I have a Cosori. I used it for 5 months and it suddenly stopped without warning during a cook. Heartbroken I contacted them, sent a copy of my receipt and a picture of the serial number and in less than a week I had a brand new one delivered to my door! Can't beat that. I love this thing and use it daily. Thanks for all your videos. It has changed the way I cook.
I almost bought the Instant Pro but it was out of stock at my local store, so I went home and bought the Cosori from Amazon and I'm SO glad I did. One tip for the Cosori is you can buy a couple more of the removable baskets, that way if you're doing different items, you can have a basket ready to go in the air fryer without having to stop and wash the basket that just came out. I also recommend putting a parchment sheet on the bottom of the basket if you're using any metal accessories to protect the non-stick coating, or you can just use silicone accessories and not have to worry about scratching the coating off the basket.
I have 3 different Ninjas - Grill, Pressure Cooker with tendercrisp and 10 in 1 Oven. Never had a smell from any of them and lots of different options and space for so many various foods, still learning to cook in them and I did just receive your cookbook so looking forward to trying the recipes in my appliances. Thanks for all the hints and recipes.
You should have tried the rotisserie basket in the air oven. Just bought a similar model and 1 lb of potato wedges cooked perfectly in the rotating basket ... 1st try total success with no shaking or stirring necessary!
Just purchased Cosori 5.8 Retro for only 83.34 on Amazon since I found the presets pretty useless on my Instant pot and didn’t want to pay for something I won’t use. Before it’s delivered this weekend I will be reviewing all of Cathy’s beginners videos. Thanks Cathy for all of the fantastic information you provide us newbies! I was looking at other brands and was really pleased how you indicated Cosori was so user friendly.
Love my Vortex 6 qt so much that I bought a second! Never had an issue with any smell- cleans up like a breeze- I don’t use parchment or silicone - have never had an issue with food sticking- I can’t think of anything that I don’t like about it- I had top three brands but after watching Americas Test Kitchen do their show on fryers, with this as one of their top contenders, I was sold- I’m hoping that as frequent as I use it that they actually hold up and last
I'm looking to get the Instant Vortex 6 qt, I like that it just has one basket, I have arthritis and not having to press the release the basket is a plus to me, I also like that I can soak the basket with soapy water if needed.
I purchased instant vortex 6 qt based on ATK review also and I cooked bacon today in it. Bacon turned out perfectly. So much grease under the pan surprised me. It cleans easily. I’ve cooked 4 meals in it and I’ve accommodated for the pre-heating without any issue. First 2 times I used it it emitted a strong odour but not today-all I could smell was the bacon. Such a tidy way to cook bacon.
I have a power XL and I absolutely love it has a light and you can see in the window and it has little try to make it to where you can cook on the top and the bottom and it works very well
I love my Phillips air fryer. I use the “grill “ attachment most often as it’s so easy to get food out. I am a single person so don’t worry about how much it holds. A handful of fries for one is quite different than fries for a family. Most often my fries are cooked along with fish or poultry. I never preheat.
I have the Ninja Max. I love it! The instructions say to preheat and shake fries every 60-90 seconds. Fries come out perfectly. I like to spray with oil half through with a tiny sprinkling of salt. Also there is a pause button to use when you open the drawer.
God bless you for commenting. I was just about to purchase the Ninja Max, watched this video and was upset until I read your experience. Will go ahead with my purchase.
Thank you so much for doing this video! That was a lot of hard work!! Not just with the testing of the Air Fryers but the Editing too! Hats off to you! I have heard a lot of great things about the Cosori. That will definitely be my choice. Thanks again for the hard work on this one. Much appreciated!
I have never had a smell issue with my Vortex 6 qt. I especially like the forced preheat as if you don't preheat you will lose time while the fryer is getting up to temperature. The Vortex automatically is up to the heat you set before cooking. Just don't put the food in until the preheat is finished. Perhaps you could add more time, but seems the added time would vary depending on the temperature. I also appreciate how easy it is to clean. I previously had one with the separate basket which was like cleaning two baskets. Was a real pain for me as I do not love washing dishes. :) Also the little clear guard that slides over the red release button broke on one side and I was always fighting it to put it in place. I would think having the basket in a basket might restrict airflow too. It seemed that way on my previous one. Just something else to absorb heat in there. You are correct that the square basket is so much better than round. Every unit has their pluses and minuses, depends upon your personal preferences. Any body else experience the smell in the Vortex 6 qt? I use mine every day. Love the tips and recipes in your other videos. Everyone should subscribe and ring the bell. Keep the excellent videos coming. Thank you.
I started with a Power XL I bought from someone who didn't use it. I'm not usually the person who rushes out to buy the latest gadget, and I didn't think I would have any use for an air fryer. When people at work started talking about how much they enjoyed theirs, I decided I would give it a try, and that's when the lady at work offered to sell me her Power XL. I used it a couple of times and found I really liked the speed with which it cooked and the no/low oil cooking. So, after hours of research about the best air fryer, I settled on the Cosori 5.8 quart. Now I use it nearly every day. I cooked potatoes, zucchini, chicken drumsticks, a whole Cornish hen, cauliflower, and ham slices, and am eager to try more foods. I love this thing.
I have a insta vortex 5.7 love it. Never had chemical smell or taste. It holds plenty of food and seems to cook evenly. East to clean. I give mine a solid 5.
My first airfryer was a Philips. It was good, but the coating went off early and the basket was not easy to clean. Now I bought a Ninja Dual Max (had to reorganize our little kitchen because of it 😂) and used it the first time today. I just fell in love with the 2 baskets 😏
You’re a super mom. I cannot even imagine raising a beautiful big family and making all the awesome & informative videos in the same lifetime! I’m so inspired to cook in air fryer now! I purchased 6 Bella Pro Series 12.6 quart air fryers to give as gifts mainly for capacity size and price (retail $159 on sale for $69) and I like the oven style. I would appreciate your review amongst other large capacity fryers. Wishing you all the best always! And thank you for your RUclips channel
for the burnt/overcooked chips test, maybe each oven has a different time recommended for doing that amount or those kinds of chips? I understand the principle of your testing, but each fryer has a different basket capacity/tray/shape, so that would play into the timing, wouldn't it? not to mention, how much wattage each fryer is set to...
