Thank you Andrea, that is the clearest demonstration of a concept I have ever seen! I have wondered why my attempts at abstracts seem so flat and boring when I have really tried to vary things - now I see that my idea of varying things was rather limited, flat and boring! I console myself by thinking that, at 72 it's been a while since my school art lessons, lol. This will make such an enjoyable difference to my art adventures, thank you so much. From Eileen in Scotland ☺

Hi Andrea. I love the outcome of the varied piece. However, I'm attracted to abstracts with only shapes overlapping in harmonious colors which are visually interesting. In those, strangely "less is more" applies. While other works are too busy for me. Can you explain why you don't include Ultramarine Blue in your must have colors? Your videos are so helpful as I never know how to begin an abstract piece.

That's a good question. I would put Ultramarine in "Highly suggested". It's not in "must have" because I feel you can make a decent ultramarine with Phthalo and a bit of violet, but it's not the same exact color. I'm also kind of a purist when it comes to color, so to me the primaries and secondaries are must haves, and then there are so many other colors you can make.

I like all the variations…except scribbling. I just don’t get it. So, I’m glad there are plenty of other ways of varying.😊
