My wife of 34 years and I watched this amazing video from her Long Term Care bed, due to FTD/Alzheimers and she asked: "are we going to die" and I answered "yes we are someday, but not today"... (I silently cried in my car) and drove home to our dog. XOXO Thank you Ms. Natalie!
You are so iconic. I've been an avid fan since 10000 Maniacs. Your Tiger Lilly and Ophelia albums got me through rough times. Your voice is like an old friend, never to be forgotten. Your music surrounds me, melodic like a soft cardigan sweater. Your words are like the memories and wisdom of elders calling attention to the past and how it impacts the present and future. Beautiful, just simply beautiful.
Have listened to this four times now and serious tears every time. Of both joy and failure to achieve. But not done yet...Onward and furthur..... ANTHEM!!!
Wow. My failing health. Yesterday is still new. Tomorrows forgotten. On a bridge we sit. A sun yet to set. Water flows on by. Hold my hand Natile, sing our song.
First there was the song, so hauntingly beautiful. Now it has been brought to life with this short film documenting a generation who fought so hard for a better world. I pray that in leaving this behind, Natalie might inspire the younger generation to continue the hard work of fighting those who would send us back into the dark ages. We need hope and hard work. Thank you for this art, Natalie. 💕
I am a 62 year old "girl in pink on a milk white horse"...actually she's an old grey mare, as arthritic as I am but when we are together, I am reminded of this song, the lyrics filling my heart with the joy of a quiet ride on my wee beastie girl.
I took my 10 year old (now 35) to see Natalie in Reno, Nevada 25 years ago and neither of us will ever forget that performance...flawless as she is today! ❤
If you like this song, I recommend the Song Exploder podcast episode in which Natalie talks about the song and how she wrote it. It's really something.
The world deeply is in need of personalities like you are. Full of humanity and a voice so mild and strong at the same time, stones start to melt when you start to sing. ❤
Just realised that one of the finest ever singer-songwriters celebrated her 60th birthday yesterday. I have been listeming to Natalie Merchant since first hearing 'Trouble Me' on late night radio, back in 1989. So pleased that she is still writing new material, touring and sounding great. After waiting more than 5 years since her last UK tour, it is now just over 2 weeks until the long drive down from Yorkshire to Bath to see her play live once again.
First time hearing this song. My mom had me in 1968 when she was a free spirited, independent 19 year old. She was recently diagnosed with Stage 3 lung cancer. I’ve been holding it together, until now…
Natalie is the true epitome of an artist and entertainer! I can’t help but appreciate how she’s aged gracefully. Like she’s embraced it and adds it to her box of inspiration. It’s inspiring to me as I feel like I see the opposite promoted in mainstream media. This video is beautiful and she is beautiful, I LOVE IT!! Thank you for continuing to make music and share it with everyone ❤
Happy Birthday from France. Born in 1963 too and big fan of yours since 1986. Humankind is so depressing at times. Thanks God there are people like you, to renew our faith 😊
They fought for women's rights and now we need them more than ever. Here's hoping our young women of today take up the banner women like me are too old to carry.
This woman sings 1000 times better than the ones that are popular today. Novody sings like her and her voice will always sound like pancakes in the mountains 💚 But this song is simply a tribute to yuppies
Natalie Merchant doesn’t just make music, but creates the finest of Arts, evoking profound experiences, and multiple emotions. She is one of a very small number of creators who can consistently create at this level. ❤
Very beautiful. We're the same age, and I relate to the nostalgia and respect for the generation before us that made our lives easier. Natalie doing what the best artists do - lending their beauty to dignify the other.
Only concert I went to with my mom was Natalie Merchant. And this song reminds me so much of her. Even though she worked for lawyers, the hippy never left her. She passed away in October 2018 and I miss her so much!
I didnt know she passed away How old was she?? im A 76 yr old aussie singer songwriter who was given her album Ophelia by my ex son in law yrs ago. I think her voice is so special and her song kind and generous will be on my top 100 song list im comipiling . Sorry and sad shes gone🤔💔💓🙏💋❤️
At 70, much is gone and leaving. Thank you for the song, Sister Tilley. I still spend hours listening to Ophelia CD. Great songs, great lyrics, great singer. Thank you for these too.
Thank you, Natalie. Jacqueline Roper Stackhouse was my Miss Tilly. Took me to my first March on Washington when I was 50 and she was 80 (it wasn’t her first, and wasn’t her last). RIP, Auntie J. It’s my turn to carry the torch…❤
HOLY Mac n' cheese! That was STUNNING, poignant, inspiring, poetic - worthy of Didion. God, I miss songs with meaningful lyrics. Maybe they're on their way back! 🤞
My son was nine when I took him to her Leave Your Sleep tour. His name is Elijah and she talked to him 3X from the stage. We gave her a gift bag full of Texas stuff. He's 23 now. Seriously, where does the time go? So much has happened in between that time. Divorce, new marriage, 5 surgeries, and so much more. Natalie has been the background music of my life since I was 17. I'm almost 54 now.
I was just crying joyful tears to "These Are Days" and I had to find out what Natalie Merchant is doing these days. I'm so glad to see her still creating beautiful works of art.

