The thing labeled a xylophone is…. drumrole! a xylophone. Holy chips, what hope is there for mankind. If you bought that for under 10 dollar you were extremely lucky.
According to Google the mystery object is called a wedding cup. It is German, traditionally from Nuremberg. The top and bottom move so that both the bride and the groom can drink at the same time. They are meant to symbolise love, faithfulness and good luck.
The legend says that a rich man gave his daughter to a gold smith after he fulfilled the task of making a cup where the groom and the bride can drink simultaneously.
This. My German friends used one at their wedding in 1972.
Item at 7:33 is a wedding cup. Wife and I used one in our wedding reception, many years ago. It now rests peacefully in our knick-knack cabinet. They are more common than you might think.
Okay, I was only partially right on the scale. i forgot about the need to weigh coins due to the prevalence of 'clipping', taking metal from the edges of the coins. The 'milling' or grooves on modern coins prevents this, because it's obvious when someone has tampered with the coin.
A friend has a small tongue drum, to i recognized it, though I didn't know its name. (I've seen her play it, but we never talked about it.)
The last item is a reproduction 'bridal cup'. Supposedly, wine would be poured into the skirt part when held upside-down, and into the small basket, which would swing to keep the opening up. A groom would drink from the skirt and his bride from the basket, They were in many catalogs in the 1970s.
A merchant at the Portland Saturday Market used to make these wooden drums and I bought one. Mine is about a foot long but he made various sizes. About 15 years ago.
It was a common practice in the times when the coin weights were used to shave and clip coins so they were worth less. You weighed the coin to make sure you weren't being cheated.
The Cheese scoop is for a specific cheese "Stilton"
7:41 pretty!
It's a bed warmer, or I guess you could call it a hot water bottle. It is laid flat - the one in the photo is standing on its end. Of course, they took it out of the bed when the people got in. We had several that belonged to my old Victorian spinster aunts. My mother filled them with sand and used them as door stoppers.
👁👁 Happy to drop by… 8:00
Wine maybe?
The narration drives me crazy