@@datboi__ I haven't seen the bag directions, but I'm not sure they have "air fryer" times/temp written on them yet (not in Australia as far as I know; don't know about elsewhere). I've had to kind of figure out from my air fryer booklet how long, what temp etc to cook chips at. It was trial and error.
@Picard + Discovery Fandom Chips is used in Australia, United Kingdom and the majority of the Commonwealth or former British colonies. Same thing as American term french fries.
I just discovered you tonight. Your pure enthusiasm earned my subscription. While I am fighting Cancer going on Day 344, I just did not have the energy I used to have to cook. I love to cook. So I had to find a better way to make use of the energy that I do have. Voila, the AIR FRYER. I absolutely LOVE this appliance. It's the best thing since they invented the microwave. I look forward to watching all of your videos.
I bought my air fryer on a whim while suffering from Covid brain! Regretted it until I found-or rather my husband feeling sorry for me-found your channel! No regrets now. Thank you 😊
I owned 2 Cosori Air Fryers (same model). Immediately had problems with the basket - it didn’t slide in easy. It leaked a lot of steam around bottom of basket. One day the tray popped out on its own, while cooking. It was scary. I complained and they sent me a replacement unit. I loved it - used for slightly over a year. After each useI had to tighten screws in the basket. Finally the other day after washing (always washed by hand), I noticed the plastic was disintegrated around two of the basket screws, at it just fell apart … I couldn’t tighten. I feel bad because I loved how it cooked. I will use my Chef Curtis Stone unit … no problems with that one. Hope you have better luck with your Cosori unit.
I think the Instant Vortex is the best of them all. I have had about 8 different air fryers at this point. IN the drawer style, I think that is the most consistent and fastest to use AF. While the Ninja Foodie XL oven is the best AF oven style. Can't say I ever noticed the loudness of beeping or a smell on any AF.
I bought the Ultrean 6 quart and love it. No smell but I put a slice of lemon in it and have not had any issues with it at all. Everything I have made is fantastic.
We actually changed our order after watching this video! There is an absolute stampede of people buying air fryers in the UK at the moment, as the energy crisis really starts to bite here, and lots of popular models are out of stock with long lead times. We had decided to just go for the Instant Pot Vortex as I couldn’t find the model of Cosori that we wanted anywhere. I then saw a bundle of reviews that mentioned the strong plastic smell….and I know I would hate that. Your review clinched it. We’ve ordered a fancier model of the Cosori instead of the 4.7l I had originally planned on….but it really feels as though it will be worth it.
Hi MsMamabo,. I'm in the UK too and want to say how right you are about the shortage of air fryer stocks. I fear with the huge increase in energy costs, this situation can only deteriorate. Have "found" a Cosori in stock at Amazon tonight and. am about to press the button. Have fund with your new toy - best wishes, Marion
@@Iamedsmum It’s awful isn’t it? Dark days! Good luck with your new baby as well! I hope that we both get good service and good value from our new machines. Happy cooking!
I bought one and the SMELL during the initial trial run was awful, stunk up the house and actually made my eyes burn and water. Like an electrical insulation fire, had to open doors and windows. Would have been helpful for instructions to have mentioned that it needs to be run in at least twice before using with food.
My Cosori arrives tomorrow. I did splurge for the accessories and as far as I can tell - all the pieces are functional... I'm BEYOND excited. I would LOVE more keto recipies!
We've had the power XL, a ninja and now we have the instant vortex oven. Can't help but think almost all the perceived shortcomings around interface could have been easily avoided if you'd read the manual or quick start guides. I do agree that the touch buttons on the vortex oven are a little fidgety. Of the three we've owned, we love the ninja for consistent results, and we've only had the vortex oven for a week, so we are still exploring it. Fries in the rotator basket are great, although yeah, the amount you can get in the cylinder is about the same as what you could get in your Cosori basket.
@L-UltraInstinct really awesomely. We've done rotisserie chicken, i do wings at least once a week in it, even did a small rotisserie beef roast that turned out amazing. I've got a small porchetta in the freezer that's gonna find its way onto the spit soon too. pizza is the best thing, though. leftover, straight outta the fridge, onto the trays and 6 minutes, and swap the trays top-bottom halfway through, better than fresh outta the pizzaman's oven.
Your rating system is a bit flawed, to say the least. First, the chemical smell is harmless and disappears after the first test run. Why would you evaluate a product based on a criteria that is temporary and has nothing to do with its performance? You clearly didn’t read the manuals. The door on the Instant Vortex is removable and pops right off when pulled upward at a 45 degree angle. This is a convenience and clean up is super easy. The beep sounds can be turned off if they bother you so much. And you didn’t evaluate the game changer rotisserie feature! None of the other units can cook perfectly crispy and moist rotisserie chicken or roasted veggies. There’s no comparison. I’m glad I bought my Instant Vortex before I watched your video! I definitely wouldn’t trade it for any of the others you reviewed.
We have the Ninja Max XL and had for a couple years now. We use it mostly for homemade fries, although your videos are opening my eyes to so many new things to try in our little air fryer powerhouse. The Ninja had a really wonderful garlic/parmesan hand cut fries that are really yummy in their quick guide booklet. The key to the Ninja is shaking the fries throughout the cooking and they do come out more evenly cooked. I do wish the basket was a little larger and mine, maybe because it is older, does have some loud beeping...so I agree with you that beeping can be annoying. Clean up is a breeze, the basket and bottom crisper plate bother can go in the dishwasher. Thanks for your review.
