- Gene Watson - Farewell Party (through the years)
Gene Watson was born in Palestine, Texas, in 1943.[2] He began his music career in the 1960s, performing in local clubs at night while working in a Houston auto body shop during the day. He recorded for only a few small, regional record labels having a regional hit "Bad Water", until 1974, when Capitol Records picked up his album Love in the Hot Afternoon and released it nationally. The title track, a mid-tempo ballad in three-quarter time, was released in June 1975, and it quickly reached Number three on the Billboard magazine Hot Country Singles chart.
Watson's national success continued throughout the late 1970s and early 1980s, as he recorded several Billboard top-40 hits, including "Where Love Begins," "Paper Rosie," "Should I Go Home (or Should I Go Crazy)," "Nothing Sure Looked Good on You," and "Farewell Party," which was released in 1979 and quickly became Watson's signature song and the namesake of his Farewell Party Band.
In February 2012, Watson, celebrated his 50th year in the music business with the release of Best of the Best, 25 Greatest Hits (his very first single on radio "If It Was That Easy" released in 1962). The collection of songs was re-recorded to recreate the originals as closely as possible. The project was produced by Dirk Johnson and released on Watson's own Fourteen Carat Music label. In June 2014, Watson released an eleven track CD "My Heroes Have Always Been Country," all pure, classic country music, covering hits by some of his musical heroes such as Merle Haggard, Ray Price and Lefty Frizzell. On February 26, 2016 Gene Watson released his 33rd studio album titled "Real.Country.Music." This 13-track CD contains traditional country music and the first single release is "Enough For You", a song written by Kris Kristofferson. In 2018, Watson released a Gospel music CD titled "My Gospel Roots". The first single from the 13-track release, "Old Roman Soldier" hit #1 on the Cashbox and Christian Servant Country Gospel charts in June 2018.
Gene Watson was inducted into the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame in 2002 and inducted into the inaugural class of the Houston Music Hall of Fame in August 2013. In 2018 Watson received the "Entertainer of the Year" Award from the R.O.P.E. Awards, an honor he shared with singer, Jeannie Seely. It was the first time in the history of the Awards that there was a tie in any category

If it got any better it would be insane, probably one of the finest voices in music, thanks Gene
I get so upset knowing Gene Watson is still not in the Country Music Hall of Fame. What a shame to country music and all the country musicians out there Each one should be ashamed for not fighting to get Gene in. We all know he has paid his dues and is totally one of the best country music performers and flawless singers there ever has been in Country music. He is long long overdue for this award. I am ashamed towards Country Music Hall of Fame that he's not already in there!!!
He is fantastic
What a voice! Gene definitely should be in the Country Music Hall of Fame!
Many don't know Gene didn't give up being a auto body mechanic and sing full time until he was 42 yrs old❤ what a voice🎵
He finally got invited to become the lastest member of the Grand Ole Opry. It's about damn time too. He has a wonderful voice and some great songs thru the years.
There is no better talent than Gene Watson .
His voice sounds as good as it did when he was young. Why is he not in the country music hall of fame? He's one of the best.

This is his best song in my opinion and l think his most requested
He finally made it in the Hall of Fame. Feb 10, 2020. He's always been called the most underrated singer in country music. And Gene said, "I'd rather be underrated than overrated." I've saw him four times so far and am ready for a recharge. It's said he built a career around one note. And nobody can do it like Gary Gene. Love ya man!!! Can't wait till next time.
Gene replied last night on another post of mine. Wow. Now I'm somebody. Love his singing. The best.
beautiful seeing all the years of his singing!
Love Gene Watson singing this song, Fair well party. ❤He has a absolutely fantastic country and Western vioce. He can sing any thing. Love you Gene ❤
To this very day, his voice is just as strong and emotional. The song is "Timeless"
I just realized why this was my older brothers favorite, he passed in January in Augusta Georgia at 69, he must have been thinking of his x, wow brother I am so sorry you faced the end alone by yourself, I would have been there if I was able and you knew that, I miss you so much and I'll think of you every day and I promise we will have a celebration of your life soon because you were so much of life to us all, see you soon Rest in peace Danny and thank you for being my big brother and for protecting me and teaching me life Lessons, it tore my heart out when they called me that night and I'm glad we talked on the phone and said we love each other, we talked about the end together but it still hurts awful bad , God knows I wish I had you to call today,
Love you forever,
Baby Brother
I will never stop loving your songs! I was fortunate to see you way back in the 1980’s in Alexandria Bay NY. I remember asking for a kiss and you did give me one!! Thank you for all of your beautiful songs and memories. I wish you could play in my remote part of the country just once again!

