The first item is definitely not caltrops. Caltrops are more like dozens of small, 3 sided pyramids with a sharpened spike at each point. In this configuration there is always 1 spike pointing straight up no matter how they are thrown on the ground. If you step on it it will pierce your foot. Whatever that is pictured has more than 4 corners; none of them are sharpened and none of them point directly up. If you play D and D think of a D4 and you'll know how caltrops work. This is the first time I've seen you miss. Sorry for the correction.

I would say that even without sharp spikes, I wouldn’t want a horse of mine to step on one of those. Wedged in a hoof they could certainly cause lameness. On the other hand, he said that the large ones weighed 3 pounds, which doesn’t sound like a reasonable size for a caltrops, and I don’t know what function the tab would ply. I’m inclined to think this is probably not a correct identification.

Caltrops have been around since the Middle Ages at least. Stop sticks and similar devices used by police were inspired by them.
Seen several similar sewing tables on Antiques Road Trip, along with travel kits like the one at 5:30.

The last item looks exactly like the nut and bolt that hold the knuckle guards on the handlebars of my diet bike. The nut bites onto the inside of the handlebars when the bolt is tightened.

The caltrops are caltrops. We produced them in Ohio near where you bought them. They aren't as old though. They are from the 1920s 30s and for stopping old Time cars like "stop sticks" do today .. police would use them single or in chains of them stretching across roads

Doesnt make sense. Too heavy, and many of those cars were fully capable of crossing rough terrain.
As a 'caltrop', theyre a fail.

Always interesting to see items from other times!
I have a friend who is passionate about anything antique and he just can't get enough of your videos!
    📮
I have a small suggestion, in the same vein as the one suggesting you to put the last item of the previous video in the first spot of the next:
    • in the thumbnail, could you put the last mystery item from the previous video on the left and the last item of the current video on the right?
This would create a visual continuity from one video to the next.
This would also be a great way for people who binge watch your videos to make it easy for them to figure out the correct viewing order.
Thank you again for creating this channel; it's a wonderful idea!

The first object is not a Caltrop. Firstly it does not have any spikes and second it has that weird hook that would not serve any purpose in that use. I do not know what it is, maybe a car spring tool like someone said in the previous video.