Hi Kathy, I have an air fryer oven similar to the Instant Vortex Pro which is an Oster Multifunctional 4-in-1 air fryer oven. You really have to use the rotisserie basket for the fries. It ensures even cooking, and you don't have to shake it since the basket rotates. And yes, it will allow you to cook more using that basket.
It's a pretty well-known fact you will get the plastic smell the first few times you run them but the smell is not toxic. Instant tells you to run it three times with no food
That smell is definitely toxic. It’s literally from left over manufacturing residues and off gassing from the heating element and materials. These products are nothing more than cheaply made Chinese cancer bombs.
I've had the Ninja for about a year and LOVE it. You need the hit the pause button when you take it out to check. I just usually shake my stuff about e very 5 minutes or so. It's also very easy to clean. I totally disagree with there not being enough space inside. I can cook 4 large chicken thighs in there and they come out perfect. I love how deep it is too. Also I do a 2 pound meatloaf. Maybe give it a second try? ;) I also have the Ninja oven / fryer and won't air fry in it again, it's nightmare to clean afterwards but LOVE it just as an oven.
My Ninja is awesome. I don’t think she gave a fair try. Did not pause it when opened to shake and did. Also did She even shake the fries. I’ve seen it rated number one on Amazon. Soo…
The first AF I bought was a Cosori which was broken when I got it. Returned it and got the updated power XL from Kohls and I have used it multiple times with no smell, no problems, door opens and closes with ease. I’m very pleased. Smelling them as soon as you unwrap the plastic from the box… I don’t know if that’s a game changer. Every new electric appliance I have ever bought smelled when I took it out of the box. Especially my microwave. Why you had such problems with opening and closing I have no idea but mine works like a dream. The fact that my first Cosori was broken right out of the box.. well.. they are not always gonna be perfect. Maybe the XL you got had a defect like my Cosori did. Either way. I’m glad you like your AF as much as I like mine.
I'm in Australia and use a Phillips XL air fryer and love it. It doesn't have a specific reheat or shake reminder, but there are pre-sets for various types of foods. I'd be interested to have you compare it with the Cosori you love. The brands you mentioned I don't think are available over here.
Opinions vary, of course, but I have the Instant Vortex 6 Quart Air Fryer and really like it. I've been using it almost daily (usually several times daily) for over a year. One change I recommend to the manufacturer is adding some rubber "bumpers" to the corners of the removable cooking rack. By default, there are four of those rubber bumpers -- one in the middle of each of the four sides of the cooking rack. When turning food halfway through cooking -- or, when simply removing and replacing the cooking basket from the air fryer -- the cooking rack rotates and the corners of the metal cooking rack make contact with the side of the metal cooking basket. Over time, this repeated contact will eventually wear a mark in the four corners of the basket and remove the non-stick coating. If they would have placed the four rubber bumpers at the corners, rather than in the middle of each of the four sides of the cooking tray, I don't believe this issue would happen. As for the forced pre-heating, it's only about three minutes and it depends on the cooking mode. If one selects "Reheat," rather than "Air Fry," there is no pre-heating. But, in the "Reheat" mode, the maximum selectable temperature is lower than the "Air Fry" mode. Even if selecting "Air Fry," the machine still starts running right away. The only difference is the countdown timer will not begin running until the pre-heat cycle is completed. Therefore, if a person wanted to start cooking right away in the "Air Fry" mode, simply reduce the cooking time by three minutes to allow for the pre-heat time. For me, it's a non-issue. And, really, my personal experience with cooking (as opposed to reheating) is that pre-heating the air fryer gives better results.
Cosori is my 2nd Airfryer! I love it. Period! I do disagree with you on the beep volume. Actually I start my cook then go watch TV or do other things that take me out of the kitchen. So I actually have a complaint about the shake beep and the final beep! I have completely missed the shake beep during a football game because it's not loud enough! Lol 😂 Still that cook was good. I have the WiFi version and although it sends notifications it doesn't cause my phone to make noise. I will contact them about this. I can ALWAYS communicate with the Casori team! They listen and are genuinely interested in your feedback! Cosori is my goto Airfryer! Thanks again Cathy for your time! Your recipes, creative approach to frying, baking, roasting... I'm sure this is fun for you but I see a lot of thought and preparation in these videos! Thank you! You Rock!
Thanks so much, Mark! Glad you are loving the loud beeps! Ha! I can see that it would be helpful if you're in a different room. Thanks for your kind words... sure appreciate it!
Thanks for such thorough reviews! I especially appreciate the difficulty to open and the noise levels! I hope you add a category in the future on ease of cleaning. Keep up the good work!
We have the 6 quart Instant Vortex. There is and was no smell with ours. I thought the mistake everyone was making, that was causing the smell, was leaving the 4 little rubber protectors on the tray that sits in the basket. I pulled those off(thinking they were packing protectors) before using ours and had no smells. Well, I just tried cooking up some chicken with the rubber protectors on and had no smell this way either, so now I don't know why some people complain of smell, we have had none. We are very satisfied with the product. It works flawlessly.
Does your Instant Vortex vibrate and is the fan noisy? The box mine came in had 2 dented corners and I am wondering if being dropped could have messed up the fan. (I have the Instant Vortex 6 quart with ClearCook.) I am trying to decide if I should return it but don't know if the noise is normal.
Hmm, I have, no longer use, a basket type airfryer, but traded up to a Power XL Pro airfryer oven. That was 5 years ago, and in that time we have used it almost daily, for airfying, baking, dehydrating fruit and herbs, roasting vegetables, baking casseroles, burgers, steaks, pork, chicken, fish. fries, and have never had any problems with smell as you talk about, except for the first few uses, and bare in mind, I have used this almost daily. It is the most used appliance in our kitchen. Also have used the rotisserie for roasts, and basket for frozen fries and potato rounds, and never had the problems you speak about. I think I would rather see reviews of appliances that the demonstrator has used for more than a few months, in fact, years, like mine. When this finally goes, I will definitely look to find another.
