You forgot the movie Follow the Sun starring Glenn Ford as Ben Hogan and Ann Baxter as Mrs. Hogan. It's a biography about Ben Hogan, his early struggles, car crash, recovery, etc. There is real footage of Ben Hogan and Jimmy Demerate hitting golf shots. All shots that were supposed to be Glenn Ford were actually Ben Hogan.

"The Greatest Game Ever Played" was the best in my opinion because it was more than a golf movie as it got into class distinction and segregation. It was beautifully shot and full of drama even though we knew how the match would end. But "Tin Cup" had the best line of all, "There always comes the defining moment. You either define it, or it defines you." And that is so, so true.

No 3 Follow the sun (not mentioned, Glen Ford playing Ben Hogan)

Ben Hogan was technical advisor for that film. Also when Hogan, Demeret, and Byron Nelson teed off at Riviera GC, those were their real swings. Hogan hit several of the shots in that film that were not closeups. Paulmelville2126 it should be noted almost all of the film was accurate except for the caddie master giving Francis golf lessons before the open. Francis was already winning every amateur event around Boston. The other inaccuracy of the film was that That course was the course that Francis caddied at for a living. He knew every blade of grass there. And Lastly Francis basically won the Open by the 12th hole. He was four shots up on Ray and Vardon and went on to win by four strokes. But, that would not make for exciting drama. All that I mention here can be found in the book. It's a great read, also about Vardon and Ray. Harry Vardon suffered from the affects of TB which is why his right hand had the shakes.

Thank you for the list. The top 5 are pretty different for me:
    1. Greatest game Ever Played - for me this is not even close. It's very well directed. It's based on a true story. It has so many lessons about life and golf but is also extremely entertaining.
    2. The Legend of Bagger Vance - Many have these 2 switched and i respect that. I just think that while The Legend also delivers in all the categories, the true story and realism of The greatest game put's it over the top.
    3. Caddie Shack - Maybe the greatest comedy of all time and it just happens to be abotu golf. I agree Bill Murray stope the movie which is crazy since he originally only had a few minor scenes. But when he came to shoot they extended his stay and added a lot more content for him. The entire scene with him and "Ty" in his garden house as Ty plays through is adlibbed by both. It is classic.
    4. Tin Cup - Great performance by Kevin Costner and all. What a great cast. Excellent and entertaining story. But #1? Sorry, not at all. I almost put it 5th.
    5. Happy Gilmore - I truly love this movie. Adam Sandler is great but Christopher MacDonald is spot on as the jerk. There are so many iconic scenes. The dream sequence is one of the best - thank you Julie Bowen ;-)

I can't take the list seriously after listening to the ludicrous narration. Golfers being referred to as golf players? Tommy's Honour being set in the 1960s? ... Only a hundred years off ... Then there's the mispronounciations ... Francis Wee-MAY? Molly GrisWORLD? I can forgive the narrator, he's just a hired gun who likely knows nothing about golf. But the writer and producer should be ashamed of themselves.

Not exactly a golf movie, I believe that the Disney cartoon "Goofy On Golf" is a must see. My own favorite golf stories are hardly the "feel-good-and-overcome-obstacles-in-Life" silliness type. Those are only Hollywood formula scrapings. Also, I have a personal allergy to Adam Sandler, so I miss the point of Happy Gilmore. In fact, it is a parody and seems to entitle any oaf to ruin any foresome. I wonder why a film derived from Golf in the Kingdom (Michael Murphy) is still in utero?
Incidentally, if you want to see truly amazing satires on golf, golf technique, and the mild insanity caused by a fascination/obsession with golf, scan RUclips for golf instruction. THAT's the real world of day-to-day golf.
