I see Battle For Bikini Bottom on the thumbnail. That game was and still is the shit. Honestly, playing the game again recently, I'm surprised how well the game has aged. Both that and the movie game were my jam.
Santi Barrios You can remaster them yourself with a capable gaming pc and emulation software. Ps2sx + software emulation dx11 and all the options maxed looks amazing when it works
They definitely need ports to the PS4. I ended up replaying Battle for Bikini Bottom starting yesterday and while the graphics haven’t aged great the rest of the game has. .
I love how pretty much everyone is clicking the thumbnail for Battle for Bikini Bottom. Easily the best Spongebob game and it holds up amazingly well when put alongside other platformers from the 6th generation of consoles.
The fact that Spongebob Squarepants Battle for Bikini Bottom might be coming back after THQNordic and Nickelodeon signed to bring back several old Nick games from the late 90's and early 00's so we might be getting a rerelease of this old gem on modern consoles is genuinely amazing!
You want to hear the pitch for KH huh? Disney and Square happened to work in the same office building. One day one employee from each side were on the elevator together, looked at each other, and said "We should try making video games together" XD
The Spongebob Movie Game was made with the same engine as BFBB. That's also a good game. And Heavy Iron Studios also made a great Scooby Doo game called Night of 100 Frights. That game was my childhood.
Return of the King! There's an awful lot of good Lord of the Rings games, but the Return of the King will go down as one of the most nostalgic games of my childhood. Also Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. The PC version. I wanna play that game so badly now...
Konrad in Spec Ops: The Line is already dead and you have been hallucinating for most of the game due to PTSD from bombing people with White Phosphorus.
idk if you watch Logan/Fawful's Minion much/at all, but I almost get lost listening to Logan's more recent videos and scripts compared to Will/Rabbid's. Definitely my favorite sitcom
I just wanna say you have been a fantastic, consistently great content creator over the years, and I always appreciate when a video of yours pops up in my sub box.
Ah, I loved the clip of 2005 Battlefront II. One of my favorite levels, too. I think Star Wars games could probably be their own list, but there has been tons of excellent ones. Truly great examples of how to treat a license.
I remember watching countless playthroughs of battle for bikini bottom and it was, in a way, a nice thing to see that it isn't bad when looking back on it now.
Actually, in the Spider-Man films, Bruce Campbell made a cameo in each one, all involving Peter Parker, and the big reveal for Spider-Man 4 was for Bruce Campbell to play Mysterio.
I played the ps2 version, Leonidas will forever be my favorite Bakugan. He is kinda like the protags own bakugan, except Leonidas is a bit more profound.
I'm surprised that you released a video this soon, considering what got announced last Monday and how you reacted, I thought you'd be in shock for about a month
assaf chen I’m gonna ignore 3ds ports to make things more interesting In no particular order 3D World, Nintendo Land, Wonderful 101, Rainbow Curse, Mario Party 10, Mario & Sonic at Sochi, Star Fox Zero, Game & Wario, New Super Mario Bros U, New Super Luigi U
I'm mixed on the idea to be honest. From a business perspective, I understand why they are porting games over as the Switch already has a much bigger install base then the WiiU and it is still selling. I do feel it devalues the WiiU a bit though which is a shame.
This list is amazing, but I'd add Jurassic Park Operation Genesis as a six. It makes you do what the movies always go on about, making a Theme Park with Dinosaurs. It was great.
I haven't played either game, but my brother has, and from what I've seen I think JW: Evolution is the better game. It seems like it just takes what Operation Genesis did and improves all the features while adding new ones to boot.
Very interesting list, sir. I do remember watching my bro play Battle for Bikini Bottom when we were younger. It was very enjoyable. And even though my initial experience with the Kingdom Hearts series was watching my brother play KH 1 and 2, I REALLY became a huge fan of the series around 2013 and I now play these games repeatedly. XD I'm impressed that no anime licensed video games came up; even ignoring the DBZ fighting games, I have fond memories of some of the Yu-Gi-Oh video games I used to play like Forbidden Memories and Falsebound Kingdom. And I recall the days of my brother beating me in Naruto: Clash of Ninja 2. Good times... :)
In the UK every game is licensed because you need a license to play video games haha get it Also dont tell anyone but i dont have my joking license on me
