    Troubleshooting should START from reading alarm code.

    Thanks for your very helpful videos. In regard to your comment below, or somewhere that I saw, maybe on another video, I don't get what is the funlock and the "NM". I'm not a plumber, as such, your videos are very helpful way up in the northeast. Ciao.

    I am about to buy a Rheem gladiator 50 gallon water heater. Is there anything I should worry about it? I read some catches fire!

    Most likely that sensor is inside the evaporator unit at the bottom of the filter. That alarm will come right back when the coil gets frozen because water backs up inside. It takes more than an hour for the unit to freeze, can take a day depending on the ambiemt temp. Thanks though.

    My Rheem just dumped a "Upper Element Error or Relay Stuck On" alarm. I switched over to the sensors and see the temp at nearly 170 deg F. Glad I needed to take the trash out through the garage and heard the alarm. Because it would have hit the relief valve (if that even works) or exploded. Looking into it further, the heating element is powered by the circuit board through a surface mount relay that is normally open. Being an electrical engineer, I can't begin to tell you what a horrible design that is. Those relays fail closed often. My unit is only 4 years old. I'm SO glad my kids didn't turn on the hot water unexpectedly and get a 3rd degree burn. Thank you Rheem for a terrible design, which also has no safety shutoff in the event of a circuit board failure. I set the mode to OFF and watched the temp continue to climb. Did I mention the Efficiency mode on this unit has NEVER worked for me? It barely keeps the water luke warm. You set the temp to 125, and at no point does it ever reach that temp. You then use some water, the temp falls to 95 degrees, and it STILL does not come on. It's an abysmal piece of junk and absolute waste of money. Don't waste yours.

      Did you end up getting a resolution? Ours is doing the exact same thing right down to high efficiency not doing anything for us since the day we got it (Jan 2020)

    • @supernat1978
      @supernat1978 Год назад

      @arinhilton1143 no. I ended up taking the circuit board off, they wanted 350 for a new one, so I banged on the relays with a hammer and left it hanging off the side, and it hasn't stuck closed since. A matter of time though I suppose. I check it regularly, and because it actually continued to heat up while in the OFF mode, due to the relay failing closed, I now remove power entirely when we leave town

      @arinhilton1143 Год назад

      @supernat1978 oh jeez. Thank you. I will keep that in mind. We shut the power off to ours for 3 hours and when I turned it back on it was still at 150° and immediately started increasing so I am pretty sure it is the same issue 😔

    I’m dealing with similar issue right now. Codes for both blocked condensate and water in pan. Coil is freezing which blocks the condensate path to drain. Assembly also collects ice which melts missing condensate pan and drips out to side of tank to floor pan. So both alarms are valid.
    Note the alarm turns off heater. Then ice melts leaving nothing to see!

    I didn't see any helpful information in this video! Code A208 comes on for 3 reasons, clogged drain line, bad sensor or bad circuit board after you cleared the code and you thought you cleared the clog codes came back on display again, that water heater is not fixed

  • @manjumoman719
    @manjumoman719 Год назад +3

    You didn't resolve the issue, sir. Towards the end of your video where you were showing the model number, service call number etc, the Alarms link was still flashing - meaning the error was still there.