I believe you can turn off the beeps on the Instant models by holding temp and time buttons for 3 seconds. don't own one yet but have seen this is an option on several models. I have an obnoxiously loud microwave/convection oven that beeps loud enough to hear on the other side of the house with every button press so I have been paying attention to that sort of thing...
Just tossed my Power XL because of what you mentioned about the open edges. Quite the mess indeed! Cosori Pro II on the way. Great information here. Thanks!!
I absolutely love my instant vortex 6qt, it’s very easy to use. The food turns out perfect every time. I’ve had it for the last three years and have used it extensively every day since, sometimes more than once a day and it’s still going strong without any issues. Love that it does not have 2 baskets so it’s easy to clean by hand and dishwasher. I agree about the plate tipping over while getting the food out however I’m used to it now. The smell went away after a couple of uses. I can only praise this thing .. I’ve even gifted them to my family. I’ve had Philips airfryer before but love the instant. I’m sure the cosori is good as well ... I feel it’s more about learning your tool. By the way the preheat option is forced because you have to preheat to get good results and you can always do it ahead before putting your food in. French fries are perfect even home made ones.
I just bought mine in December and we have cooked with it every day since! Love it!!! We have made roasts, chicken, bacon, fries, hamburgers....the list is endless!!
I just bought one and I am having issues with the stinkiness I got the Airfryer Vortex yesterday and ran it today with the diluted vinegar I ran out of lemons 😅 I can still smell some stinkiness
It looks like it might be deeper than 3 1/2 inches as the opening allows the drawer front as well. Can you get a chicken in your vortex pro? That’s something I would like to be able to do in whichever model I end up buying
@@rearamos392 double check that all of the cardboard is out. A reviewer nearly missed some cardboard between the basket and machine. Other people complained of smell, cleaned the element and found a layer of oil/grease. After checking/cleaning most folks have no smell.
Does your Instant Vortex vibrate and is the fan noisy? The box mine came in had 2 dented corners and I am wondering if being dropped could have messed up the fan. (I have the Instant Vortex with ClearCook)
Thank you so much for helping me decide which air fryer to get. We eat mostly vegetarian so looking forward to seeing your veggie video. Your personality makes your videos so easy to watch. Thanks again.
Cathy, thank you for the videos! Watching your kids taste test things cracks me up. 🤣 And side by side review are one of my favorites things on RUclips.
I have the Instant Vortex 6qt and love it. No odor, and like someone else said, skip preheat by using reheat button. No matter what, I set temp and time myself, so other than skipping forced preheat, use any function-air fry, bake, whatever. Super easy to clean and the interior size is great. I would give this a much higher score. Beeps are loud but not a big deal to me. It’s my first air fryer, and it totally sold me. I love your channel. Just felt kinda sad my guy got such a low score😢
I totally agree. I am new to air frying and have the Instant Vortex 6-1 and I'm really pleased with it. There was a smell in the first pre-use but after that nothing. The size is great and it's incredibly easy to clean. Love it!

I live alone and was given a small Chefman air fryer for my birthday. Will only do small batches, which is fine for just me. Easy to use, works well, easy to clean. I'm loving it so far1
I have the Instant vortex fryer. I had read that most people take off the rubber like things on the removable grill before using because that made it smell. I did and I never experienced any bad smells from it. I love my air fryer. Use it several days a week. Since the first couple of days I have only cooked regular, not frozen convenience foods. I enjoy your videos very much. BTW, I have done a whole chicken in mine just make sure your chicken doesn't touch the heating coil in the top of the unit. I usually roast cornish game hens rather than a whole chicken.
Thank you Karla! Question about removing the tray... do you have anything else in there to lift the food off the bottom of the pan to get the full effect of air circulation? Or do you just flip/rotate and the food turns out fine?
@@empoweredcooks the tray does have a bit of circulation under it without the small rubber bumpers. I do start my poultry skin side down (breast side for whole birds) for the first half of the cooking time and then flip. I never use additional oils on any meats. The game hens are divine in the air fryer. Crispy outside and juicy inside. Fantastic.
I have the Instant Vortex as well. I love it. It does the job, good space for my large family. I have a sensitive nose and have never noticed a smell. My only dislike is the tray that falls out. In the beginning, I admit it got yelled at a lot. Lol. I have had it over a year and never had a problem.
Would love to see you test some of the smaller models that are geared more towards households with only 1-2 people. I know that def does not fit your household but it would be nice to see the smaller ones tested by someone with experience using multiple air fryers.
It’s just my husband and I and I’m so glad I went ahead and got the Cosori 5.8 qt. It’s all about surface area. We can do a layer of veggies and cooks so evenly. Also 4 chicken thighs. It doesn’t take up much more room on the counter and I love the size, even for 2 of us. Most things cook better in one flat layer.
There's only me and my husband in our family but I still bought the bigger one. I can cook a whole chicken in it. I've done chicken coujons and chips in it in one go. I think it's better getting the bigger models
Love your videos!! So so glad I found your channel and the Cosori brand (because of you)! I can't wait to get my new one being delivered tomorrow! Thank you for taking the time and $$$ to show us such great reviews! Your videos and recipes are so fun and yummy!! :)
I have the instant vortex. The instructions say run it at 400 for like 15 mins 2X and it will get rid of the smell. It definitely worked for me. I use it every day and I love it. Also the fries burnt because they don’t need 15 mins lol. That’s a really long time for fries.
I understand the want to just open it up and use it. But I don’t think that was a fair test. If you would have done the “before you use” instructions that smell would be gone. And the reason you don’t need 15 mins to cook your fries is because of preheat. Preheat your air fryer Add your fries 400 for 8 mins Perfect fries

(I have the Instant Vortex 6 quart with ClearCook.) I am trying to decide if I should return it but don't know if the noise is normal. And I agree that 15 is too long for fries! (Though I think Cathy likes her fries darker than I do. Even when she said they were perfect they looked too done for me.)