He is 76 now and just gets better with age.

His vaice hasn't changed in all his wonderful years. He can still hit the high notes and make you feel like you are right there with him
Gene watson i love u iam 77 now 84 for u o m G this God 40.yrs n still going love u Gene
The man on the steel guitar is great!
very underrated, so great!!
when that day come I pray that song will be my last
0:13 Gene’s Elvis phase. It’s amazing, if not mistaken, Gene still sings his hits in the original keys. A lot of singers have to transpose the music in a lower key because the high notes are no longer there. An outstanding country artist. Anybody know whose butt you have to kiss to be inducted into the CMHOF? It really seems like there’s a lot of political BS about that organization, much like the RRHOF.
Amazing voice n my favorite song of everything n everyone
If it took till 2021 to get Bocephus into the HOF how long do you think it will take Gene???

Kind of a Keith Whitley- Eddie Rabbitt- Chuck Norris looking chap...amazing voice/ singer
voice ...
always the same
looks ...
well. he may have been placed in a witness protection program
GENE WATSON HAD SO MANY GORGEOUS LOOKS!
Cleaver the way you take us through our past. Lot of valleys but twice as many mountain tops.
It's really hard to compare singers --I guess the best is who you listened last. I would rate George Jones, Waylon , Merle Haggard and George Strait as good as it gets but there is a special spot for Gene above them all !
Super buena cancion Americana mis felicitaciones de Chile.
GOOD ONE...LIKE THE WAY YOU DID THIS
Really awsome edit skills.captured it perfectly..im impressed...Its sad that real Country music is almost gone now.so much left unsung.I used to sing in clubs in the 90s.this was a favorite.its heartbeaking to think that thw genwration coming up thinks thats hip hop and sex is country music. The point is lost...The music is dead except in reruns.Well ill still buy them...
Nice clipping job. Through the years all wrapped into one song.
I saw Gene in Eau Claire Wisconsin
Oh man, what a great vid! Gene is THE BEST an should definitely be in the CMHOF. He only became an Opry member in 2020 - WT heck? A REAL Texas boy and singer. "Farewell Party" is a classic Lawton Williams (not Willie Nelson!) composition. Lawton cut it himself originally but a kinda fast version; same for Little Jimmy Dickens later. Billy Walker also cut a version with great singing, but it's Gene who made this song his own and what it is. (Alan Jackson, BTW, did an equally great cover of it). In my opinion, the slow temp is perfect for what this song says. Gene's delivery, phrasing and natural vocal vibrato are awesome. Who the heck is on steel in this vid? Great playing. There's a wonderful RUclips vid of Gene singing this on one of those Country Reunion shows with Joe Stampley and Larry Gatlin sitting next to him. Gene sings it sitting down - including during that tremendous, powerful vocal ending. Weldon Myrick on steel. But anyway, Gene still sings it in the original key of B with the modulation to key of C. He knocks his fellow performers out on this Country Reunion show - gets a standing ovation with Larry Gatlin exclaiming, "He did it sittin; down - that should be against the law". Yes, it should - but Gene did and still does it! Gene's 77th birthday coming up on Oct 11th. And...I like the way he's gone back to his original hairstyle even though somewhat longer and grey, but at least not permed!
Hall of Fame needs to be in that number, great great singer , deserves to up there with the greatest singer of country music
I'M 2 DAYS OLDER THEN HIM!
Awesome the best this is country I cry when I hear you you are a true country man linda Powles I want to met you

Grew up with him on the radio in the early 80's in Houston on job-sites..to and from. He was our working man's songs. Gave us energy and the beer felt good. Good time at the end of the day.
Beautiful song
This guy is totally AWSOME
he's the Man, seen him three time in last 30 years and going to see him again in January at the Orange Blossom Opry! Get kick out of his bass player, he's trip!
Gene Watson needs to be inducted into CMHOF!!! He has a quite a few beautiful songs especially "When she touches me"....!!!
May this voice be the same when he's 90 !
