- A quick overview of how the Kapten Boat Collars are fitted to aluminium boats. 70% of Australia wide & overseas customers self-fit the Collars themselves.
Tech talk:
Screws are pan-head self-tappers.
Boats under 4m long have 12 gauge screws & 3mm thick internal plates.
Boats 4m - 4.5m have 12 gauge screws & 4mm thick internal plates.
Boats over 4.5m have 14 gauge screws & 4mm thick internal plates.
All boats are provided with 2.5" screws, except fibreglass who are provided with 3" x 14G screws. Wooden boats have the option of upgrading again to 100mm bugle batten screws if their hull is particularly thick.
Mini Collars have smaller internal plates, and only require 1 screw per plate instead of 2, hence why Mini Collars are only suitable for boats under 3.5m and up to 10hp - great for tenders & small car-toppers.

Brilliant. Will tell all my friends with small boats in BC and SK, Canada. Hopefully, we can get them here without too much of a shipping penalty! Best of luck on a fantastic idea.