Psssst... Jump force was inspired by a RUclipsr, who would do Anime Crossovers and done a great job creating a story. The guys who made the shows found the man doing the YT videos, and HIRED HIM TO MAKE A GAME!!
There’s one licensed title that everybody always seems to forget, despite it being made by Rockstar. The Warriors is not only a great expansion of the source material, chronicling the events leading up to the movie and the formation of the gang, it also provides an excellent game built around a cinematic classic. You get to know the characters a bit more (especially Cleon), interact with those colorful gangs we saw in the opening moments of the film and learn a bit more about them (we didn’t even have names for most of them, prior to the game), and explore a gritty, realistic late-70’s NYC. Sure, the graphics look a bit dated even in the PS4 release, but the combat is still nicely satisfying, especially when combined with the tactical aspect of commanding your soldiers, and the stealth sections feel a helluva lot less wonky than you might expect from the studio known for big action, shootouts, and criminal drama. There are several hours of buildup to the Warriors even leaving for the meeting, and what comes after is a faithful recreation of the movie with added gameplay elements (just play through Chapter 14 and tell me it doesn’t ratchet up the tension x10). This is easily one of the best licensed games there is, a fun and engaging brawler with real depth, and it never gets its due.
Let me tell you, RabbidLuigi, speaking as someone who’s, not only trying to catch up on it, but trying to 100% the entire series in preparation for the game I honest to god didn’t think I was going to see before I die... playing through every Kingdom Hearts game in a row is a massive undertaking. And I’m just on Birth By Sleep! And I’m completing the series IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER.
Things I genuinely had no clue existed -- A SpongeBob game. O.o Even more shocking is the fact that it's apparently GOOD. Holy crap, when did that happen?! Well, I'm glad that the developers made sure it was a winner (and I'm sorry to hear they're defunct now). I also wasn't expecting Kingdom Hearts on this list, but -- well, that's probably because I don't think of it as a licensed game, despite all the Disney and Final Fantasy characters. I know it technically is, but as you say -- it's so WEIRD.
This list is full of so much yes. I've never played Spider-Man 2, but I enjoyed the first one. Battle for Bikini Bottom, Simpsons hit and run, and star wars Battlefront 2 are some of my favourite games. Thank you, Rabbid.
Arkham Knight included some use of the Batmobile. Actually made it an item to use for more than just being some Deus Ex Machina for when Bane looks like he’s ready for Round 2. Also, another great example of great use of other properties would be LoTR: The Two Towers and Return of the King. You actually get to feel like you’re a part of the story, and it’s a hell of a lot of fun.
For me, Alien: Isolation is the most impressive licensed game. Both for how much love it gives to its source material (the original Alien movie) with a perfectly recreated aesthetic, and for how much work went into making it an incredible game in its own right with unique survival/stealth gameplay and stunning graphical effects. The alien in this game eclipses the one seen in the movie by how lifelike and terrifying it is, in the movie we only catch glimpses of the alien most of the time but here we can watch it walking about, growling, looking around, hissing and screeching when it sees you... It's awesome
Yes I was hoping Spongebob Battle For Bikini Bottom to be on this list! Such a great game! I 100% completed it on my Gamecube twice last year one time after another. It's surprising how much of the game has aged so well! Love that game so much!
I had a FEELING this would be a great video when I saw Battle For Bikini Bottom in the thumbnail, BUT, I KNEW this would be a great video when I heard the remixed version of the Moon Theme from the Ducktales Remastered game!
Yo Dude, If you check out SuperButterBuns's Channel, she has some great info on how you can catch up on Kingdom Hearts as a series. Actually, There are games on the Ps4, the 1.5 and 2.5 Remixes which makes the series REALLY EASY to get into as it has almost all the games in them.
I feel this should have been a top 10. There are surprisingly a good amount of licensed games. Shrek 2, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, LOTR Shadows of Mordor, a good amount of star wars games.
