didn't understand lack of representation and lack of community with my Asian brothers and sisters until I went to the Women's Rally this year and they mentioned every other race, except for Asians. Now, look what you have helped to start! The power of pride wasn't so clear until CRA appeared. I didn't realize how invisible I felt until I saw CRA, so thanks to Jon Chu and all who came before and after💓💓

    when i was little, kids would constantly say i should be mulan for halloween (happened in high school too) and everytime the magic school bus played, theyd single me out of the class and say im the asian girl in it to embarass me. id get asked if jackie chan was my dad as a joke. so yeah. representation is important. but the only progress we have is fresh of the boat and crazy rich asians.

      Wanted to be an actor 20 years ago and when asked why I wanted to be in the film industry I said “because the only Asians portrayed by Hollywood are typecast as Kung-fu fighters or geeky, nerdy types.” He just looked at me and went silent for a moment and says” you know? Your right.” Damn right I’m right back in my day there was no “sexy” Asian even though I looked like a Greek god at the time lol

      I just don't get it.
      What about asian cinema? I mean there are literally millions of movies from like South Korea, China, and Japan that are being ignored.
      South Korea has some of the greatest movies I've ever seen.
      It's already there and it's being ignored because they aren't speaking English.
      That's like Russian immigrants waiting for a "crazy rich russians" movie instead of watching movies from russia.

      @@arthurwild6563 maaaaaybe because they don't understand Korean, Chinese etcetc?
      And i mean, who is born in a different country of their parents/grandparents usually didn't feel "represented" by those film, because is made for the people who are in those places, meanwhile second/third etcetc generation of immigrants usually are more represented by people with the same background.
      For example, shang chi is a film made for asian who were born in america, or in western society in general.

      @@arthurwild6563 and ofc if the number are small, slowly will be the representation, but it's also important to a country to remember that those people are real. I think my country isn't very progressive also becouse some themes, like racism or homophobia, aren't touched at all in TV series. And yes, younger generation have acces to internet, but it's not enough to me.

    I couldn’t care less about diversity in movies. I loved crazy rich Asians and it makes sense that it’s predominantly Asian just like a movie in Nigeria is full of black people or a movie in Scandinavia with all white people. Geographical/historical accuracy is important IMO. Represent yourself, don’t look to others to represent you. Especially Hollywood.

    NO!!! THEY GAVE HIM WICKED TOO?? Whose idea was to cutt out crucial songs and rewrite lyrics to write Nina's mom out of the musical??? So a supportive mother is less relatable than a dead beat alcoholic dad?? They cutt out songs that made Nina's dad more human, Doña Claudia had already cashed the money and told Usnavi to help her hide it during the musical number and instead distracted the audience with Vanessa and Usnavi's connection. THERE WAS A WHOLE LOVE SCENE BETWEEN NINA AND BENNY THAT GOT TAKEN OUT THAT SHOWED THAT BENNY WANTED TO BE PART OF NINA'S LIFE. DON'T get me started with the Piragua guy (also cutt out some of his songs) NOW THEY GAVE THIS GUY WICKED??? We're going to miss out on so many songs now. Incomplete musicals are fucking horrible

      Kevin Zhang I don’t know if you noticed, but movie is a form of art. And art has been a tool to convey social messages throughout time. Even movies can be used to convey messages.
      I’d say, go look at French films. I’m recently being acquainted to them through my French class.They have a lot of movies dealing with many current social issues, including representation and minority issues. And many of them are great works.

    Crazy rich Asians was a run of the mill rom com that wasn't even funny. If not for having an all Asian cast it would have the terrible reviews it deserves. There is nothing original about that movie other than it's literally ALL Asian characters.

  • @remyllebeau77
    @remyllebeau77 4 года назад +5

    1. Taiwan is not China.
    2. Nobody deserves representation.
    3. If you want something to happen, make it yourself instead of complaining when people don't offer you a free ride based on your heritage.

    • @alexanderchristopher6237
      @alexanderchristopher6237 4 года назад +2

      Remy Lebeau
      1. Taiwan is the other name for the Republic of China. The whole world is having this dilemma of having 2 countries called China, the Republic of China and the People’s Republic of China. Both claiming to be the real China.
      2. Nobody deserves representation is only true if all are treated similarly in the first place regardless of race or other identifying factors. That way, only talent and character can be your only judge. However, I doubt that is the case today.
      3. What do you think he is doing? He made a Hollywood movie filled with Asian-Americans and even actors from Asian countries. He just wanted more filmmakers and even the industry to allow for more Asian-American films. He’s pushing for Asian-American actors and actresses to rise to fame with these movies, just like their Asian counterparts in Asia. And to be fair, given the traditional importance of practical jobs like medicine or business in Asian-American households, the lack of representation in media was partly their (Asian-American’s) fault, though I noticed that there seems to be a change amongst the younger people towards the arts and acting.