I LOVED this video. I've seen your later stuff and your methods have progressed a lot, but as an earlier video it was so charming. It was like watching an early video from the Vacuum Wars channel all those years ago.
I have a Ninja Foodi and the Egg-shaped Ninja air fryer, I love both of them. I briefly had a Phillips Egg-shaped air fryer, after a few days of use, the basket coating peeled, got it replaced under warranty and that peeled too. You can see the superior quality of the basket on the Ninja and other high-end brands.
Thank you for that video. Comparing them like this is really good indeed and much better than just reading about them and looking at the feedback stars. I have now just bought the Cosori one as well from Amazon.
I recently bought Cosori 3.5 - Litre from Amazon, on a whim! Haven't used it yet, but will soon, after watching many more of Cathy's great informative video's!
I have a power XL, and I just love it, mine also has a removable basket but it’s a little older so I’m not sure if they make them like that anymore. My basket handle has broken a little bit so I am hoping to find a replacement. But besides that I just love everything about it
The XL does have a start button. It’s the big middle one. I think only the LO is patient enough for the machine to start by itself. LOL The company suggests running the machine first to burn off the smell.
I Have the instant vortex 6 quart basket air fryer you tested, and yes the smell took a good five 10 minute sessions running it empty to get that smell to disappear, but it finally did LOL and I love it❤️It’s my first air fryer so I don’t mind the preheat but I can understand why if you don’t use that on your other air fryer you wouldn’t like it on a new air fryer. But the size has been great and I did cook a 4 1/2 pound chicken just fine in it this week with your whole chicken recipe. DELICIOUS!! Crispy outside, juicy inside. 😄thanks for all your help!!
THanks Sherrie! That is so good to know that you could cook a chicken in it with no problem! I'm giving all these air fryers away to local people, so I am glad to know that the smell will disappear. I will let the person I give it to know. :)
I also have the Instant Vortex and it is my first air fryer. The smell for me is completely gone now and all I smell.is the food cooking. It serves me and my family needs and I love it.
@@empoweredcooks Read the manual. I think some of your critics could have been avoided if you had read the manual. On the Vortex 6 the beeps can be disabled if you touch the TEMP & TIME together for 5 seconds. Of course for any ERROR condition there will still be an audible beep. For each of the categories of cooking (ie. Air Fry, Roast, Bake ....) you can easily change the default temperature or time by just dialing in the parameters you prefer and then pressing the round dial and you've now changed the default setting. You can return any of them to their factory default by just holding the category button (Air Fry for example) for a few seconds and the original default is back. These features and others are on the page heading SETTINGS. I was impressed by the Cosori feature to seperate or remove the basket. That seems it would less stress and wear on the handle mechanism.
My first air fryer was the power xl of which I do not recommend, non stick coating flake off very quickly. I now own the cosori and I love it had it for over a year and use it everyday. The square basket is nice and it's removable. Preheating is essential for frozen fries and so forth but not necessary for longer cook times like chicken wings.
A few months ago I got my first air fryer. I am glad it was a cosori since I am seeing that it is quite a good brand. I got the 5.8 quart smart version since it would connect to Alexa which I need since I am blind. I have been nothing but happy with it so far
I bought my first Cosori in 2019 from Amazon. I bought a 2nd one a year later. Last night, the handle broke off in my hand on the 2019 model when I went to open it to add french fries. It's toast, no pun intended:) Nevertheless, I'll replace it with another Cosori. I've had 3 other brands and they didn't do as well as Cosori.
Bought the Sur la Table recently which is similar to the Vortex Plus. My door opens sideways which is a bonus. Plus fries can be put in a basket on the rotisserie so no shaking needed.
I've been looking to upgrade my tiny little Farberware air fryer to something better and have been leaning toward a Cosori. But since stumbling across your channel I'm ready to take the plunge. The comparisons helped so much and your other videos are great too. Thanks for the tips and recipes and I'm blaming you if I gain weight. 😀
Hi love your show i just bought a chefman frenchdoor air fryer no smell nice basket easy clean up please try that one next time. I'm a newbie to airfrys by the way
Wow, Cathy, I feel I must speak up in defense of the Ninja Max XL. We love ours, though you have also sold us on many of the Cosori features. I did some research before buying and chose the Ninja Max XL primarily because of the ceramic coating rather than Teflon, which was a common complaint in other brands’ reviews. Also there are only two of us but I would have gotten the smaller model except for the higher max temp on the XL model. We never go 15 minutes on frozen fries, especially the thickness you used. 8 to 10 max. And, maybe we’re just used to shaking two or three times while cooking (we tend to cook by eye and thermometer) but haven’t thus experienced the uneven cooking you showed. Almost a year in and no flaking or chipping on the coating and no problems, though my biggest gripe is having to scroll down the times from 20 rather than keying in. If you still have them, I encourage you to give the Max XL another go, and just shake two or three times. BTW the high basket for us means we can cook skin-on chicken and it won’t splatter on the heating element. We are not a big family though, just a couple with no kids. Love your channel!
Same here. I love the Ninja! Perhaps because it sells so well. The others that don’t sell so well need to be propped up! And that’s what you have done here. The best thing anyone can do, is their own Research!
My Power XL opens and closes perfectly. Pull straight out and push in with a soft click. Mine also did not have a chemical smell. I purchased at Kohl's 3 years ago.
Mine also has a removable inner basket. Clean up is easy and it cooks evenly. Drawbacks are the noise of the fan, noisy beeps and NO shaker button. I set a timer for that purpose. Again, I have an older model. I would not like the newer one you showed. I really like the shake reminder of your model and the ability to customize preset buttons.