She performed this at a recent outdoor concert we attended in Woodinville, Wash. and I now stand transfixed by the beauty and power of her tribute. This is the first time I had seen this video and it matches the painter's-quality artistry of Natalie's lyrics. Thank you, Natalie, for performing (for only the second time!) another of my favourite tributes ("King of May") of yours that evening! I was singing along. And thank you for being such a beautiful soul.
Chilling and contemporarily timeless. Much love from a fellow INFP -- I remember laying on the beach playing Natalie in the 80's and that was all of the company I needed.
I didn't hear this song, I felt it. I felt the memory of the women who went before me, the women who set me an example when I was a very little girl. Peace, love, rock and roll; all of it came from these women, all of it became me, all of it taken into the end of my working days, matured, standing, hardcore. Thanks, Miss Natalie, for remembering them all.
Your unmistakable voice, somehow soothing , but full of depth and power, along with your always amazing lyrics, always combine to transport my soul to a place of wonder. This time, when combined with that amazing video, you brought me back to my youth, to a time when we were young, alive, full of hope and ready to change the world.
Thank you, Ms. Merchant. I so admire the love and beauty in this song, a kind tribute to our mothers of yesterday and a beacon summoning the daughters of tomorrow. May the world find peace.
Don't know if you read comments Natalie, but I just wanted to say Thank You. You have taken me so many places for so long and it's just because you have always been such a beautiful and kind woman of extraordinary talent.
Whew…. I barely made it through without tears, then, the dedication at the end got me! 🙏 To the great Joan Didion 😢✨🥰.So beautiful. Your music has always lived on a higher frequency to me. I receive your music/your art on a heart level. A “Thank you” feels a bit inadequate … but thank you. Your work means so much to me! 💗✨💞✨💓
And so it is! That is your prayer to the Universe! 🙏 If you are speaking specifically of women, I couldn't disagree with you more but then again, I don't base my sense of self on my vagina...🤷♀️
Artist. Pay attention, youngsters. There's not many left.
not like her
She makes music that makes all men cry ...God bless this woman.😂
I admit, I choke up every time I listen to it😂

Yes. I cried.
Only Natalie can make music that makes this 58 year old man cry...
Same age. Same response. :)
Same here😢
Saw her in Philly and she herself was breaking down singing it. ❤️❤️❤️
Me too, as this was beautiful ❤
I was driven to tears in a van with hand painted Flowers and a peace sign on it whilst listening to this song. 🌺 🌼 ☮️
Somehow this song makes me mourn the loss of the person I used to be.

The only person stopping you from being the person you want to be is you.
So well said! Thank you!
Somehow the world is right when Natalie sings.

Natalie is such the lotus flower 🌹
It’s a shame this album did not get more accolades than it rightfully deserved. Masterpiece from beginning to end.
My favourite Natalie album,,,
Thank you for keeping us on a higher level, Natalie Merchant 💕
Love this song. She still has talent.

May peace reign and all the flower people shine! Be bright yellow!
Her voice still sounds like its 1990, amazing!
No, I hear the age, like fine wine. A little more resonant, more warmth.
@@CorePathway I saw here live a few months ago, and listened to live recordings on youtube from years ago. Really liked the older voice. Its deep.
I'd be SO down to hear her and Annie Lennox do a duet. Mind would be BLOWN.

This is genius. Natalie sings what my heart doesn't know how to speak. Once again.
First time hearing or seeing this. I’m 66 and boy does this take me back. Once a young feminist, now an old one.

…merchant is so intutive. My Mom drove a VW, had Macrame, musk oil, etc….took as to San Francisco one year for school shopping.
What a sweet tribute.
