Oh, you have no idea how tragic the scene this plays in actually is. It's one of the most grim ending scenes to perhaps any episode of television ever. And this composition is a big part of it - the director said in an interview that he was so impressed with the song when he first heard it that he timed the scene to perfectly match the song. (In anime, the music is usually composed before the visuals are done.)
I agree with this comment. Yes, the story is about moving forward, but it is also about reliving the same brutal pain over and over and over until you get there. This song seems like, "Will I feel this all again?"
It was like a game ending. Also, the way credits rolled made it feel like show would end there which was very shocking. I had to check if there was other episodes just to be sure.
I think a lot of people are forgetting the true horror of ReZero.. It's a anime about being pulled into a fantasy world with no choice in the matter, With the power of check point where.. you remember the FULL pain of death, you don't know if you will respawn, you don't know where the next check point is, you don't no if the check point will move while you're in a completely hopeless situation, making it so you're forced to replay it FOREVER and where you can't ever tell anyone about your power...
From the very first moment i saw "return by death" showing up, i already knew what was coming... i didn't expect it do be represented that roughly... but thats exactly how it should be and how i wanted it to be
Re: Zero is also a story of self discovery and learning to love yourself too. It’s not all pain and horror. Granted those are some major themes in it it’s not the lesson the story is trying to say. Season 2 goes into it more about learning to love yourself and accepting help from others. Pretty good lesson to learn if you ask me.

Ah yes, the ultimate Isekai! Gotta love Re:Zero and it's characters, man. It's an excellent anime and a masterpiece of a Light Novel!
SPOILER from the anime Being strict, technically... - Rem is not the best maid, Frederika is better (but Rem cooks better), and she is not a maid anymore, at the beggining of season 2 she rejects the title of maid and she says she is Subaru's caretaker. - Emilia is not a real heroine in the anime in the current timeline. Well, she saved people from the bunnys at the end of the season 2. Mm... maybe that's enought to call her heroine.
@@blackcid By Rem being "best maid" is solely because she's the most memorable one from the entire series. I'm aware that Frederica skills as a maid, surpasses Rem's. Emilia's character archetype is that of a heroine and she saved a few individuals, yes: Subaru in the beginning of the show, Arlam villagers from being massacrated by the Witch Cult in that failed loop, Subaru once again in that another failed loop where Rem dies by the Majuu curse(even tho he commited suicide, but ya get it) and finally, Arlam villagers once again. I haven't watched this anime, but there is an ungodly amount of Rule 34 about it. And if the internet has teached me anything, that means it's pretty good
This song was what that episode built up to the entire time. It was everything going through the mind of the main protagonist Subaru in the form of a song. It was hopelessness, sadness, and desolation. It is an episode I will never forget.
And another reason why Re:Zero is more than a masterpiece. It’s a beautiful work of fiction. It’s filled with pain, regret, tragedy, love, kindness, everything… When I first watched this scene, I cried. I cannot express with words just how well this series is written.
Honestly normally this song would be the whole picture and if you put it in an anime it would seem out of place and that it's too sad. BUT. Surprisingly it is only half the picture; the cinematography of the scene and the entire episode was spot on. And at the end of the episode I was left with an opened jaw watching the credits role and wondering. "what know what can be done?" it was an awesome experience
Thank you so much Atlas! you’ve genuinely made my day love your videos brother and your completely right on the analysis of this song :) I’d had to recommended another one I’d recommend the Takt of Heroes trilogy.
If this was the final episode of the anime/season, I dont think I would have been able to continue living...my emotions were inexplicable at the end of that episode. Nice reaction. I love how you caught all the emotion that this track holds. Really good!
Oh nice, my favourite song in the anime. But also because of everything that comes together with it. It's probably one of the most touching end-of-episode moments of any anime out there.
I still remember holding my breathe while watching ending titles with that music. And than Subaru Resurrected again. And I finally inhaled. That ending was crazy. I really forgot that it was just mid season.
look, Re:Zero is the Dark Souls of anime, and its OST is gorgeous, so you have to watch it! for those who are reading this, go listen Shadows House OST too, its from Kenichiro Suehiro too, and watch the anime, it's a good one! :D
I remember watching the episode where the ost is played and men... it was quite brutal. In one episode or two, the situation became really bad, really fast honestly. The episode wasn't the final one but there were credits like if it was the end of the show, and an end like this would have been really dark and sad, damn ! Great video, but I think watching the anime adds a lot of weigth in that song. You should watch it to really understand the song !
This song still turns on the waterworks. Just found your channel and saw you reviewing some anime OSTs. Saw you reviewing some Made in Abyss OST. I'd compare it to Kevin Penkin's "Pathways" from the Made in Abyss.
I have collected two dozen full soundtracks of Suehiro just because of his work in Re:ZERO. Throughout the many anime I've watched (and even some games I've played) I heard much of Sawano and I also love all of his works so far. I prefer Suehiro.
And I think this is one of the more simple, and technically unimpressive works from the show. It has so many incredible examples, I'd seriously recommend reaction to a few others
An incredible track over an incredible scene I never thought the show would top. My lord season 2 wanted to prove my ass wrong on that… This show has a TON of great music; I’d be really interned what this guy thinks of Call of the Witch.
first time I cried watching something was during this episode, man it really hit me like a truck. the credits didn't help when they started scrolling at around 7:05
This song IMO is about the deepest despair you can ever experience when there is no light, no exit, not even a glimpse of hope after trying any trying and trying and trying to save the most important people or person you love but still failed in the end.
If you're at all interested in watching the anime, I highly recommend. I personally would enjoy a video analyzing the track and how it communicates with the scenes of the show, but even if you just watch it to enjoy on your own time, again, I highly recommend.
Oh, it's a really famous track from a great scene of the first season. But, in my view, most "special", most "individual" are some "madness" themes from the second one. Such as「道化の仮面」(The Clown's Mask/Mask of a Joker),「エキドナ」(Echidna),「欺きのオルゴール」(Deceptive Music Box/The Music Box of Deception),「ロズワール辺境伯」(Resonance) and「サテラ」(Satella).