Hi Cathy, Let me begin by saying I just found your channel and I’m new to air fryers. 🤣🤣🤣. I just bought the 12 qt Power XL Pro (oven), model GLA 1005. One of the reasons I purchased it was for the rotisserie feature. For starters, as I unboxed the item I see there are 2 accessories missing (the skewer accessories). Upon reviewing the owners manual AND the product website the bar code took me to. I looked up the specific item and the website and owners manual say those accessories “come with” the product. I call customer service and was informed that those particular accessories do not come with the product. I inform the customer service rep that their website and the owners manual indicates this model “comes with” those accessories. The rep proceeds to tell me “oh, we’ll, if the manual says it “comes with” the product you need to go back to the store you purchased it. Needless to say, that response did not sit well with me. That Cosori is looking like a contender. My mistake was buying my air fryer BEFORE watching your video 🤣🤣. I’m loving your videos!!!! Thank you.
Hi Cathy : Love All your Videos !...It's Nice to find ONE person that knows all about Air Fryers instead of searching all over RUclips...I bought the Cosori 5.8 Qt. model and LOVE IT !....I did a Pre-Heat and notice a Slight Plastic smell , but hardly at all....I did the 2 Pre-Heats like the manual said and it was ALL GONE....I cooked some Chicken Wings today and they came out GREAT !...I set the timer for 20 min. at 380* and stopped it at 10 min. to turn them over....I checked the Internal Temp. , and it was already reading 170-180* ...So I flipped them over for 2 more min. ,and they came out Awesome !!...Should they be at 170* in 10 minutes ??.....Thanks !....TURKEY WINGS Are Next !!...
I appreciate your thoroughness in testing these. Next time, could you test smaller fryers? We’re looking for something smaller to take in our RV. Thanks for all you do!
Hi Laura - Mari is spot on about the smaller Cosori. My daughter first got a small Dash air fryer to take to college, and it worked, but took a lot longer. So I would say go with the smaller 3.7 qt Cosori. amzn.to/3x5aYtc
So I had a Instant air fryer before I had a Cosori. I agree with EVERYTHING you said about them. It was a good place for me to start airfrying, but the Cosori was the better long term choice for me. (I bought the Cosori because I started watching your channel).
@@empoweredcooks I have the Ninja DZ201 Foodi 8 Quart 6-in-1 DualZone 2-Basket Air Fryer and it had a smell. The smell lingered into the first thing I cooked (homemade fries). Haven't used it since washing the trays, and yeah probably should of done that beforehand. I'm thinking about giving this one to a family member who could use the dual baskets more than I. Im thinking about getting a Cosori after your review. BTW you forgot the "I" in Cosori in your description link 😀
i just never saw anyone do a more thorough and astute analysis ever online for a product review: you are just top of the top (as carrie says in SATC) thanks so much/ i will definitely buy the cosori
I really like how you did the testing; it was so thorough. I haven't bought an air fryer yet, but am looking at the Cosori 5qt. I would love to know your thoughts on it.
Thanks for the reviews. Costco has a nice Gourmia air fryer that has nice options on preheating and turnover beep that you might want to try out. I like to hear the beep from the other room, so I am glad when it is loud. If anything, it isn't loud or long enough! Also, it is quite normal for the air fryers to give off fumes the first few times you use them. Just heat it up for a while without food in it until it goes away.
@@Dreamcatchergal On the bottom left there is a preheat button that toggles preheat off and on. It is on by default for some settings, but you can switch it off. Same with the turn over sound button on right bottom.
I was given a Gourmia air fryer last summer and was sceptical because I had never heard of this brand because I don’t have a COSTCO membership, but I love it soooo much. I turn off the pre heat and turn on the turn reminder and use it for so many fresh and frozen foods. I never cook fries for 15 minutes. 9 minutes at 400F. is just right for me.
(Harry here) I got three Air Fryers here and another one on the way. To tell you the truth I like the oldest one we have. It looks like a big red egg but it outcooks the others. Great Video. We will have to see when the new one gets here. I think its a combo unit.
Thank you so much for the reviews, they were fantastic and I’m extremely grateful. Although I thought your reviews were very bias and leaning to your preferred brand. After reading other reviews I bought the instant brand and followed their pre use instructions to the latter, after which there was no plastic smell. I’m thrilled with my new air fryer and the delights are endless. Who knew one could boil an egg in an air fryer or bake lemon drizzle cake! Your channel is awesome. Thank you 🏴 ❤️
I have the Instant Vortex 10 and love it. The thing is, you have to remember that it's not just an air fryer and I bought it for that reason- we wanted the two-appliances-in-one. To compare it to just an air fryer is kind of unfair. Also, we've never had the smell at all and everything I've made has turned out fine. I don't mind using oven gloves though I usually use tongs and put the racks into a pan when I pull it out.
Does your Instant Vortex vibrate and is the fan noisy? The box mine came in had 2 dented corners and I am wondering if being dropped could have messed up the fan.
Thanks for the video! After 3 videos this and another from you are the first useful ones I've found. Definitely getting the corsari. Now just to decide between the smart one or not.
I bought a Ninja Dual and. I love it! The Ninja doesn’t need to be preheated and when I first pulled it out, it did have a factory smell. I ran it empty for 20-15 minutes and the smell cleared up. I love that I can airfry 2 foods at the same time! I also love the fact that I can do more than just airfry with the Ninja. And clean up is a breeze! I just laughed at your food test with the Ninja, if you had read the instructions for it, it does tell you that you have adjust time and temp when doing food in the air fryer. Even their manual gives general guidelines. I’ve never had a factory taste in my food.
I’ve been watching your videos over this last 1-1/2 years or so as I am really interested in getting a good air fryer. You pretty much have me convinced to get a Cosori and this video definitely has made my choice even better. There are tons of these other models for sale in so many stores - and I do have to order the Cosori, but I’m a champ at that by now! So after the first of the year when everything has settled down after the holidays I will definitely purchase the Cosori. I love your videos as they are for real, people cooking real food, not fussy stuff. I don’t do fussy!!!!! Thanks.
@@empoweredcooks Hello:) Can you please recommend which model of Cosori should I buy? I am not sure, since your review about the Air Fryers was months ago, so was wondering if there are newer models now.