Honorable mention: The "Super Robot Wars" franchise. Basic summary: Take every mecha-based anime you can think of. Mash a bunch of their stories together, stitch some original content through to hold things together, and make a bunch of epic strategy-based RPGs out of it. Yes, that means having Gundams and EVA Units fighting alongside the likes of Guren Lagann and Gunbuster. Yes, it is awesome. (Then you take all the original content you've made up to this point and stitch them together into their own storyline and game series, but that's getting away from the point of this list.)
the RPG is honestly good in it's own little way, it's inaccurate as fuck but was enjoyable for me... and what licensed game doesn't stray off the track? (also cherry MILF boy lives amen)
Bakugan on DS Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3 Godzilla: Save the Earth That Jurassic Park game on PS2 (basically Zoo Tycoon with all dinos) Gundam Dynasty Warriors 2
5:16 -- "This is before they were showing they don't know how roman numerals work". Except, IIII was normal for a time, before the subtractive form, IV, became popular, according to a quick googling straight to the Roman Numerals wikipedia page, and still shows up from time to time even now (Like, in FF7. The clock in the Ancient Temple uses IIII for door 4, even as it later uses IX and not VIIII for door 9).
I good licensed game I owned was "Over the Hedge" for the DS. It was a decent platform/stealth/adventure game that continued the story from the movie. Nothing amazing, but better than I expected.
Something I loved about Stick of Truth is that a lot of it was just the kids' imagination and costumes made out of things found around the house. It makes a nice contrast to games where characters actually are a part of that world. Anyone know of any other RPGs that use this?
It's funny, I'm watching this in 2018 and Rabbid talks about Spongebob BFBB, and afterwards I got an ad advertising BFBB Rehydrated. god that game is amazing.
On movie tie-in games, EA made some good Harry Potter games, which began as open-world platformers (PS - PoA), had a three fully quest-based ones (GoF, DH1, DH2) and the best-looking ones being open-world with a good number of side quests (practical exams being the most difficult) & mini-games (Gobstones, Wizard Chess amongst others) (OOtP & HBP), and from OOtP (first Xbox 360-era game) onwards, using the actual actors for voice acting, face tracking and making the world 1:1 with the actual design of the castle as seen in the films.
Those were pretty good but they all follow the same concept and have similair gameplay mechanics. If I had to choose anyone of them it would obviously be Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga
DuckTales is pretty good if short but as for Spiderman games I prefer Ultimate Spiderman for PS2, it looks better with it's cel shading more like a comic book, and still has an open city, plus you can play as Venom
Battle for bikini bottom was my first introduction to video games before Halo, CoD WaW and Gears of War. And its still an amazing game compared to other games today!
Yeah, I may own all of #2's franchise, and may have beaten the DS games along with the two "major" ones already, but catching up feels daunting to me too. Then again, that may be due to my completionist nature...
This video was oddly relevant for me. A couple weeks ago, I was hanging out at a friend's house, and saw he had the Brave video game saved to the hard drive on his Xbox One. Y'know, the Disney movie about the Scottish girl who's mom got turned into a bear? Yeah, it had a game, apparently, and I played it out of sheer boredom. Turned out to be REALLY freaking good, though! Definitely not good enough to have earned a spot on this list, but still way better than a game based on a movie about a girl learning to get along with her Mom by accidentally turning her into a bear had any right to be. Wound up 100%-ing it in one night, we got so hooked
If you want to catch up on the KH series, all you have to play is what's in the 3 collections on PS4. You can just watch/read the content of the side games.
I really wish I got Battle for Bikini Bottom when I was little but my parents decided on Spongebob Lights, Camera, Pants! instead and that game is just playing a bunch of mini games over and over. Its saying A LOT that when I was little my fav. licence video game we had at the time was Chicken freaking Little. Also I did recently find BfBB at my local Goodwill for like 2 bucks and is awesome!
@5:17 Historically, using IV as the numeral for four in modern times has been extremely recent; any look at an antique clock will show you that people were using IIII for four for quite some time. At least in America. Dunno how long they did that.
I see Battle For Bikini Bottom on the thumbnail. That game was and still is the shit. Honestly, playing the game again recently, I'm surprised how well the game has aged. Both that and the movie game were my jam.
There is supposed talks of a remaster since Nickelodeon and THQ Nordic have teamed up again.