Ah yes, the ultimate Isekai! Gotta love Re:Zero and it's characters, man. Subaru is one of the best Isekai protagonists i've ever seen, Emilia is one of the best heroines i've met because she's a humanized one and Rem is best maid! Watch/Read Re:Zero if you can, Atlas. It's an excellent anime and a masterpiece of a Light Novel!
SPOILER from the anime
Being strict, technically...
If you have read arc 5 and 6, you know the list only goes on.
@@aprendizdesabio939Emilia's actions in arc 5 are so fucking beautiful. Her power is bringing hope even if she can't give the perfect solution everyone else lacks. Even if people are like all we can do to save them is mercy kill she'll find a way. She's so underrated.
Re:Zero is another anime that has many good tracks and although is a really,REALLY tragic story, there is a good variety in the OST since the anime balances the wholesomeness and the absolutely heart breaking moments so well. So it would be nice if you did more from this series

‘Ended like it began’ , on rewatched of your video I noticed you said this and this is a really big theme in re zero

The scene this song plays in is arguably one of my favorite scenes directed in any source of fictional content. I don't see a single scene in any other show ever beating this out in terms of just raw emotion and impact
My life never has been the same after this episode, he lost everyone and everything in that timeline. This episode has everything: Tragedy, suffering, pain, despair
Sorry this is a season 2 spoiler.
Echidna reveals that Subaru moves along one timeline not multiple so he's technically saving the exact same being not a separate identical copy.
@@Dragonlord826 she is not reveals that, she says thats its possible that he jumps back only in one timeline, but in the same time there is possibility that he is jumping to other timelines every time he dies. We cant be sure about this one yet
@@shizu13e she doesn't confirm it 100%, but the author makes it fairly clean that Echidna would know the answer especially since if it is a new timeline it would've ruined the whole reason Subaru has return by death. If I'm not mistaken this isn't ever contradicted in the novels.
I hope that he'll someday react to "Call of the Witch", "Echidna" or "Satella"