@Lovely I did a more recent air fryer review last month in this video ruclips.net/video/zns23yaQ9hE/видео.html. But, of the Cosori air fryers, I love the CP358 model. I will be reviewing the Dual Blaze air fryer model shortly, so stay tuned for that!
Thanks for the review. I have the Cuisinart oven type air fryer and you’re right. It’s a bear to clean. However, it’s works really well and is versatile so I will use it until it dies. Then I’ll get the Cosori.
Thank you for the helpful video, One criticism has to do with your cleaning and how much the smell affected the scores: In the case of the vortex, for example, they require you to do an 18min empty run at 400, which gets rid of most of the plastic smell. 5 min with lemon water was not enough.
Of course Cosori customer service showed up! I'm glad you thought to reach out to them!
WOW... Good to know about the way Cosori took care of you. Mine is still going strong after about 7 monhs!
Glad to hear! Good customer service is priceless. Definitely makes purchasing worth it
I have heard amazing things about their customer service!
Could you test a Gormia please?
I almost bought the Instant Pro but it was out of stock at my local store, so I went home and bought the Cosori from Amazon and I'm SO glad I did. One tip for the Cosori is you can buy a couple more of the removable baskets, that way if you're doing different items, you can have a basket ready to go in the air fryer without having to stop and wash the basket that just came out. I also recommend putting a parchment sheet on the bottom of the basket if you're using any metal accessories to protect the non-stick coating, or you can just use silicone accessories and not have to worry about scratching the coating off the basket.
That is a great tip!

Boy, was this ever enlightening. It really confirms my choice of the Cosori (which I bought on your recommendation, BTW!).
Yay!
Look out for recalled models

Thanks John!!
Being forced to pre-heat and also having to wait for 8 minutes once you see END is a product design disaster
I have one of those in order based on the ATK review.
Does it have a shake reminder or do you just keep a close eye on it? Thanks for letting us know about the pause button!!!!
Thank you.
Love mine for all the reasons you mentioned, and never any smell!
I have the same one, but I don't have the smell in mine. I'm happy with my air fryer
Yay! That is so awesome - thank you for sharing your experience!
I have a insta vortex 5.7 love it. Never had chemical smell or taste. It holds plenty of food and seems to cook evenly. East to clean. I give mine a solid 5.
Very nice! I am glad it is working great for you!
You are sweet Rochelle. Sounds like you got a great deal on your air fryers! I will list it down as one to include in my next review!
for the burnt/overcooked chips test, maybe each oven has a different time recommended for doing that amount or those kinds of chips? I understand the principle of your testing, but each fryer has a different basket capacity/tray/shape, so that would play into the timing, wouldn't it? not to mention, how much wattage each fryer is set to...
There's only one temp/time on the bag though but I see your point
@@datboi__ I haven't seen the bag directions, but I'm not sure they have "air fryer" times/temp written on them yet (not in Australia as far as I know; don't know about elsewhere). I've had to kind of figure out from my air fryer booklet how long, what temp etc to cook chips at. It was trial and error.

Sending you my prayers! Thank you for the sub. I really hope the air fryer will help you find joy in cooking again :) 💖
Thank you for sharing your experience! I'm glad you are loving your air fryers!
We bought the Vortex 3 weeks ago and the smell hasn’t gone away. We use it nearly every day. Is there anything we can do to mitigate this?
Any trouble cleaning the Ninja Foodi fryer? Thanks
I had the power XL. It lasted about 5 years being used 1 to 2 times a DAY! I used to live in Barracks.....It worked great for me.
Hi from the UK. Great video thanks, very helpfull. Also love how you still use inches in the States, never change.
Hi, thanks for watching! I'm glad it was helpful. And yup, we sure do!
SUPER informative video ❤️! Thanks so much for sharing Cathy 🤗!
You said moist. 😃
What quantity does yours hold should it matter. I need a larger one for family of 4 to cook in reasonable tine.

Thanks for sharing your review, Donna! I'm glad to hear what is working for you!
Oh that's good to know! Thanks for the tip!
It's a pretty well-known fact you will get the plastic smell the first few times you run them but the smell is not toxic. Instant tells you to run it three times with no food
That smell could be toxic to pet birds.

Oh that's great!! I'm so glad it works so well for you!! Haha I always do appreciate an easy clean!
I have the Dash compact air fryer, small, for one person. Never noticed a smell. Love it.
My daughter had the Dash air fryer for a bit and like it because it was perfect for one person.
Man I can't believe you typed all this up as if you were writing to the company
@@letusdebatenow Yeah, I sometimes go a bit overboard. 🙂
Thank you!

You are welcome, thanks for watching!
Thanks for this. I'm wondering which air fryer to buy. This helped a lot and showed what to look out for.
Manual says to leave on? Has anyone else comfirmed this
I love mine and no smell! I love that it doesn't have two full baskets to wash, too. Seems easier to clean.
THANK YOU for showing basket measurements!!!
I would have like to see the scores for cleaning all of these. It's normally the thing my wife cares about most is how easy is it to clean.
Love our Cosori it turned out better than we had expected use it daily. LOVE IT
I have the Instant Vortex 6qt and love it.
Same. I've had no issues with mine
I totally agree. I am new to air frying and have the Instant Vortex 6-1 and I'm really pleased with it. There was a smell in the first pre-use but after that nothing. The size is great and it's incredibly easy to clean. Love it!
Fantastic.
@@karlalong4541 OH I see... so just the rubber parts you removed, not the tray itself. Got it!
@@empoweredcooks yes that's right.
I have the Instant Vortex as well. I love it. It does the job, good space for my large family. I have a sensitive nose and have never noticed a smell. My only dislike is the tray that falls out. In the beginning, I admit it got yelled at a lot. Lol. I have had it over a year and never had a problem.
We bought the Cosori 5.8 qt Monday and we love it!