That game was literally the banjo kazooie of my childhood. Still love it to this day, having replayed it multiple times.
There's a starman waiting in the sky true
Man, I have been seeing your comments in every video I see
all i ask for is HD Remasters for Battle For Bikini Bottom and Simpsons Hit & Run, then i can die with a clear conscience
Sir Galahad you just made my day, now I just need it to come out for the Switch and i'm set
Santi Barrios You can remaster them yourself with a capable gaming pc and emulation software.

I actually hesitated to watch the video BECAUSE of the spongebob thumnail, since I don't like the show.

Robert Maurice that would be amazing! Cautiously optimistic.
The early 00's?
you mean since the dawn of time
Well this aged well
This aged well and it looks very fun.
this aged well and it is very fun, now all they need to do is remaster some other Nickelodeon game classics
You want to hear the pitch for KH huh?
Disney and Square happened to work in the same office building. One day one employee from each side were on the elevator together, looked at each other, and said "We should try making video games together" XD
I was low key expecting/hoping to see Transformers: War for Cybertron/Fall of Cybertron on this. Those games are fantastic.

Honorable mention.
All of the games on this list deserved it too imo. This topic is too filled with gems to be limited to just five games without leaving something out.
Matthew Meachem I heard the developers got sued by Sega because the game was basically a Simpsons version of Crazy Taxi.
Kwatcher100 that was road rage, hit and run is nothing like crazy taxi
Gabriel Dorion Murray Ok. My bad.

If we are talking good licensed games, I hugely recommend the niche *Super* *Robot* *Wars* SRPG series.

Super niche with super robots, featuring various mecha anime, with the latest one featuring the Space Battleship Yamato.
it didnt really did the justice much since its a turn based RPG.

This list is amazing, but I'd add Jurassic Park Operation Genesis as a six. It makes you do what the movies always go on about, making a Theme Park with Dinosaurs. It was great.
Operation Genesis was the best. Too bad JW: Evolution has most of the upgrades tied to story missions and division ratings
I haven't played either game, but my brother has, and from what I've seen I think JW: Evolution is the better game. It seems like it just takes what Operation Genesis did and improves all the features while adding new ones to boot.

"But most of the time... it's about money" - Shows image of the new Halo Game
COULDN'T BE MORE RIGHT
Thank you for putting Spongebob Squarepants Battle for Bikini bottom on the list it is great. And I can't wait for the remake to come out in 2020
Honorable mention: The "Super Robot Wars" franchise.
I LOVED those old SpongeBob games!
honorable mentions to most Jurassic Park games, the Lego adaptation games, and King Kong ;)
"Great video, just say hello to my little bubble friend!"
marvel vs capcom
any jojo game
dbfz
its pretty cool that a licensed game has gotten into evo since 2000
Afternoon Tea even the weird Jojo RPG?
the RPG is honestly good in it's own little way, it's inaccurate as fuck but was enjoyable for me... and what licensed game doesn't stray off the track? (also cherry MILF boy lives amen)
Bakugan on DS
Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3
Godzilla: Save the Earth
That Jurassic Park game on PS2 (basically Zoo Tycoon with all dinos)
Gundam Dynasty Warriors 2
I wonder If Budokai 3 is too much of a classic for youtubers to acknowledge it? And damn is a long game.
One of my favorite licenced games is Ben 10 Protector of Earth. The gameplay was fun and level designs were creative.
The funny part is yes, the Kingdom Hearts mobile game is important to the lore and future plot.
My favorite licensed game is any Lego game.
lakenzie those were so good
Those were pretty good but they all follow the same concept and have similair gameplay mechanics. If I had to choose anyone of them it would obviously be Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga
Lego Star Wars The Complete Saga
Surprised to not see Golden Eye. Also Sweet Home. Practically inventing the survival Horror genre probably is enough to earn a spot.
DuckTales is pretty good if short
but as for Spiderman games I prefer Ultimate Spiderman for PS2, it looks better with it's cel shading more like a comic book, and still has an open city, plus you can play as Venom
Battle for bikini bottom was my first introduction to video games before Halo, CoD WaW and Gears of War. And its still an amazing game compared to other games today!
Spiderman was great! Wow I completely forgot about it, thank you for reminding me. A lot of good memories there.)
And SpongeBob)
Yeah, I may own all of #2's franchise, and may have beaten the DS games along with the two "major" ones already, but catching up feels daunting to me too. Then again, that may be due to my completionist nature...
Great vid!
I would've put Goldeneye 64 and The Simpsons Hit And Run on my list
I pitched the idea as a joke... I’m shocked you made a good list out of it.
That Monsters Inc. GBA clip brought back so many memories. For example, what the heck was I doing on the game?
Just gonna come and say that the Over The Hedge PS2 game was freaking great
The Riddick games were pretty cool. They also shook off the stereotype of "bad movie-based video games" somewhat.
Love the new intro.
Astro Boy: Omega Factor
I didn't even know shit about Astro Boy when I played it and it was still one of the best GBA games I ever played.
That Ducktales Remastered music in the intro!
