Gotta hand it to the original coders of The Bard's Tale (PS2)
If you smash all the barrels in first town, you'll eventually meet a NPC who was the one to make the barrels in the first place, so he asks you to "Drum up trade" by destroying as many as you can find !
Only game I know of where breaking barrels actually gained you a quest lol

I love The Bard's Tale. It's also available to do in the remaster The Bard's Tale: Remastered and Resnarkled which you can play on PS4 and PS5.

If I remember well, you could also summon rats in front of a tavern, so that you could offer the tavern owner to get rid of it for them.
I know one of the game opened with that as a cutscene, but the fact that you could do it again in another town, and it still worked was a great surprise.

After enough time with souls games you gain 2 new lines of thinking with loot. 1 hit the chest it could be a mimic, 2 check every corner with the camera when walking into any room that looks too empty.

I've always just looked at the chain. If you can't see the chain clearly, wait and see if it's breathing. Tho with enough playthroughs you just remember which is a mimic and which isn't, unfortunately. It would be fun if NG+ and beyond mixed them up

Even the VR version of RE4 accounts for the tower. It doesn't collapse on you, but if you spend more than about 10-15 seconds up there, they start lobbing dynamite up there with you. If you're lucky, standing in an opposite corner might save you a couple times, but one WILL eventually wipe you out if you try to stay. Just not a viable strategy.
P.S.: If you haven't played the VR version, it's fantastic. Honestly recommend it easily as much as I recommend the remake. They nailed it in so many ways.

Huh? When does this happen? It’s been awhile since I played it…but from what I remember the only time you’re moving/interacting with Heimdall is during cut scenes and when you meet/walk with him to Odin’s spot…before he makes you fight…and I don’t remember there being anything you can loot since it’s basically a cutscene…all you can do is walk with him. So yeah, when do you even get the opportunity to loot stuff with him nearby??

Definitely the floor falling out on LOP is a good one, I'm on ng+ and have fallen for the same damn trick now twice! In Borderlands 3, the first time you meet Tannis, she takes the vault key into her office/research shack thing to charge it with some kind of machine she's got(actually she's just getting inside to charge it so you won't find out she's got siren powers). Anyway, she tells you that while she's doing that, you stay outside and "loot anything not nailed down". Which, like. It's a Borderlands game. You're doing that anyway.

The baiting with items thing is an oldskool tradition. You'd see a 1-up on a ledge or something and think you could make it with a crazy good jump but nope. It was a red herring.
I'll also remember the stealth sewers in Chrono Trigger, where you see a save point but the chime that plays when you walk on the save point alerts enemies. It got me so good I laughed till I stopped.

Tales of Destiny has something like this too. If you manage to beat Leon the first time you encounter him, the game gives you an early ending. This is mainly meant for a NG+ run, but you can do it on the first run of the game using cheats (or you know, being good at the game.)

If it's day, night, raining, snowing, different locations, different clothes, no clothes, certain fusions you have equipped. And it goes beyond dialogue, too. "There goes our E for Everyone rating!" Okay, that was funny. I've been avoiding High on Life because of the justin roiland crimes and because idk if I could listen to him for hours on end, but that line was genuinely hilarious, really took me by surprise.

Arkngthamz, you need to understand one thing. Back in those times vowels were in short supply and the extra vowels got looted from its name. It's pretty sad really, such a long name with only two As. That time was called 'The Great Vowel Movement'

So when I mod Skyrim, one of the Mods I download is Pouches and backpacks, and then I enchant all of them plus rings with added cary weight enchantments... Because I need to be carrying around with me many times my unaugmented weight allowance...
As for the Exploits and money exploits, Bethesda just patched out getting to the vendor chests under the map... including the vendor chest in the mud puddle.

A mod I use in Skyrim includes the first item I get and put on: a cheatcarryweight ring that boosts my carry ability into the thousands. Because I am going to pick up whatever the fudge I want, especially all the smithing materials which I buy out every time I hit town. My love of collecting ore to make into armor is not going to stop me from moving. 😅

Dark Souls. The chest in Firelink Shrine will have important items spawn in it cause the devs knew we'd throw shit away.

Well, I've missed rare items because I skipped out on picking them up. Now I've decided to rectify it. It helps me check out, mentally, on an area when I get through it to know it's fully explored.

10:00 I've been playing Final Fantasy XV the past week, and they do this in a couple of dungeons. Sure, most shiny item spots also _just so happen_ to be in rooms where a bunch of enemies spawn before you can grab the loot, but I mean actual tricks.
In three different areas, the blue shinies are in rooms that almost immediately collapse upon entering, with the ceiling dealing a fair amount of damage if you don't dodge back in time. You can't get the item, by the way-it's completely crushed/hidden by the ceiling's rubble. And then there are the bridges that collapse, forever preventing you from grabbing an item. It makes me wonder what items they put in these unobtainable spots. Was it some basic vendor trash, just to get the blue dot on the field, or did they jokingly put in high value loot just to further troll anyone who digs into the code?

Ah man, you already mentioned Max Payne 2 but not the best Moment for this video. When you're close to the end of the game, you are having a hard time in the mansion with lots of enemies behind every door and painkillers being scarce. So you jump into every room guns blazing. But there is one room filled with mannequins with guns in their hands but having gas tanks as their heads.
I really fell for that by diving into the room and blasting my shotgun at the next best guy near the door and boom.

That was my first WTF LOL moment while playing High on Life. The game backtracked, though, and made that kid alien's mom say he was actually 30 something years old but still, it was satisfying to shoot him after he was really being annoying by pushing you while you shoot at some enemies.

It's funny because in the Witcher 3 I never did the exploits that they talked about but I did a completely different one. If you don't take everything from a monster nest, it doesn't register as completed... So you take everything except for something that doesn't cost very much and then you just come back to it, Great for collecting runes and money

about #1, in Fallout 3 (or NV, I don't remember), there's a quest inside some old bunker with a secret room stashed with lots of gold bars and you must escape the bunker before it explodes, but gold bars are heavy, so basically Bethesda test you to see what you choose life or wealthy.