Re:Zero remains one of my all time favorite anime. Good Choice!
This song was what that episode built up to the entire time. It was everything going through the mind of the main protagonist Subaru in the form of a song. It was hopelessness, sadness, and desolation. It is an episode I will never forget.
Yo this song really hit me. And i had read novels beforehand. Re:Zero’s OST is amazing
It was a loss of basically everything you named
I can still remember how I felt when I first watched that scene and heard the piece. Re:Zero is a masterpiece man
my eyes get watery just hearing this, god i love this anime, god i'm hyped for season 3
They released the visuals ,teaser trailer now waiting for realese date:(
And another reason why Re:Zero is more than a masterpiece. It’s a beautiful work of fiction. It’s filled with pain, regret, tragedy, love, kindness, everything… When I first watched this scene, I cried. I cannot express with words just how well this series is written.
It's crazy how you explain the beginning and ending, because the mc does return to the beginning and he takes all that loss with him.
The song fits so perfectly with the moment, it's so sad.
I just remember finishing this episode and feeling empty asf, just staring at the credits
Hope you going to watch Re:Zero one day.
The episode this song was in was one of the most harrowing and bleak things I’ve ever seen on TV
If this was the final episode of the anime/season, I dont think I would have been able to continue living...my emotions were inexplicable at the end of that episode. Nice reaction. I love how you caught all the emotion that this track holds. Really good!
re zero will always be my fav
It's okay Atlas, i got that WEEB Card
Oh nice, my favourite song in the anime. But also because of everything that comes together with it. It's probably one of the most touching end-of-episode moments of any anime out there.
I still remember holding my breathe while watching ending titles with that music. And than Subaru Resurrected again. And I finally inhaled. That ending was crazy. I really forgot that it was just mid season.
7:01 pov: Some guy asks you to sleep with his daughter

Re zero. Call of the Witch. Always gives me chills. it's great
"I know Hell. I've seen it many times."

"It's a story about loss." Yeah, everyone dies in that specific scene. But how it's portrayed is done hauntingly.
Kenichiro Suehiro, the composer, really is best boy. If Hiroyuki Sawano didn't exist, he would be probably the best composer alive IMO
Theres yuki kajiura tho imo
And Kevin Penkin.
Honestly, the Re:Zero OST was enough to make me like Suehiro more than Sawano.
Go Sakabe tho...
I have collected two dozen full soundtracks of Suehiro just because of his work in Re:ZERO.
Throughout the many anime I've watched (and even some games I've played) I heard much of Sawano and I also love all of his works so far.
I prefer Suehiro.
Re:Zero's OST is so damn gold, you might as well just react to _every single song_ from both seasons
And I think this is one of the more simple, and technically unimpressive works from the show. It has so many incredible examples, I'd seriously recommend reaction to a few others
(Not to say it's bad, it's one of my favorites. It's just more static and _familiar_ than most)
07:02 that exact escalation I can recognize from anywhere, with flashbacks to Lion King - Remember Who You Are.
6:54 "Sleep, along with my daughter"
Could be a psychological loss? Loss of a place? Loss of hope? Loss of a person?
Who gonna' tell him
An incredible track over an incredible scene I never thought the show would top. My lord season 2 wanted to prove my ass wrong on that…
This show has a TON of great music; I’d be really interned what this guy thinks of Call of the Witch.
I still think Requiem of Silence towers over the whole Re:Zero Ost
first time I cried watching something was during this episode, man it really hit me like a truck. the credits didn't help when they started scrolling at around 7:05
This song IMO is about the deepest despair you can ever experience when there is no light, no exit, not even a glimpse of hope after trying any trying and trying and trying to save the most important people or person you love but still failed in the end.
Ah, yes. Re Zero greatness
The song is very similar to ending of Stalingrad movie from 1993
Heartbreaking scene.. If u didn’t cried u are Heartless Alien man
If you're at all interested in watching the anime, I highly recommend. I personally would enjoy a video analyzing the track and how it communicates with the scenes of the show, but even if you just watch it to enjoy on your own time, again, I highly recommend.
Awesome reaction
"Such tragedy" my man, if only you knew. If only you knew what we saw when this played. It's broke down our very souls. It IS tragic.
I think you can't feel all the despair and sadness of this song without watching the anime.
This soundtrack symbolizes human hopelessness and loss of something important to individuals. That what I think

Thanks for reminding me that Re:Zero is my favorite anime ever…
Oh, it's a really famous track from a great scene of the first season. But, in my view, most "special", most "individual" are some "madness" themes from the second one. Such as「道化の仮面」(The Clown's Mask/Mask of a Joker),「エキドナ」(Echidna),「欺きのオルゴール」(Deceptive Music Box/The Music Box of Deception),「ロズワール辺境伯」(Resonance) and「サテラ」(Satella).
"It ended like it began"...if he only knew how fitting this phrase is to that episode.
His expression throughout most of this is a man discovering his inner childhood was nothing, but solemn loneliness and soulless ever lasting loss of humanity in his heart as a result of the harsh life he was forced to endure. Without ever getting a chance to show any empathy for those he was forced to push under to survive. 😀
What a fucking episode
When shows can make you physically feel an emotion, you know it’s good.
