    G'day, just started watching your channel. I wanted to ask how to add a deep blue. I have a 2003 sea ray 0m331217. Mercruiser alpha 1 gen2.
    The repair is in the blue section. Size or repair is that of half a quarter coin. The Blue is similar to the blue on the American flag, and covers the top half of the hull, off white or white on the bottom half, the rim amd inside. Would you be able to tell me, or even make a video, haha. If there is not one already?
    Thanks for the great content, easy to follow.

    I am absolutely struggling to match the easiest color to match. I have a 1996 Bayliner trophy with a white hull. I have total boat white gelcoat with a bright yellow dye a buck skin brown dye and black dye. I came pretty close but ended up to yellow on one batch and to dark on another when I tried brown. I am using the mixing stick method you showed. Boy you're not kidding about a little dye goes a long way. I'm going to try using a toothpick to add the dye a tiny bit at a time on the mixing stick.

    Great superb video. Something I need to experiment with . Just one question, wha about the shade of the color matched gelcoat while still on the container, to the final dried shade? That repaired area looks great, but one thing is a video, and another is the real thing. Thanks.

      The color in your mixing cup is pretty close but Andy laid out each swatch on the area he was about to repair - and chose the best one from those he brushed on to the boat. It's good to check it in different light and also in the location you are about to use the Gelcoat. Andy nailed this color match and it looked as good in real life - you could NOT find the spot he repaired. He's got the skills!

    I'm working on such a tight budget everytime I mess up a batch trying to match the color I'm sweating bullets 😂. Also I have a 19' v hull boat with a 8' beam and I don't know how much paint I need to paint the bottom. Right now I have a quart of white non waxed white gelcoat and a quart of waxed. I'm thinking I need at least one more quart of each to put two full coats on using a roller and brush. 1 coat non waxed one coat waxed. Is that even enough coverage? Or do I need two coats minimum non waxed and one coat waxed?

      Hi there. The coverage for our gelcoat is as follows:
      12.8 sq. ft/gal @ 1/8"
      25.7 sq. ft/gal @ 1/16"
      51.3 sq. f/gal @ 1/32"
      We would recommend giving our tech line a call to help determine how many coats you should apply. The number is 1-800-497-0010.

    Do you have the quick ratio to dial in the 1994 Grady white off white color.. Spectrum no longer has this available from what I understand..
    Someone posted they acquired the perfect recipe a while ago while doing a transom.
    Thanks!

    I think yellow OXIDE is also an important color to have on hand when mixing colors.

      @TotalBoat  6 месяцев назад

      Andy gets it done with just the straight yellow - and some help from black and brown, too.

    Thanks for the content. Questions: How do you tell which and how much of the black, brown, and yellow to add? Should I err on the white side of color matching? Is there an issue that the repair tinted gel coat will oxidise over time and become “darker” than the original gel coat?

    • @TotalBoat
      @TotalBoat  6 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks for watching!! To get the custom color, it is really just trial and error with the pigments. And unfortunately, there's no easy way around that short of recoating or painting the whole thing. The old gelcoat will oxidize and discolor differently than the new gelcoat.

      We have a Classic Whaler Blue topside paint that is a match to that Whaler Blue color. But not for Gelcoat. Just as a topside paint - Wet Edge. www.totalboat.com/products/wet-edge-marine-topside-paint

      that's gonna take some color skills, time and patience. Add little amounts of the green pigment to white on the stick and take it slow! good luck!

    Andy jak zawsze świetny wykład. Jednak, czy możesz pokazać w jednym filmie malowanie żelkotem i topkotem. Kiedy żelkot, a kiedy topkot. Jeżeli żelkot i użycie Coverall Film. W filmie ruclips.net/video/XqMiGL5fyYI/видео.html pokazałeś malowanie żelkotem, ale brak mi pokazania samego wykończenia, polerowania malowanego pokładu. Pozdrawiam z Polski.

      THANK YOU FOR YOUR COMMENT. We hear you!
      Andy as always great lecture. However, can you show in one video painting with gelcoat and topcoat. When to use gelcoat and when to use topcoat. If gelcoat and using Coverall Film. In the video ruclips.net/video/XqMiGL5fyYI/видео.html you showed painting with gelcoat, but I miss showing the finishing, polishing the painted deck. Greetings from Poland.