Would love to see you test some of the smaller models that are geared more towards households with only 1-2 people. I know that def does not fit your household but it would be nice to see the smaller ones tested by someone with experience using multiple air fryers.
Just buy the 3.5 litre Cosori and be done with it, not all manufacturers do smaller versions either.
@@anitas5817 do you know if Cosori makes a bigger one than the 5.8? We're a family of 5..or do you think the 5.8 would still work for us..
Thanks!
There's only me and my husband in our family but I still bought the bigger one. I can cook a whole chicken in it. I've done chicken coujons and chips in it in one go. I think it's better getting the bigger models
What will hold a lot, will hold a little. Get the Cosori.
Thank you for the thorough review. I just ordered my Cosori.
Love your videos!! So so glad I found your channel and the Cosori brand (because of you)!
I can't wait to get my new one being delivered tomorrow! Thank you for taking the time and $$$ to show us such great reviews! Your videos and recipes are so fun and yummy!! :)
Thank you for this, I have just ordered a cosori!
I have the instant vortex. The instructions say run it at 400 for like 15 mins 2X and it will get rid of the smell. It definitely worked for me. I use it every day and I love it.
Also the fries burnt because they don’t need 15 mins lol. That’s a really long time for fries.
I agree with you on everything. I have one to. Love it. Don't think cosori could be any better.
I understand the want to just open it up and use it. But I don’t think that was a fair test. If you would have done the “before you use” instructions that smell would be gone. And the reason you don’t need 15 mins to cook your fries is because of preheat.
Preheat your air fryer
Add your fries
400 for 8 mins
Perfect fries
Great tip, TammTamz! Thanks for sharing!
And I agree that 15 is too long for fries! (Though I think Cathy likes her fries darker than I do. Even when she said they were perfect they looked too done for me.)
@@taregirl9945 I have not have those issues with mine. We use ours quite frequently. If yours is still returnable, I would definitely suggest that.
Glad to hear you are enjoying your Ninjas! I know people LOVE their foodi's. :) I'm not sure which model is the egg shaped ninja though?
@analogX64 I have the Ninja too and love it, especially because it has a ceramic basket and plate.
But besides that I just love everything about it
I also have a power xl love it. Haven't used the basket much because I can do everything on the shelves.
Thanks for sharing Melissa and Pat! I gave the PowerXL away to a big family. So even though it's not my favorite, I hope they love it. :)
The XL does have a start button. It’s the big middle one. I think only the LO is patient enough for the machine to start by itself. LOL The company suggests running the machine first to burn off the smell.
@@susansmith5205 thank you!
You should get the new power xl air fryer/steamer it truly is amazing!
Great review! Thanks for the details
@@empoweredcooks you can turn the preheat and the beep off on the vortex
@@caidelander2561 wow! How do you do that?
Omg I just got my cosori and I love it thanks for the info
My first air fryer was the power xl of which I do not recommend, non stick coating flake off very quickly. I now own the cosori and I love it had it for over a year and use it everyday. The square basket is nice and it's removable. Preheating is essential for frozen fries and so forth but not necessary for longer cook times like chicken wings.
Thanks for sharing your experience, Richard!
I am a cancer patient in recovery would love to have a air fryer looks a lot easier than a regular oven. Love your videos. Happy Holidays
A few months ago I got my first air fryer. I am glad it was a cosori since I am seeing that it is quite a good brand. I got the 5.8 quart smart version since it would connect to Alexa which I need since I am blind. I have been nothing but happy with it so far
That is so great to hear, Marakye!
I watched an infomercial this morning regarding the PowerXL Air Fryer Grill. I'm tempted to buy it.
I'm a newbie to airfrys by the way
Hi Marcia! I will add that to my list of potential ones to test!
Thank you for sharing that! I am so glad you are loving yours! I did love many things about it!
Are they noisy?
Same here. I love the Ninja! Perhaps because it sells so well. The others that don’t sell so well need to be propped up!
And that’s what you have done here.
The best thing anyone can do, is their own Research!
The power xl was perfect but it just stopped working
For the fries, you had way more in the basket of Ninja compared to the others. May have been a smaller capacity.
Thank you.
Oh goodness! That is sad to hear for sure! I can say that Cosori does have excellent customer service! Glad to have you here!

Peggy B, I too bought this air fryer. I can't seem to make it stop preheating. Do you know how to make this feature stop?
@@Dreamcatchergal On the bottom left there is a preheat button that toggles preheat off and on. It is on by default for some settings, but you can switch it off. Same with the turn over sound button on right bottom.
Thanks for sharing your review, Peggy! I've had a few others mention they appreciate loud beeps too! :)
I bought the same Gourmia air fryer from Costco. I'll use it for the first time this coming weekend!
(Harry here) I got three Air Fryers here and another one on the way. To tell you the truth I like the oldest one we have. It looks like a big red egg but it outcooks the others. Great Video. We will have to see when the new one gets here. I think its a combo unit.
Thanks for sharing, Harry. Do you know the brand of your oldest air fryer?
Thank you so much for the reviews, they were fantastic and I’m extremely grateful. Although I thought your reviews were very bias and leaning to your preferred brand. After reading other reviews I bought the instant brand and followed their pre use instructions to the latter, after which there was no plastic smell. I’m thrilled with my new air fryer and the delights are endless. Who knew one could boil an egg in an air fryer or bake lemon drizzle cake! Your channel is awesome. Thank you 🏴 ❤️

I have the instant pot vortex and I love mine.
That is a good thought!! I'm glad it is working so well for you, and thank you for sharing!
@@empoweredcooks also, gently press the buttons with a flat thumb or finger and they'll work fine.

Thank you so much, been contemplating buying an air fryer and these reviews have helped so much!

Thank you for the helpful video,
One criticism has to do with your cleaning and how much the smell affected the scores:
In the case of the vortex, for example, they require you to do an 18min empty run at 400, which gets rid of most of the plastic smell. 5 min with lemon water was not enough.
Great video - very helpful. Thank you for posting.
