He’s so articulate with both his words and his music that we simply have to listen carefully. His wisdom makes itself clear. The description of 'happy Chopin' is exactly my impression while watching Bruce Liu in the Chopin Competition, I called it 'sunny Chopin' then. I also notice his Chopin is a bit different, notably the pointed, detaché, less legato phrasing in many places. Both these are considered not typical of Chopin. The interview is more of a chat show than a deeper exploration of Bruce Liu's musical thoughts. I thought his favourite colour would be this maple leaf (or is it red China) red, since he is wearing this shirt and he wore it in the Rubinstein competition.

Except that Bruce himself talked about his attraction to women in interviews shortly after winning. He seemed to clearly present himself as straight. But yes, I agree it's an awkward and almost inappropriate question, especially considering how perfect and insightful the rest of the interview was.
